Hello, My name is Gary...You can call me " Oldgraybeard" I have been domaining on and off since 1998. I have registered many, many domain names since 1998, needless to say, I have dropped way more by far than actually held on to or sold for a substantial profit. With all the money I have blown regging domains, I could have retired 10 years earlier. But I must admit it has been a lot of fun over the years, whether I made any money on them or not. One thing I have learned over the years is when someone asks my opinion on how much a certain domain is worth, I usually answer, it all depends how much someone is will to pay on any given time or day. I have seen names I thought were worth $10,000 or more, just to find out that no one was really interested at the time so it sat being renewed year after year and eventually it dropped. I sometimes wonder whatever happened to a particular domain. I will from time to time check to see if it is available or if someone has it registered. Many times I end up finding it parked at Sedo for sale at a fraction of what I thought the value might be. Anyways, ask me anything you want and I will try to get back with you. Happy Domaining!

Welcome to NP, OGB. Has domaining really delayed your retirement with 10 years? If it's such a money drain, what has kept you going for nearly 20 years? Are you turning a profit with your domains at this point?
I guess I let it delay my retirement because I was a domain Junkie. Within the 10 year delay, I did have a few pretty great years profit wise, but it was unrealistic to think you where going to come out ahead month to month and year by year. I suppose I could have retired earlier than I did, but the domaining was just a side interest I really enjoyed. I also had a day job working for Alcoa Aluminum at $110,000 a year and I had zero debt. So I am doing okay. I invested in gold in the early 1980's and bought some land and a home with my gold royalties in San Diego. Now I travel around in my 1989 Corvette betting on the ponies and dabbling in the domain biz once again. I am have fun!
