Does anyone know how to display a date and city dimension (secondary and tertiary) together in the same week long report when using Efty landers? Or if it is even possible?

When i check my weekly report I use the following path at the moment:

Acquisition>All Traffic>Channels

Then I click on "Direct" and "/" and find "Hostname" in the "Other" drop down (located next to Landing Page).

This will then bring up a list of all my domains and sessions. I can further sort it by "Date" or "City" by selecting from the Secondary Dimension drop down. But I cannot add a Tertiary drop down in order to see both of those together.

I know that I can change the date at the top to a specific day to see from where people visited for that day only. But it would be nice to be able to run a week long report and sort with this criteria.

Appreciate any feedback.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Maybe export the data to a CSV or Excel file and take it from there ?

This is not possible as far as my knowledge of GA goes. The best hack is indeed to simply change the date at the top so GA will only show you data for that specific date.

@bowskie / @Doron Vermaat - not sure if you still need this, but you can do it quite easily by building a custom report.

Go to CUSTOMIZATION > Custom Reports > then click '+ New Custom Report'

You can have up to 5 dimensions in a custom report, so you could easily nest DATE|HOSTNAME|CITY within a drilldown. If you don't want to have the report in Explorer format, you can also change the type to 'Flat Table' - or even click 'Duplicate this tab' to have both in one report.

I have also implemented a small workaround to avoid having to use Hostname, and be able to use Page instead ... it involves rewriting the Request URI to include the Hostname. But afterwards, it's much easier to use a range of default reports such as Real Time (Top Active Pages) and the default Site Content reports (All Pages).

Instead of seeing '/' for every single Page name, and having to apply the Hostname dimension... I now see the URL of each landing page.

The downside of this is that you won't be able to click/link out directly to the URL from within the reports - but for me, it's still worth it. I'm also not using any URL dependent Goal settings, but if you are... then I'd advise against making this change.

Filters are also destructive, so you might want to create a new 'View' for your Efty Landers property, to keep the original data intact. (more details here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1033162?hl=en)

If you're interested, here are the instructions for setting up the custom filter:

Go to Admin > select your Efty Landing Pages property > Filters > +Add Filter

Name the filter, select Custom for filter type, then choose Advanced.

For Field A -> Extract A, choose Hostname and insert "(.*)"
For Field B -> Extract B, choose Request URI and insert "(.*)"

We can now join these together in the output:

For Output To -> Constructor, choose "Request URI" and insert "$A1$B1"

It should look like the image below. Then click save.
