Problems, Bugs and Fixes at Afternic - Report Problems Here

I suggest a new thread titled Problems, Bugs and Fixes at Afternic - Report Problems Here. Then we can all list our issues so Afternic have to fix them. These Afternic probs have been repeatedly flagged up across numerous threads on here over a period of time, including the need for 2FA. Godaddy own Afternic and have the resources and motivation to fix it - this risky mess is unacceptable and reflects badly on their brand.

For info, Afternic keep reverting some of my domains to "In Review" status for no reason, and I only know that if I log in there to check on them. Until I then ask support to take them out of Review they are not listed for sale and will not sell at Afternic.

@Joe Styler When can we expect Godaddy to take action on Afternic, including implementing 2FA?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I can definitely confirm that Afternic-listed names do not show up in ExpiredDomains.net. it would be great if they could.

OK that example names helps. I will look into it. We do not share our inventory with all 3rd party sites so I cannot say what the decision will be but I will look into things.

Hi Joe, Don't forget to check your messages.. Thank you.

Aren't expireddomains net (and other non-registrar owned sites, such as domaintools) simply participating in marketplace affiliate programs? I've seen domaintools showing forsale banners with whois search results both for afternic domains and sedo domains. So afternic may have such an affiliate program (whether it is public or not, and are the conditions favorable to affiliate - vs Sedo - is another story)

Hi guys,

Had a very bad experience with AfterNic. And I think this is not the last time it will happen.

I have previously sold domains through AfterNic but I always received payments through PayPal, but after the recent AfterNic "Update", they can only send money to me by international wire because PayPal doesn't provide services in my country but I can receive payments on my friend's PayPal who lives abroad. @Joe Styler isn't sure how I was able to receive funds on PayPal before. Anyways, I don't mind receiving payments by wire if I get the total funds and at the bank I want.

So, I sold a domain for $2000 during the first 10 days of June, that email is gone so I can't say for sure. On 15 June the funds were approved and I was told to transfer the domain name. I provided the auth. code immediately and kept waiting for them to initiate transfer. After almost a week, and many requests to TA@afternic and service@afternic to initiate transfer, they finally initiated transfer on 21 June. The buyer must also be wondering that it has been more than 10 days (no doubt) and he hasn't received the domain. He might've told them to cancel the transaction or he could've done a chargeback! Why should they take so much time to initiate transfer?!

On 24 June, transfer was complete and AfterNic told me:
You will receive an email within 1-3 business days to notify you when your payment has been sent to you

Yeah, right. On 28 June, AfterNic told me that they've released the $1,599.20 payment. So they released the payment about 20 days after the sale, no big deal.

It takes 3-5 Business days for payment to arrive but a week passed and I hadn't received the funds. I asked for the "SWIFT Copy" and the name of the bank through which they've sent the payment so that my bank could track the transaction. The date was 5th of July.

6th July, Nick S. (AfterNic TA) told me he has reached out to their accounting department and have requested the tracking information. (Spoiler alert: 8 days have passed this guy still hasn't given me anything! I emailed him several times during these 8 days and He keeps talking to the accounting department and tells me soon soon but he still hasn't given me the SWIFT Copy that was very necessary!)

I told Joe about it 3 days ago and this was his reply:
Nick is the same person I would ask and he let me know that he told his boss to look into it as we do not have access to the SWIFT code. We use a third party payment processing company and they confirmed the payment was made and we have the code and bank info Nick already provided you. Beyond that his supervisor will need to look into it further for you.

So according to Joe, on 12 July, they had the very necessary info but for some reason they never gave it to me. I was wondering whether I will ever receive the payment.

If I would've received the SWIFT Copy it would've been better as I would've known at least the status of the transaction.

24 hours ago my bank told me that AfterNic sent money to another local bank to probably save a few bucks!!!!!! They also gave me the proof in case anyone is wondering.. That bank sent money to my bank and also took money for themselves. I received $1500 in local currency instead of $1600, I am aware a little amount gets deducted but not $100!!!

I don't care if you use a third party payment processing company, you're paid 20% per sale and we should receive the 80% ! Tell your payment processing company to send money to the bank where they are told to send. If they want to send it to another bank, then add $100 to the payment. Send me $1700 instead of $1600 so I get the funds I should.

I already gave you $400 from the $2000 sale. If it costs you a little bit to send the money to the bank I ask you to send money to, then deal with it! I want my money back.

AfterNic owes me USD 100 @Joe Styler . If you think $100 is nothing and I shouldn't be mad about it. Then just send them to my PayPal. No big deal right?

It has been over a month, and the funds are still not credited in my bank, my bank says it will still take a few more hours.

Finally, I had sold a domain through NameSilo marketplace just a few days ago, they always release payment 7 days after the sale and the payment arrives in 3 days at most! And they send full payment to the same bank that I asked you to send payment to. Why can't AfterNic do the same?

@Joe Styler - I may suggest you 2 domain lists to investigate. Service @ afternic was of no help....

List 1: Domains for which afternic never sends "fast transfer" auth requests to their registrar (NameSilo in my particular case). I tried to add and deleted and re-added these a few times from my afternic account, the system correctly marks them as "eligible" but the auth email never arrives. Nor the system puts an usual "please approve domains @ your registrar" notifications into the notification center. Which indicates that there is some internal bug. I tried to escalate the problem with service@ email but all I got from them was a generic copypaste list of possible reasons such as domains not being 60 days old. Which is not true. As I successfully activated them with SedoMLS for fast transfer. But I wanted to have these particular domains with Afternic.

