You are receiving this email as a result of the Afternic listing process being invoked through an Afternic account, on domain wiseaccountant.com. A listing on this domain has just been attempted.

I've just received this email, and I wonder if this is common, or what is going on. I don't use afternic, I don't have an account with them, and I don't want to sell this name. I haven't initiated any requests. Is it common for them to try to solicit entries for their sales lista?

I've never experienced this. It is possible it was listed by someone else - either in error or a previous owner who's also one of those superusers who can list domains not owned by them

I did list it for sale at Name Silo at $2,500, and I've now upped that to $25,000 and flagged it as sold. Maybe this will stop it being listed. :)

If someone is mad enough to offer me $25,000, I might be tempted to sell it. :)

Is that email from your registrar asking you to approve the listing on Afternic?

Yes - this is the next paragraph

If you would like to list wiseaccountant.com for sale with Afternic, please visit the link below. Please note that the link below requires you to be logged into your account so if you are not currently logged into your NameSilo account then please first log in before going to the link below.

My best guesses is, some one tried to list your domain by mistake or something else. What I know about Afternic is, if your domain eligible for fast transfer out then they send this email & you need approve it.

Yes that is my experience - listing at fixed price, not above a certain price threshold, makes it eligible for fast (immediate on payment) transfer. If you don't click the link in the Namesilo email fast transfer is not enabled but I'm not sure if the listing goes ahead anyway at Afternic but without fast transfer enabled so I would keep an eye on Afternic.

As well as the email from Namesilo to the domain registrant, the Afternic account holder gets this email

Congratulations on choosing the Afternic Premium Network for the promotion of
your domain names. Your domains are registered with an eligible Premium Network
registrar.

In order to get the domains live on the Premium Network: *1)* we need to
*confirm your domain ownership* and *2)* you need to *accept the Premium Network
terms and conditions*
so that your domains are opted-in to the Premium Network.
You will be contacted shortly through email to complete the opt-in process.
Click on the link in that email to complete the process for the following domains:

a-b-c-d-e.com for $xxxxxxx

By the way, Afternic security sucks 150% so it is possible it is not even the Afternic account holder doing a listing.

I wondered if it was someone trying to get hold of the name at a cheap price.
Anyway, it has alerted me to the fact that someone is interested in the name. It's a shame that he isn't interested in one of the names that I want to sell. :)

I've just had another one of these confirmation emails. Is this Afternic trying to drum up business?
I notice that the first name I mentioned is not listed, but the plural is listed for sale. This latest sale is for JointCarInsurance.com and it is listed on Afternic at the BIN price that I had in the Name Silo market place ($5,000). I took this as meaning that they thought it was a good name, so I've doubled the price to $10,000. :)

So what happens if somebody tries to buy it at the BIN price through Afternic? Do I have to pay double commission if I let it go, or does Afternic handle the transaction, even though I haven't got an account with them?

I too have received several emails - "Approval Required for Opt-in of Domains to Afternic"

I've just ignored them.

Cheers

Well I usually just ignore these types of email, but in this case they seem to have gone ahead and listed the name with a BIN. I can see it causing a bit of confusion and bad feeling if someone does try to buy the name through Afternic. I'd prefer to sell it through NS, because I can add the proceeds to my Bitcoin savings. :)

According to my experience, all domains for which one got unwanted "please authorize your listing" requests are already listed as being for sale with all afternic partner registrars (GD, namecheap, netsol etc) - just without fast transfer enabled. Whether the said request would be denied or ignored is irrelevant. In some cases, you'll find them offered for sale in a couple of days - after all updates are finished.

A proof is it really the case for each particular domain is on www.afternic.com / domain / yourdomain.com (all without spaces) - if there is something found on this address - such as make offer or bin - then the domain is already inside somebodys account

I just got one of those emails. I went and tried to add the domain to my Afternic account and it would not even let me. You would think it would give me the option to place the domain into ownership review.

Afternic could simply run a cross check of my email being under a different name than the other account holder who tried to list the domain for sale. This is why domains get sold and the proceeds go to the wrong person.

my suggestion, remove / reverse your listing until this is sorted out!

Which listing? I don't have an account with Afternic. and if this is the way they conduct their business, I'm not likely to have one.

I'd suggest getting a Sedo, Afternic, Uniregistry account at minimum and adding all your domains to them. Not looking to use them? Add all your domains as make offer and set minimum bids across the board so your not bothered with low offers. I've done the majority of my sales over the last 15 years through my own sales sites but I still list at other sites as make offer. They don't send many offers though because the domains point to my own sales sites. Afternic would be the strongest of the 3 I mentioned though due to their distribution network being strong. Basically add them yourself as a defensive measure I do this at aftermarkets and at parking companies even if I don't use them. Never know oddball sale may occur even if ya don't point them there, Afternic being the most likely for that to happen. Basically if you don't list them someone else may be able to. If you list them then someone else won't be able to and it will trigger a whois review before them being able to add it.

I think you'll receive a refund as the seller would be unable to deliver the domain, but, for this price, wouldn't afternic require a wire transfer instead of a simple cc purchase?
