SPOILER ALERT - it's OVER
https://www.namepros.com/posts/6369241/

For the record, so far my completed transfer total is FOUR and another handful are done as far as approval emails, just waiting on the losing registrar(s). The completed domains were all at registrars with fast transfer approval (NameCheap, Gandi, NameSilo)

My total number of transfers entered is 193, more than half are "In Progress" which means they haven't actually started, would not be surprised if they never process. The rest are Pending Auth Code, Action Required etc, so those are what I expect to be honored to complete within the 90 day window. My goal was simply to enter as many domains as possible, then cherry pick which ones I would actually try to complete. Those that are unlocked and ready for transfer work best, but not always. A few I forgot to remove privacy and that is holding things up.

My account was locked today when first checked around 20:00 UTC 26 Sept, several hours after my prior login. The phone call to support to remove the lock took less than 10 minutes, the gal was friendly and fast, I had not bothered to attempt to reset my password before calling since I knew from this thread what was actually happening.

Sad comment - I like the NetSol UI better than NameCheap

Hilarious related thread from 2003 - http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=198611

Netsol never reply tickets? already over 24 hours, no any reply :(
Mostly they reply within a hour as i have seen.
This coupon code is already shared on more than 7 forums/websites.
It's caught be a busy day for them as only NamePros post is got 9K+ views.
So, maybe they have got thousands of domain transfer request and a lots of support request also.

@alcy - yes, and there is still a lag in receiving email after entering the Auth Codes, longer today than yesterday.

Having done mass transfers before, this is actually fine to go at this pace, will be happy for whatever freebies I get : smile :

Why are they locking people's accounts when they are actually offering this promotion? They want you to transfer in, but lock your account when you do? How often do they do this account locking thing?Just whenever they feel like it, stopping you accessing your own domains? I have never encountered that with any other registrar before, but it is worrying.

If anyone who has had to contact them to unlock wouldn't mind, what is involved in getting your account unlocked when you call? What information do you have to give? Thanks.

Maybe for placing a lots of free orders from same account? maybe for doing spam/abuse/not passed their fraud test. Can be for using fake/like fake details? or maybe for just slow down them.

Maybe.Though, if there is a free promotion, that they are offering, one would imagine they would expect people to take it up. If there are limits, if people don't know, they can't know to apply them.

Spam/abuse I understand, but seems like too many people here reporting it happening for it to be exceptions like that. Remains to be seen, I guess. Hope it isn't their continued pattern of obstructing access to people's domains though.

truth is.. sadly.. that its none of the above... they are simply that bad and unprofessional and lock people accounts without reason or notice... but.. in their case, I guess you can just conclude that they're living up to their already bad rep.

Why are they locking people's accounts when they are actually offering this promotion?

I'd guess that if somebody is transferring too many domains for free - NetSol can reasonably guess
that:

- this is a domainer

- this domainer elected to transfer at least some domains he wants to keep (in contrast, small batches may well mean domains that he would allow to drop otherwise)

- he would therefore transfer most domains back to other registrars after a year, which would mean that NetSol neither will earn $35 renewal fee, nor will they have a chance to earn $69+ from namejet expired sales channel (where folks are buying pretty much everything if it is "expired" and at the same time "aged" for example).

Naturally they do not want to pay registry ~$8 per each of such domains from their pocket now, so they are locking accts

Actual reason of such a promotion must be their willingness to have as much domains as possible expired and send them to namejet after a year, which thing has no chances to happen with large domainer-owned transfer-ins. They cannot be that naive to expect any noticeable renewal rate @ $35/yr from those customers who transferred their domains to NetSol today (and so, in most cases, are well aware of how other (good) registrars work in quality/price aspect and all other aspects).

Went ahead and called, got a fantastic and knowledgeable rep. She said that the offer is actually unlimited, and will last until they use up their quota OR 1 October whichever comes first. There are no charges and no restrictions, other than the mandatory 60 day transfer lock.*

She also said it is available to NEW customers also, so anyone having problems, have you tried multiple browsers? That seemed to help a few people.

Also, as long as the transfer is initiated during the special, then they are allowing a full 90 days for the transfer to complete, just in case someone updates their contact info and gets stuck with the Change of Registrant lock, this will allow plenty of time for the transfer.

My specific issue was that I forgot to turn off privacy and only did so after I started the transfer, so the approval emails are not getting through. She said if the system doesn't get a reply, it will REFRESH the contact email from whois after a couple days, so eventually they should come through. My other option was to cancel and start over, which I opted not to do.

*The standard hassles with NetSol are
1] you have to call to get Auth Codes, they try to talk you into staying. Best excuse say you sold the domain and they are pretty good about it.
2] push between accounts can be tedious - personally have not attempted
3] they will try and renew up to NINETY days ahead of time, and the renewal costs are high - $35ish
4] they have lots of internal marketing, there is a way to opt-out while you are checking out, not sure how to opt-out after the fact.

