In light of the recent situation with name gate '17. Will the bubble on short domains finally pop?

When or if the market does see a drop in the coming weeks/months, is this bad for all of us?

Will we see dumping or holding?

Your thoughts?

It's certainly possible. I suppose that depends on how serious and widespread the recent events actually are. Imo, it will likely depend on who ends up being caught and whether the uncaught perpetrators feel confident enough to continue the scheme. It will also depend on whether the platforms actually implement anything to prevent this. It will also depend on whether true investors (and end-users) will begin to rethink whether there was ever even half of the value of some of the types of domains they once thought were so "highly desired". Either way, it's beginning to be apparent that nearly half of this market is just smoke and mirrors and braggadocio, more than we could have ever imagined.

Just noticed LLLL.com "chips" started dipping below $1000 around the 13th/14th. Only a week ago. Trend is holding and growing.

If we start to see $800's next week we know where the prices are going.

From Namebio today:

yqrx.com 1,006 USD 2017-07-21 GoDaddy
xtjh.com 940 USD 2017-07-21 NameJet
glhd.com 933 USD 2017-07-21 NameJet
sxcr.com 925 USD 2017-07-21 NameJet
gcwr.com 910 USD 2017-07-21 NameJet
znmn.com 877 USD 2017-07-21 DropCatch

Barely hanging on....

GLHD is "english" premium, too.

Only bubble is the one based on the Chinese pump and dump scheme.

Short domains have been the most attractive and liquid domains for as long as I have been in the industry. Not going to change.

LLLL random letters selling for $1000? That's a bubble popping. I remember hand registering LLLL with only premium letters back in the day off the drop manually.

Also what is namegate?

Can you clarify what you mean by name gate 17. Most llll.com domain investors have held the domains for a decade, so a few years will not make a difference.

He is talking about "Shill gate".. I included a link in the post above yours.

It wont make a difference in the big picture. Prices on pigeonshit 4L.COMs will drop in short term. But not because of the shill gate thing, but because of the withdrawal of the principals behind the CHIP market, which carried all the non End User 4L.COMs value.

Doesn't matter if bubble bursts (I don't think there is a bubble for short domains)

But lets say this bubble bursts..then the solution is simple... just list ur domains on NJ at no reserve... wait for a few bids then start bidding on your domains also. If you have a brother or sister then ask them to get in on the action as well then you can bid on each others domains too. Seems thats how the "domain experts" do it :)

Yes "Shill Gate" is what I was referring too.

I guess a lot will depend on the rules set forth by NJ and others moving forward.

It all depends on the Chinese. I am out on my LLLL, sold too early, made an good ROI. IMO better investments elsewhere than short .com's.
Time will tell as always.

4L.com will always be strong...the crazy high prices (for now) should level off. IMO there are some good deals on 4L's out there now...if I had 20 grand sitting around I would be doing some bargain shopping!

Even to this day, I still don't understand the concept of CHIP and so I have bought none. I do like aeiouv when they are at the right place. For example, Vivo.com was sold to a Chinese company for $2.1m in 2016. It contains two "v", one "i" and one "o". So, I don't understand why aeiouv are undesirable.

If any bubble bursts I think it will be CHIPs
