Hello and good summer for all. Today, i decided to create this thread especially for new domainers. My advice is quite simple: Think twice before you drop it!
I understand and i agree with the other side: I am reseller, i need to sell. I need to fund my bankroll from quick sales. This is ok. For the right names in the right time though.
BUT
Yes, you are reseller, but mainly you are seller. And as seller you must give on your names time. In other words, selling a name to an end-user needs patience. There you can find the big money.
You don't even know when you may receive the offer of your dreams. Maybe 2 months before expiration, or 2 days after registration. It's not so important. The most important thing is to have a plan. The right plan for the right domain names. So, design your plan and focus on it. Again, give it time. Don't count months, count years.
Finally, i want to underline that the most valuable thing i have understand about domaining is the following: Think your next step very well. You don't know the next day, but you can take the best decision today.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
That's a good advice. Patience is the key

Patience is goldmine. For the right names though. The method ''keep and forget it'' usually works well.

You can however also argue the complete opposite: "Think twice before you keep/renew it" (as statistically most of the registered names will never sell ;)).

Sure. This is what i want to focus. The ability to categorize your domains. This is not so easy as it seems.

Good names will eventually sell but no one know when exactly. We can only make a guess

I wouldn't recommend to think like this. It is important to be sure for your doman. And you must decide quickly. To make the right decision for you. One factor is the budget. If you exceed the budget, then you must make tough decisions.
I follow my budget. I have the ability to wait and renew my names. My names are taking value through time. The sales are coming. No need to stress about a name. That is the message i want to send.

imo...

Once you realise a name is a mistake, then get rid of it. The renewal fee represents a new chance to make a profit. Give it away on name silo, or try to sell it 3 months before expiry at a reduced price - even if it's only a dollar.

That's what supermarkets do - they don't keep last years carrots in the hope that someone will eventually buy the toxic mess.

Think twice before you register it.
If you are not prepared to keep and renew the domain for years, it must not be that good.

100 crap domains that will never sell to an end user may cost $1000 or more the first year (yes there are promos but backorder and auction and premium renewal domains can cost much more). Multiply $1000 annually times a few years before realizing that those keywords in some weird extension will never sell gets very costly. Imagine if instead of 100 crap domains you have 500. That is why new TLD registrations will come crashing down over the next few years as renewals exceed sales for the majority of new TLD investors. Until end users view domains as valuable marketing tools rather than a $25 expenditure, there is little need to load up on marginal-quality domains.

Sale crap domain name here & keep good name at least 2 to 3 years. Approach end user if you get your offers sell as soon as possible.

Let's clarify that the names that are labeled with ''reseller price'' are not always trash.
Of course everybody with eagle eye can find good names with low reseller price. That is one of the reason this forum is so successful.
From the other side, you have to think what is your ''best of the best''. Again, this doesn't mean that these names will be sold faster. Probably yes. But this is the personal choice of everyone.
Overall, this is a game of possibilities. You have to bet on the best options, aiming on faster and bigger sales.
