Hi guys,

My name is Kevin, been following this forum for quite awhile, but joined because I wanted to share a news. I am a VP of product at Dub.io, which is a small tool that our team has been building for a few weeks.

We wanted to see if we can create a new (and hopefully better) domain parking tool. We've named ourselves "Dub.io" - nice and short. It works like this.

  1. Sign-up and you will get a website - to which, you can of course point your domain to. However, if you don't want to, that's ok. We will give you a Dub.io sub-domain.

  2. Once that's done, you can start "populating" the site with contents. This can come from RSS feeds, YouTube videos or just from the web articles. Dub.io takes care of automatically crawling these and inserting into your site.

  3. Each content can also be automatically tweeted to your designated Twitter account (this will usually bring more traffic and also get you some followers). You can also set up so that it's automatically posted to Blogger or Tumblr sites too.

  4. And of course, you can monetize it. Right now, we allow you to insert your own Google AdSense ads and VigLink code. The best part? You keep all the revenue generated from your sites. We don't take anything.

  5. Each site is all responsive to different screen-sizes. We try to include a variety of media types like images and related videos so contents are more engaging. Right now, we are in a "testing" phase, so everything is free! We would love for you to come and check us out and let me know if you have any questions.
Would love to discuss via this thread or if you have any questions, you can email me at hello @ dub.io

Thank you so much for your time guys.

a couple of questions:

a. I noticed a very annoying pop-up requesting an email from the visitors on all the domains mentioned on this thread when visiting. Is there any way to get rid of it?

b. Are we allowed to monetise our sites with the automated posts you provide? I'm talking about the posts that appear when we 'skip' adding any RSS feeds. Where do those articles come from?

From the short time I spent navigating the interface, I have to agree with all the others in that it's very easy and fast to setup a site!

On the negative side though, I do believe the interface needs some work in the navigation part. While the initial setup was a breeze, after that I got somewhat lost...
For example,
on the Parking->Sites, when I hover over my domain name, I get the popup text saying that I can visit my domain at domain.dub.io.
on the Parking->Pages, when I hover over my domain name, I get the popup text that I can visit my domain at domain2.dub.io.
Not sure how I managed that or if it's intended.

As a final note,
in the past I have used similar products which provided automated articles only to have my domains get a hit for multiple content.
Personally, before I commit time using dub.io, I will wait to see how the 'automated' content works on 1 or 2 testing domains and -more importantly- what your plans will be regarding the cost. I'd really hate to spend a lot of time only to realise that the cost is prohibiting.

Hi @Hypersot !

Thank you so much for your comments + feedback - much appreciate it!

a) Yes you can turn this off. The pop-up I guess can be annoying for the visitors. But it's also known to be a very effective way to get people to sign up for newsletters. But this is up to you to turn it on or off. We are definitely considering a more less intrusive way of doing a "call-to-action" item.

b) Dub finds contents based on keywords and RSS feeds. So you would've typed some keywords related to your domain and you can also add RSS feed (or not). The initial set of contents are based on those keywords. And of course you can add/update/remove as you please. And yes you can monetize your sites as you wish. The contents provided are not full-contents. They are from publicly available contents provided by those content providers. You will see that sometimes RSS feeds may only contain a snippet of the content. It's completely up to the publishers on how much to include and Dub fully respects that. But those contents are all public.

c) When you park your domain name, it usually takes a little bit of time for the change to be fully reflected (a couple of hours usually). Rather than making you wait to see your parked sites and pages, Dub gives you your own "secondary" url, which is "something.dub.io". It's just a way for you to quickly view your parked site, while waiting for the domain change to be fully applied. Hope that makes sense.

I mentioned this a few times before, but I do apologize for the lack of "guidelines" available on our site. And also sorry about the navigations being confusing. It's right at the top of our list and we will do something about it very soon. Meanwhile, feedback like yours help us greatly in order to design our product as best as we can.

By all means you can test Dub out as much as you can (or as little as you wish!) - totally up to you. I'll be more than happy to answer any of your questions + concerns.

In terms of the "cost" - let me assure you that our cost won't be prohibitive. We're slowly working through different things for our product and cost is something that we are probably thinking about, but we're not there yet. But no way that we will make our product burdensome on our users after all the work that we've done.

You can always reach me either here, or PM me or email me directly [email protected].

Thanks again for all your comments!

Thank you for the detailed reply.

I just want to mention one thing though which you probably missed; I didn't say I was confused with the *.dub.io redirection. I said that there were two different links showing: one shown as domain.dub.io and the other shown as domain2.dub.io (please refer to my post above).

It is totally clear why you do that and, honestly, I like it a lot. It gives us time to 'play' with our design while waiting for the NS to propagate.

Apologies in advance if I misunderstood your reply.

@Hypersot Ah - Got ya. :) sorry.

