information 8 Likely Seven Figure Sales That Have Never Been Disclosed

NameSilo
If you take a look through NameBio, you’ll eventually notice that just a handful of seven figure domain name sales are reported every year. Since the start of 2015, just thirteen domains have been listed at NameBio as having sold for $1 million or more. Are seven figure sales just a rare occurrence, or are there plenty more sales that have never been reported?

Here, we take a look at eight sales that were likely sold for $1 million or more in the last few years.

X.com - 2017

One of the most notable domain sales of all time happened this year as Media Options (@MediaOptions) helped PayPal to sell the one-letter domain X.com. The buyer was the domain’s former owner, Elon Musk, who originally started the online bank X.com in 1999.

The sales price of X.com hasn’t been disclosed so far. The only other single-letter .COM domain name sale that has been publicly disclosed is that of Z.com, which sold for $6.8 million in 2014. Based on the current value of two-letter .COM’s and the Z.com sale, it’s highly likely that the Tesla CEO paid a seven figure fee for the name.

XF.com - 2017

Just last week, Aron Meystedt revealed that he had sold the domain name XF.com. Having owned the name for ten years and turned down seven figure offers in the past, Aron put the name up for sale in July with a $3.5 million asking price.

The domain was allegedly sold with the help of a Chinese domain broker. Based on Aron’s previous offers and the current value of two-letter .COM domains, it probable that this was a low seven figure sale.

77.com - 2015 and 2017

Two-number .COM domain names are extremely rare. With just one hundred in existence, their wholesale prices are in the seven figure range, with 20.com and 01.com selling for $1.75 million and $1.82 million respectively this year. Domain names like 77.com are even rarer, with just ten double-repeating numeric .COM’s in existence.

In December 2015, we reported that 77.com had sold in a deal worth around $5 million. In May 2017 the name sold again for somewhere between $4 million and $6 million.

66.com - 2016

Another two-number .COM sale that wasn’t reported was that of 66.com. In June 2016, a company called Route 66 sold 66.com with the help of liquid domain broker Giuseppe Graziano. The name was sold to a Chinese investor for a price thought to be in the mid seven-figure range.

In the process, Route 66 downgraded from 66.com to Route66App.com before rebranding to General Magic.

Ring.com - 2014

In 2014, DoorBot rebranded to Ring in a move that coincided with a $5.5 million funding round. Ring’s CEO and founder Jamie Siminoff took part in our Inside Interview series, describing the domain name as “a great investment”.

The price of the domain purchase remained confidential, but a recent LA Times article published in which the sales price was apparently revealed. In July, we received information that pointed towards a $1 million sales price made up of an initial $175,000 payment followed by an $825,000 payment.

BY.com - 2016

André Eidskrem acquired this two-letter .COM in 1996 for just $5,000. Having received dozens of offers for the domain, Mr Eidskrem decided to sell the name in the NamesCon 2016 auction, where the name attracted bids as high as $900,000.

The name didn’t reach its reserve price at the auction, but in June 2016 the name was sold to a Chinese investor. André confirmed the sales price as being over $1 million.

Invest.com - 2014

After selling at Sedo for $1,015,000 in 2008, the name remained idle until the name was acquired by GS Sharestocks Ltd of Cyprus for a fee that was around the $5 million mark. In an interview with Invest.com, the question of price was raised, but due to a confidentiality agreement, the sales price was never revealed.

The general consensus is that Invest.com did sell for around $5 million.

Realty.com - 2015

Hostgator founder Brent Oxley is no stranger to premium domains. Having acquired Give.com and Broker.com for a combined total of $875,000, Brent has also used some of his wealth to buy domains such as Help.com. Another name that Brent acquired is the category-killer Realty.com.

In May 2017, Andrew Allemann of Domain Name Wire visited Brent’s Texas ranch where Brent disclosed that he acquired the Realty.com domain name for a seven figure fee.

TeslaMotors.com was the main domain/site and they have tried for many years now to BUY TESLA.com....looks like they secretly bought TESLA.com after all....
