I know the criticism behind Alexa.com's traffic ranking manipulation. It's too easily manipulated, right?

So, knowledge is power.

That's the easiest to use traffic ranking, currently, though, right?

What can be easier than having the Alexa extension installed in Chrome and clicking it once to get a somewhat accurate world-wide traffic rank? We all know that site's between 10,000 and 10,000,000 could carry a fake traffic rank, but as long as we know they are not a top 10,000, who cares? The manipulation can't last forever.

I like the Alexa Chrome extension, to check other sites, when seeking new opportunities to get sites linking in. The more popular the better.

I just turn it on and off, in the menu under "More tools," when I watch videos.

Google no longer offers PageRank, so Alexa is the next best thing, for now.

Apples and oranges.
Page rank evaluates link equity. Alexa estimates traffic - and once you get out of the topmost tier, not too accurately. Its not due to intentional manipulation as much as poor data collection. They ONLY evaluate traffic recorded from users who have had the Alexa toolbar installed for several months. How many people do you know who fit that criteria?
All of the major link research services have their own version of pagerank. Moz, majestic, ahrefs - pick one. A lot of people use moz DA.
For traffic - semrush, similarweb, ahrefs ... all better than Alexa. But it's impossible for any external tool to be totally accurate and they become less so the smaller the traffic volume.

Right, the best (actual) measure of traffic is when the tracking code is in your site, like Google Analytics, or stats that your site's hosting offers.

You can't use Alexa for accurate traffic estimations. E.g., a site could have zero backlinks, but is on an aggressive ppc campaign [that Alexa does not recognize].

It’s what you DON’T see that matters.
