I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

Do you guys really want to see the drop lists all the way back to 2014?
Like really? :cigar:
Absolutely, and much further back than that. How many of us were looking at the TBR in 2008 or even further back? What got missed or passed over?

Me personally, no. But someone else might. I guess it doesn't really require to be on the board to ask about it :)

I thought we might have been able to find some of the info here, but no such luck:
https://web.archive.org/web/*/tbr.cira.ca

Some of the index pages are there, but the listings itself appear to be missing.
I've asked in the past. If I'm the only one who asks...it ain't going to happen.

This got me curious so I googled a domain (in quotes) that I know I picked up at a drop and found it on page 4 of Google

https://www.sibername.com/tbr/results.php?date=2011/07/20

It's a pain in the butt, but take this URL and insert any Wednesday and you may find what you're looking for.

Obviously this will only show what was picked up that day, not what was available

man .... my luck with .ca is virutally 0.. I think I only had couple 2figure sales over last 3 years!
and yet my domains.. though regs.. are decently picked... could be way worse!

that being said.. I got my highest .ca offr a day ago on gd auctions.. $150... cannabisforyou...ca

will try to counter, but will accept $150 if no more can be negotiated. as I think its fair price.. for a .ca............. I will probably drop all but handful of them. its going nowhere.

Good tool nonetheless. Thanks for posting that.

Your experience is mirroring my own. I'm nearly 10 years in with very little success in .ca
I'll be letting some drop this fall and then refocus on dot com.

Same here.

In other news:

The election results have been published:

CIRA Members voted to elect three directors from the final nomination committee slate and one director from the final Member’s slate, each for a three-year term. The new board members are:
Thank you all for your support, see you next year :) I'd really like to know who all of those CIRA voters are.

Sorry you didn't make it. I'm not a member so I couldn't vote.

I just applied for my membership. It took about 2.5 minutes.

I realize now that I should have done this many years ago as I own around 120 dotca's which makes me one of CIRA's best customers. It's a no brainer that we need to have a domainers perspective on that board. Lets try to get you on next year.

okay got it up to $200... I'm not gonna try to aim for the sky with .ca with my prices...
sold:

cannabisforyou....ca........ $200 gd makeoffer.

this about pays for all my (promo) wha.ca .ca regs and transfers this year.. so I kinda break even with .ca... it probably also concludes my .ca adventure.. minus maybe like 5 domains..
all in all this extension is imo bad news for domainers....

There isn't enough marketing for .ca's....and I strongly believe that has a direct effect on not only the development but the disposition of the average Canadian in terms of what to buy first i.e .com vs .ca.

Even from my generation, those who are 20-25 right now...there isn't much incentive to buy .ca. The prices aren't great, there are no big Canadian companies stressing the value of the extension and young entrepreneurs in Canada have no real reason to use the extension. They could be just as effective, if not more effective with a .io or a .co....

It's time fore a systematic change in how we manage this cctld, and I hope that the new candidates are able to make the online business environment better for everyone. Canada needs be more innovative and progressive in establishing it's online presence to actually stay relevant...right now...it's failing miserably.

I agree with this. We'll see what the board/management does, but I'm not expecting too much change. The member candidate has been re-elected to the board.

The October price increase won't help much either. I'm really concerned that CIRA has enough focus on being the .CA registry and less focus on being a registry and DNS operator for others. The funds need to go back into .CA itself, not so much into new products. At least they were able to surpass their goal of adding 500,000 domains over the year, but there is still little growth compared to how .DE and .UK grew over the years. And in comparison for number of domains compared to population we're still behind.

Would love to hear your suggestions.

"There isn't enough marketing for .ca's"
That's the truth. I haven't seen any since 2008. No making their case on Bloomberg TV. Nothing in The Financial Post. No breakfast tv shows. No AM radio. Virtually nothing.

I started a poll to try to get an approximation of how many dotca's we as domainers own collectively. If we owned 5% or 10% or more of the total number of registrations we could try to influence CIRA collectively to more effectively promote the extension.

The other thing we can think about is to back a horse in the race next year. Those board positions are for 3 year terms. It's possible that we could have 3 domainers on that board, if we work at it.

Just my $.05

sold pot4u...ca.... same guy.. same place gd auctions.. same price. $200

not sure if he's looking for more pot domains.. but I got potforyou and qualitypot left.. so I'll tell him to make me offer on these later if he wants.. on gd...

I am liquidating my portfolio as I just cant keep renewing with no sales... had a solid offer agreed to with an end user but now he wont respond to me. There are buyers but they are few and far between.

I listed my portfolio on here even though this still isn't a very viable marketplace for .ca either...

Filled out the survey. Unfortunately there's only one vote per person, not per domain :)

So for I think the highest amount of votes a domainer candidate got, was still under 100 votes, and to safely win, you seem to need over 200 votes. Apparently there are 14,895 members and 10% of them participate in CIRA governance.

Did you post your best names?

So 1500 votes total for 3 or 4 board seats. We would need to organize 200-300 votes depending on the number of candidates. This is achievable. Especially if we can get the domainers on NP and the other one to apply for membership and back one candidate.

It's not unthinkable to strike an organizing committee to do this and then select a candidate. That will require some physical meetups. I travel for a living, so not an issue for me.

The hardest thing will be figuring out what we want to achieve (ie how to improve this extension) once we elect our candidates. Any ideas?

Not yet, should try to do that - don't think I really have that good ones ;)

It would be best for everyone to make sure that they sign up as members well in advance etc. I just don't have a huge network in Canada... I used to organize "Domainer Dinners", but that was usually about 20 people max.

As for what do we want to achieve it's also worth while to look at "what can we achieve", as the board seems to follow quite a secretive process when it comes to communicating what they are working on at times. There was a board member a while back who wanted to tell the public about the board meetings and how people voted etc, but then was told he wasn't allowed to do so. Also they follow the "Noses in, Fingers out" principle, which basically means they have only advisory status when it comes to operational matters.
