I think it might be nice to mention how many domains you have in your portfolio in the comment section.

I go first!

Less than 200 domains

Why do you want to know? These are personal questions and no one will tell you the truth.

Everyone will tell you they have a BIG budget but in turn they only buy in the $1 auction.
It's like asking how many times do I make love a year!!!

First of all this is not a personal question, we don`t see who votes for what.

Secondly, I think our community is consist of mostly honest and smart people and if they want to see the real data, which I assume they do, than they would vote honestly.

If you go and vote, you would see you are mistaken.

You are right about some of the folks who likes to do that but I think they are really minority here.

Mine $10K-20K a year.
Present portfolio of 190 domains has a substantial investment in it as I don't do hand registers & mostly buy from Godaddy expired auctions.
Need to pay big there :)

Yes, around $1700 for a 4L .com
2-3 more in that range.
Many in high xxx range. Got to beat hugeDomains :)
I hope I haven't over paid !!

I think

If the pre-owner is still alive you might over paid for that 4L.com

If he is dead you probably have a nice pronounceable 4L there

I don't understand this word "budget". In England, budge means move, and that is what seems to happen to my annual expenditure. :)

Yes that`s right the money you spent annually for domaining.

Annual budget consists of renewals, new registrations and aftermarket purchases.

Budgie probably means the same as in U.S., although bird in U.K. has a different connotation. To me those are the same as money, because all of them fly right out the window.

The great thread we have here, This poll should give an interesting perspective breakdown.
$8.99 ... $26.97 max
My budget is in this range as a beginner, you coul have roughly 3 domains out of this depending on the extension.
My budget is $25 - 70$

It depends on domain sales, advertising revenues, this year, prices are less, so less money will be spent. In India the government falsely claims that well connected frauds who do not spend any money on domain names are domain investors to pay them a monthly indian government salary at the expense of the real domain investor who is getting nothing.

My annual budget for new purchases is six figures but there's seldom enough inventory at wholesale to deplete it. Asking prices of premium domains are characteristically too retail. If we include renewals, it's seven figures.

Renewals have to be included in your annual budget for domaining, but that wasn't obvious to me upon first reading the question. Am I alone in that?

Budgets: When you start out, keep your budget small, because you're going to misemploy most of the money you invest. Once you understand the market, then your budget will be directly proportional to your earnings. One-off home runs happen but if you want to repeatedly earn a living, you need an ample budget.

IME.

It used to be about $15000 for me in 2014, but this year it's down to about $5000. Mostly because I try stay away from most names with high renewals.

I have also stayed away from auctions this year, but will probably engage in that again in 2018. And increase my spendings to about 10K a year.