I am also fully aware that every rep has their own understanding so hopefully, the answers I got are accurate although some of this info does directly contradict what other members have been reporting

Good Luck everyone!

Im from asia, and I cant speak fluent english. So, I am kind of worry if we must call them to get Auth Codes. Can I email them instead of calling?

I don't think their ticket systems are efficient, I have sent them a ticket about 30 hours ago, still no any reply...

I once tried one of the "free" add-ons promoted to me in the NetSol control panel. Should have read the (hidden) fine print first. Turned out to not be free at all, which they made their best to obfuscate, and when I started getting billed for this "free" service I had to jump through numerous hoops to get out of it. The whole thing was obviously designed to make it as difficult as possible for you to get out. Also had to call them as part of this process, which is fine if you are based in the US, but it can be difficult for someone located overseas (was not able to establish a clear connection during the long-distance calls and was put on hold a lot during the process, so it turned out be rather costly).

Moreover, I initiate batches transfer outs of NetSol all the time (auction purchases), and it's very difficult to move names out of there. Obviously there is the multi-step process for getting the authorization code and unlocking the domain, a process that they have recently fragmented into two separate multi-step processes. You also have to wait for the authorization code to arrive, and after transfer has been initiated, even if you manually approve the transfer out via their email approval link, the transfer still takes the full 5 days to complete transfer.

A glitch that has been troubling my account for months now is that many of my names show as 60-day transfer locked in perpetuity, so I'm not able to unlock and not able to request an authorization code via the control panel. A domain might have been under my ownership and in my account for 6 months, but my NetSol account will indicate that it is 60-day transfer locked and make it impossible to unlock (required for push and transfer) and get the authorization code (required for transfer). This glitch has caused me a lot of problems whenever I have sold NetSol regged names, as I have often had great difficulties moving these names to the buyers, and NetSol have not been helpful at all (again, long distance calls, verification processes, etc.), and they only help me with moving the names, not fixing the underlying issue that causes these names to be transfer-locked forever in their system. With so many steps in place to prevent and make transfer-out more difficult, I sometimes wonder if this transfer lock "problem" is by design to retain more domains. Now that I have lots of experience in how to deal with this issue, as I know which hoops to jump through, it has become manageable, but it's still a big time-consuming inconvenience when account push/transfer out should just take a few clicks.

Free transfer-in is obviously a great cost-saving offer, but it also seems to be antithetical to what NetSol is about, and I will be very surprised if it turns out that they are simply going to let domainers get in and out of this deal scot-free.

Fasthosts.com moved fast for me.
Netfirms, dotster stuck in pending for 2 days. How long did it take for dotster?

WARNING Some unfortunate yet not unexpected news:

The deal is OVER. Any accounts which used the code are flagged as FRAUD, whether you were emailed the code or not. When it all shakes out they are not sure what will happen to domains that were transferred with a code that were not supposed to - either they will be charged, or reversed back to the original losing registrar and the extra year reverts as well. AFAIK that is only if they reverse in a certain time frame.

My discovery was logging into my account to see every incomplete transfer CANCELLED and calling to find out what was going on.

Told the rep once again that they should get an official spokesperson here on NP.

Highly suggest that anyone who used the code and had not received the original email contact them by phone ASAP

Class action lawsuit on the way. My sincere condolences to anyone affected by this disaster. I'm having flashbacks to RegisterFly.

Did you receive the original email?

No, I did not receive the original email. That is why I called to verify and was told that the code was open to everyone before I entered all my Auth Codes.

It is still letting me do names but I did have the original email.

Not sure if they will be canceled though but would have thought they would have disabled the option if they consider it fraud.

Will have to see what happens I suppose :xf.eek:

Also got the original mail.
Completed are in my account, pending are still pending.

@NamePov @Elad n and anyone else who actually DID get the email - you should be fine, do as many transfers as you can to make up for all of the lost time and effort those of us who were lied to endured : grin :

It is entirely plausible that the rep fully knew that I was not among the email recipients and was just being CYA by stating all accounts would be flagged that had used the code. I am just surprised to be the only one showing the cancelled status. Although if other members are still locked out, then maybe mine was a rare case of unlocked so I'm the only one seeing the cancellations so far.

I'm worried now. My account is neither locked, nor are the transfers showing as canceled but maybe they're processing the accounts slowly.
I'd tried to transfer another 50 domains earlier today but it did not work. Perhaps that was good fortune.

@anantj - how many did you successfully complete? And guessing you are in same boat as me, not an original email recipient, correct?

Seven completed successfully and two pending completion. I'm in the same boat as you - not an original email recipient but then I think I've turned off all marketing e-mails from NetSol so that could be the reason.