List 2: Domains that afternic rejected with no reasons. Not adult. Such as domains referring to some analysis/analytics (in which case the system probably guessed that they are adult because of first 4 letters of these terms, and afternic agents doing "review" did not actually read what were they reviewing and rejected), non-English domains (dot coms, not IDNs) which I intended to list as afternic has distribution partners in appropriate countries - and with perfect meanings if translated to English ("buy gifts" for example) - for such domains I do not have enough fantasy to guess why were they rejected. Among them - non-english domain that happen to have "b,u,s,h" letters sequence inside. OK we know that there were two Presidents Bushes in afternics country or residence, but it does not mean that every domain with "b,u,s,h" letters is related to either President, or is trademarked, or should be sent to manual review by afternic agents at all. Etc, etc, etc.

If you can have these 2 lists "fixed" - I'd be happy to send you pm or email with exact domains and translations/etc where appropriate... Thanks for reading :)

Thanks Joe. Email sent.
As a side note, it might be good idea to stop rejecting adult domains that are in fact adult. Afternic already distributes tons of those from your preferred superuser customers, so maintaing such a filter within a normal enduser interface serves no purpose...

We didn't have a SWIFT code only the IBAN code we provided. We needed to request the other code. Nick had provided you with the IBAN code which I was referring to. I asked their supervisor to look into the issue you raised about the bank being paid incorrectly to the wrong bank.

What's the use of the IBAN code? can it be used to track that transaction? I and my bank both have the IBAN code obviously we never needed that, but it cannot be used to track a transaction according to my bank and they needed the SWIFT code.

Thanks for raising this issue. Do not forget about it because I am going to sell more domains through AfterNic and I don't want this to happen again.

BTW, Nick has stopped replying, his last reply to me was a week ago,
I am working with my accounting department to determine whether or not we are able to provide you with the requested SWIFT copy. I will provide an update as soon as I have any new information.

I haven't told him that I've received payment now. It took over a month, Nick should know that it was urgent. If I would initiate a wire and ask my bank for the SWIFT code, they would give it to me. How can AfterNic not tell their payment processing company to get them the SWIFT code?

I let the support team know that you had posted here that you received the payment when you did. We did get the swift code from the vendor but when we did you already announced that you received the money.

I think we all can agree, that the ditribution network is great. it get a lot sales.

But everything else is from stone age. I mean You can`t choose between payment types? I mean what the hell is that? I would want once get paid via paypal, other times via wire. Now I have to enter that info every time manually.

Bulk managment tool ? I mean I can´t edit prices in bulk etc..

@Joe Styler
I have this ongoing problem. Most of my domains are set to Minimum Offer. With some domains I set a Buy Now Price to activate the Fast Transfer and it hardly works for me. I usually have to call for them to send the opt in email. So with domains set to Min. Offer is there something else I need to do besides set a Buy Now Price so I don't have to call?

@Joe Styler - still not working for me.

Everyone should have they have no emails in their queue today and had been running at over 90% being answered within the first 24 hours so I don't know what happened with your email but that is very unusual and I apologize.

This bug may be more pertinent to GoDaddy specifically, but it's happening with Afternic-listed names when I check them in the GoDaddy search bar like an end-user would...

I've noticed that approximately 15% of the time when I check for a name that is Afternic-listed, GoDaddy returns a "Sorry, ________ is taken" message:

bc1.png

Then if I hit Search Again, which virtually no end-users will do, it will show up appropriately:

bc2.png

I hope there's a way this could be tightened up so it works as it's supposed to a much higher percentage of the time.

Wow, is it new thing or was it always there? you can choose witch payment method you want to use in transaction?

OMG. Not again... Last time I saw such issues was in the beginning of 2017 - GD was unable to correctly serve domainsearches (for aftermarket premium domains) performed by visitors with above-average privacy settings, such as cookies disabled or limited, adblockers in paranoid mode, corporate firewalls and the like. And, yes, only second search worked sometimes (as the system showed correct results only if some specific cookies were found on users end, and these specific cookies were delivered to the user only after the first (unsuccessful) domain search).

Are you using a lot of privacy settings that wouldn't allow cookies?

One annoying factor for me... I have several hundred names listed in Afternic. The 50 listings (max) at a time per page is severely annoying. Can this be upped? I'd love to see 200, or 500, or more as an option.

Right now literally all of my names in Afternic are giving the "Sorry ______ is taken" message in GoDaddy. Period. @Joe Styler is there an update to the GoDaddy system going on right now that is causing this?

I'm using AdBlocker with Chrome.

@Joe Styler - Are there payout issues this week? I received four "We’ve sent you payment" payout emails from Afternic a few days ago, but only one payment (for one of the four domains) from PayPal was sent out together with those emails. The other three payments seem to have gone missing. I've never seen a delay between "We’ve sent you payment" payout emails and PayPal payments before. Is this a known issue?

Seeing the same thing here with uBlock Origin and FireFox, Afternic listings don't show up as available.

However, since no listings show up as available, it might have something to do with Afternic disabling listings for review. I sometimes log in to find my entire portfolio has been opted out of the fast transfer network, and after this problem passes (usually takes a few hours to one day), it takes time before these listings go live throughout the registrar network again. I noticed all my listings had been opted out earlier today, so that might be the reason why all listings don't work right now as their system seems to be doing anther review of of listings.

This issue I just reported is beyond what I reported yesterday.

Also, today I checked my names' GoDaddy availability with Firefox, which I don't have any ad-blocking or anything else in and yet they're all showing as "taken", which is why I'm wondering if GD is in the midst of changing their Afternic connection system or something.

I just did a search for a couple of my Afternic listings and they showed up on GoDaddy. (Searching on default internet viewer on Samsung S8)