Do you mean you created a parking site and parking page for the same domain? I think that must be a bug on our system. Only one domain should be mapped to either a parking site or a parking page, not both. Let me go double check on that.

Each parking site and parking page will get their own unique Dub "sub-domain" - so I suppose that's why you see domain.dub.io and domain2.dub.io, but perhaps because of the bug on our system, it got confusing.

...it got confusing.

Exactly what I thought :)

If you need more details please let me know and I'll pm you screenshots and/or my credentials so you can check that yourself.

one more thing I forgot to ask is the export of the total stats. Is that in your plans, does it exist already?
I can't think of a proper parking-like interface without being able to export raw traffic, uniques, revenue, etc.

Thanks

@Hypersot

Hm. We haven't actually thought of exporting.

What "things" would you need to export? What would you do with the export?

I already mentioned what needs to be exported.

I'm not sure what do you mean with your question 'what I will do with the exports'. How can one control the thousands of visitors in traffic if not by gathering all stats from all parking services into one place?

If you won't provide an export feature then, for the domains I 'park' with you, I will have a 'blind' spot in my totals.

@Hypersot Sure. I understand. I'm sure others will agree to your suggestion and will find the export useful.

We will put that on the list and move it to the top. :)

Cheers!

Ok this may have been covered already, but I havent figured it out yet - how do I get my domain to appear as Ricardo.io instead of ricardoio.dub.io?

@adamson791

Sorry if it's not clearly stepped through - apologies.

Easiest way is to point your domain to our nameservers. It's documented here.

https://www.dub.io/help/domain

We're working on an updated version of our docs - should be available very soon! :) I'll also take a look at your domain to make sure that it appears properly.

Just checked and it's already working

It just keeps getting better people! The DUB team is working hard i know, Even though i know much-much more is yet to come from DUB, The sales pages are great, right to the point and very self explained to a potential buyer. Thanks again Kevin and the DUB.io Team, I hope i am the first to sell a domain on the platform, that would be sweet!

Kevin, I've just read your email and some ideas popped up, as usual. :)
Hope you'll like it.

In the email you've sent, you're saying that ..

"You can now also upload logos for your domains and then specify which "markets" your domain may belong to. This will help you categorize your domains later and help you sell better!"

When we are creating ad components in the "Ad Manager", if we can pick a category from a list categories that already have been introduced into the system while uploading the domains, we can then easily publish those specific ad components on the multiple specific domains at the same time without going through manually one by one.

Let's say; I have 27 remote control related domains. I set a category "Remote Control" for each of those domains. In the ad manager, I create an ad component for a remote control related affiliate site and pick the category of "Remote Control" to show this ad unit only in the remote control related domains. We should also then have "Push This Ad Component into Remote Control category domains" kind of command in the ad manager.

This new Categorization feature is very important in my opinion. It can be used to automate various processes.

I'm a big fan of dub.io - the parking pages are lovely, just so much better than just a bland sedo page or something - and parking sites feature is a great way to start developing a domain.
Plus, Kevin is extremely helpful with support and bugsquashing.

@NitroJunkie Got ya. Going to put that on our list and also figure out the best way to implement this. :)
@adamson791 @Stick appreciate your feedback and all the bug reports.... oh how I wish it was always bug-free. :)

Kevin - I've inserted my Viglink code into the site, but havent yet seen any of the content show outbound affiliate links, despite getting confirmation from Viglink that code has been inserted successfully.

Is that due to the fact that the content inserted into the park page doesnt actually belong to me and links to a different web address? Or is there another reason? Thanks

@adamson791 I'll take a look at it and let you know.

@adamson791 I've made a small change to your site's ads so VigLink is now working correctly. Basically, VigLink is a "side-wide" ad, which only needs to be included once and it will be applied to all of your pages.

I can see the VigLink is applying its links to your site. If you go to your site's homepage, you will see that some posts have links with grey-dotted underlines. Those are the links generated by VigLink. You can right click on it and see that it's been generated by VigLink because it has "viglink" class applied to it.

In terms of how exactly VigLink displays these links, you'll need to read up more on how VigLink works.

We are also documenting all these steps so that it won't be too confusing in the near fuure.

Let me know if you have any other issues!!

@Kevin Johnson - Could you please check filters for me? On my futuradomain.com site, I have a filter to NOT post or tweet MMA content, yet it still get through. I put it in there because these posts from MMAnuts keep getting through, even with just MMA in the content, and I don't want them. Thanks.

@Kpett Just applied the filters and it seemed to work ok. I'll look into it as to why it wasn't applied the first time.

Thanks again @Kevin Johnson It's been a couple weeks of adding domains. I noticed that goo gle has actually already indexed a few pages on some, at least one on the newer ones.

Has anybody else here on this thread checked goo gle "site:domainname.com" to see if they have their pages indexed or not? If so, what is the maximum? I have one with 7 pages indexed. 2 of which were the news, the other 5 were standard dub site info.
