I already pitched to them, but likely not hard enough. Give it a try! Never know!

I've got nearly all of my MR names up for renewal in the next month. Really annoying as in just another month we might see if the WMR headsets are having any effect at all on search interest for 'MR'.

Well some tough decisions are coming !
Just a thought for a approach...
Take about a quarter to half of them from the bottom up and get some low BIN pricing on them as a attempt to unload them while the interest is there for a flip. Would be better than a drop.
Any fair reported sale will create a flurry of lookers even if it is just a investor speculative sale.
But it does require something to happen to spike the interest.

I don't think we will have a handle on user search till march/april.

Just a case of to high of expectations of the early market.
It's a high end product for a high end market that does not fully exist yet.
But, I think they may re-open this in a year or two.

Oculus/Facebook is once again making it difficult to watch unless you put some of their software on your device. Which will never happen on 'my smartphones'.

There is a live feed(bottom of page) that you have to refresh the page to view at the time of the event.
I expect the Santa Cruz to be a wireless device and WMR compatible but not as a RIFT titled device.
Saving that that for next year.

But if anyone finds a OC4 youtube live feed from a tech news site, please post it.

I'm sure this device will make some headway. But I 'think' it is really a smartphone powered chipset (being a Qualcomm Snapdragon) so I wouldn't expect to run top end entertainment.
But as I say, it will make major inroads to the masses. Many will just be using these to watch videos anyway.
It fits many niches where a smartphone adapter does not cut-it. And priced attractively for what it is.

The Focus being a WMR compatible and the Eclipse for Daydream.

Imo AR is designed for more business and more for its 'usefulness'. Whereas VR is designed more for entertainment (games/video/p*rn/events etc).

AR can never immerse you in another place/world like VR can and at the other side, people can't walk around with a VR headset on 24/7 like they possibly could with AR glasses, providing people with important info.

So both have their pros and cons.

In a way they have merged with the WMR GOGGLE.
I say that because the real world is captured via a camera and is actually a AR function.
(all software dependent)
The advantage of this method is you don't need to worry about ambient light conditions messing with your display.
Whereas AR Glasses, it is very much a problem for that immersion.

I have always seen it this way but it was a early surprise to me when last year, several decided to move towards a GOGGLE style AR display. And that it was part of a supported platform (WMR).
But you are spot on. AR GLASSES will be the primary of Enterprise and giving the average consumer with a ROBOCOP style heads-up display.

But I do wish to point out that GOGGLES are a different breed for AR.
Something that was not in my thinking 6 years ago except in theory. It's the best of both worlds in a way with exception to field of view.(for now). That ambient light factor separates what you can effectively do with GLASSES as compared to GOGGLES. Until display tech for them advances.
But we still have a week for those new WMR's to release with MS Updates.
And there are other good reasons to keep those merged keywords. JMHO

I really think they have been drawing a line in the sand waiting for someone to cross it.
Why is there a need to have a 'killer app' ?
They may only be setting themselves up for a disappointment.

Does the lack of a killer app change the value of watching a 360 video/movie ? Taking a remote tour of the Pyramids ?, Having a cool afternoon with friends at a VR arcade ?

The calls for a killer app come from those that want awareness of the tech for mass market selling quickly.
It does not change the tech at it's core. If everyone were to buy products this year, there would be disappointment in the amount of content and most would be shelved.

I think the whole picture will look different just 6 months from now, when many new to VR will be wishing for new, fresh content.
Killer App or not, you are likely to add 8 million new VR consumers in the 4thQ 2017 alone.

Yes, I have followed that story for a while.
They have been working on this for over a year that I have known of it.

I have found holodeck as a good keyword for some time. Picking up a name or two every few months for the last 4 years. Some thought I was nuts since we are a long way away from what anyone would consider a holodeck (as seen on TV LOL)
but i always understood it as what we aspire to achieve and becomes a common user term. Which is the same way I found the term Teleporter.
No, we will probably never have a teleporter in our lifetime but it is currently used as a jump space and time to a new point or travel in VR programs and I know it will not stop there. But... samples of my thinking...
VRHolodecks - HolodeckTours - CasinoHolodeck - FitnessHolodeck etc...
Plenty in adult also.
I find it very well suited to fill that SocialVR void at the same time. And I'm sure you know that has been my primary long-term target for a long time.
But I was pretty surprised last year when I read of Nvidia's holodeck program. Just their decided use of the term means alot if it is to be a popular consumable product.
So I started doubling down on the keyword at that time and was buying about 2 per month.
I still have a short list of about 18, but I stopped buying them at the beginning of this summer.
Wait to see more evidence. I'm not that greedy... LOL.

But it sounds like they are still in beta mode with this and are interested to see how people interact with it to project out how they want to proceed. Knowing that Microsoft is working towards the same, it may take a couple more years for them to really make headway with this. And we could see some action from quite a few other non social players. Perhaps even Valve.... would make sense making a play for this niche.

But I am quite sure it will be 3 years or more before we have enough players to create a good names demand for what I hold in the niche. But I wish to be wrong about that...LOL.

Basically, this is just a entertainment portal. And I doubt I have any names to fit a model like this but there probably will not be many of them that are not controlled by folks with a current web presence.

I really think the Oculus GO is a game changer and is just what the industry needed right now.
But something in the back of my head is telling me that we will not actually see this device hit market for 5-8 months. And I hope I'm not right about that. But I see them rushing to get pre-orders wrapped up in a hurry.
And we still have not seen all that will be released before xmas, so there is still a chance someone else has one at $250 or less. Which is why I see them rushing the pre-order on the GO.
The GO is built on the Qualcomm open platform, so there will be others like it.

There is this one other thing about it. It's most likely not going to be a WMR compatible.
But perhaps Daydream or they are creating their own. I say that because it most likely has a android OS.
I have not read all the details on this device yet if they are even out there yet
so I'm talking out my yingyang based on what I do know about it.
