Bidding on your own names at NameJet...?

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Once in awhile I see people bidding on their own domains at NJ. I would think it would be frowned upon.

Today's seems more obvious than normal. Or am I missing something here?

Airlinejobs.com owned by Andy Booth at Booth.com and high bidder is BQDNcom (James Booth).

3 bids down we see Boothcom as a bidder.

Same thing with MovieZone.com. Owned by Andy Booth in which he currently appears to be the high bidder.

High Bid: $2,475 USD by boothcom

They actually won their own domain airplanesforsale.com. Im guessing it didnt get as high as they wanted so needed to protect it.

Bidder Amount Date
bqdncom $2,001 7/17/2017 12:23 PM
boothcom $1,950 7/17/2017 12:23 PM

Ok, ignore this post if you happened to catch it. whois.com lied to me even though it said whois was updated 2 seconds ago or whatever

Anybody that wants to help audit / investe please PM or email IfTheyWontAuditWeWill@Gmail.com . (I have quite a bit of NameJet / WHOIS data - but lack NameJet bid histories)

I'm too data drunk to do this alone. Not saying I'm doing this alone as it's a communal effort. Just trying to do my part to keep up with the excellent work Michael is doing.

Thank you.

Them supposedly suspending accounts and not listing which accounts were suspended seems like a very poor attempt at trying to put a bandaid on two severed legs, just hoping we are all naive enough to shut up and forget this all ever happened.

The accused probably already got new alias and privacy for their future practices.

@BoothDomains

How many NameJet usernames do you have?

We assume BQDN is yours.

What about JamesB1989 - is that also yours?

Can anyone clarify how many NameJet usernames you're allowed to have? As evident by Olivers bot having it's own handle, it appears multiple handles is allowed?

This question isn't to insinuate anything. Just trying to gain an understanding. A directory of NJ users would really be helpful in this. Otherwise - there's a lot of questions.

Is NameJet bidder TwoTwo legit? I'm having a hard time pinpointing this username to one person. Assuming chinese but IDK. Just wanted to get some clarification given the usernames involved. I should note @BoothDomains used this as an example in this thread.

First and TwoTwo are Chinese auction houses. Bidders participate in auctions on different sites, and then those sites bid on NameJet. Sometimes the bidding on these other sites even eclipse the bidding on NJ, with the Chinese marketplace pocketing the difference.

Personally I think NJ should do away with this as well. There's no way they can police shill bidding if done through a large proxy like this, they don't know who the users are behind the bids. Or at least not let them participate in public auctions.

Someone who wants to shill their own names could just sign up on these Chinese marketplaces and bid away with no way for NJ to make the connection. Plus imagine your public auction closes for $10k on the Chinese marketplace, but only hits $5k on NJ, you only get $5k for your sale and the Chinese marketplace gets the rest of your profits.

Yes JamesB1989 is my old account. It has not been used in a long time. @Michael can check this account and I also request @Michael to check my BQDNcom account on Namejet and provide domains that I have bid on. I have never shill bidded. Once I started BQDN.com I created the BQDNcom account at NameJet to list names and buy names for my business. I am still having fingers pointed at me and I just want to clarify that I AM allowed to bid on any name I wish even if a family member owns it. The reason names get listed sometimes with sellers that have featured pages is because they get a slight commission deduction from the normal 15%. Please actually provide FACTS and show me where I have ever shill bidded because I haven't. I won AirplanesForSale.com and flipped it. I won AirlineJobs.com which I will keep. I am not going to keep repeating myself but just because me and Andy are brothers does not mean we are the same people. I have my own portfolio, he has his. So we do bid against each other sometimes like on MGP.com, JLZ.com etc. We have partnered on a few names like D8.com that is it. I have never owned any of the names that were listed for sale so I have every right to buy them if I want them. The fact that people are making accusations towards me without any facts is unfair and slanderous. Like I said please check my accounts.

If you see HDKN as a bidder today you can be assured that this account has made a bid is just below the reserve price. If you want the name and bid you will meet reserve. But its not natural and blatantly obvious. I know because there I’ve tested it (actually wanted one of the names)

On May 24th I wrote

in this post I wrote

These.com HDKN has a bid at $14,000 which lately has been a shill bidder that bids right below the reserve so my guess is the next bid meets reserve. Great name and worth the price in my opinion.

So what's the deal with this? Did the sale go through, or...?

Because it was listed again. I believe it was in Oliver's NameJet sellers account. Then promoted in NameJet Banner... (a new thought I had - Is it possible @andyboothsi wanted Oliver to list his domains so they would appear on the NameJet featured banner? ... or is the banner afforded to all great names closing soon?)

upload_2017-7-22_5-53-38.png

Maybe I'm missing something but why would HKDN be willing to pay $14,000 for These.com on May 21st, 2017, but only willing to pay $9,000 less than two months later? Has the market for dictionary words fallen that much ($5,000 or 36%)

I am still having fingers pointed at me

I don't think there's reason to point fingers at you. But like you said - you're open to being looked at so questions may arise.

Can you by chance help point the finger elsewhere? Certain areas / bidders that should be brought to NameJets attention. I'm not saying you know of any, just saying if you do, your efforts will be known as trying to fix the problem not just get yourself off the hook of nonfactual associatory allegations.

Facts are plain as day that there has been a shill bidding ring active on NameJet for many years.
Now all we have to do is find out who the major players are. There is little doubt that there are certain users with multiple aliases.
Who those individuals are is yet to be determined but one thing is for sure Namejet are in damage limitation mode only - full disclosure is the last thing NJ desire.

I don't mind questions being asked about me if they are constructive and factual like @Michael is doing. I just don't appreciate false accusations and (death) threats being sent to me. People calling me a scammer etc. A website being created making false accusations against me there too (shillgate.com). This is all slanderous. I don't know of anyone that is actually purposely shill bidding. I do agree that the HKDN account is suspicious though. I am happy to look at facts and I do not agree with shill bidding at all. Like I said I have never shill bidded on my own names and only bid on names that I actually want.

Mate, My advice will be to stop commenting further, Wait for a final response from Namejet to clarify everything with facts and in my humble opinion anyone Industry pro or not found to have bid on their own names on Namejet should be suspended from that platform mistake or not rules are rules lets not make a mockery of it. This whole situation is a mess/stinks/ mixed with confusion false accusations some facts and fairy tales trying to argue your innocence at this point is keeping this thread going wait for the facts and let the chips fall where they may. My opinion only.

I mean thats plain stupid! Isn't it? Yes you are allowed, but what about ethics? I mean you are also allowed to trade stocks between family members in stockmarket! But when they prove that you and your fanily member manipulated the price, sold stock back or gave money back to each other, thats criminal! I mean there are a lot things allowed in this world, but dose it mean we can forget ethics? I don't know about that.

I mean that coming from a golden boy who sold domains for $5.2 m in 12 months. Thats just sad

Plain stupid? Why would I want to manipulate the price when I am bidding to win? How does that make sense. The domains I won were charged instantly to my card. I then sold one of the names. Why would I want the price to be higher? Now that is stupid making an accusation like that. Just because we share a surname does not make our businesses the same does it. Whats sad is making false statements and accusations. Let's see what @NameJetGM has to say and @Michael about me.

Let's say one of the Winklelvoss brothers put say a house in an auction. The other brother thought well this seems like a good deal I will bid and win that house and puts it in his name and then sells it for a profit. Is that now allowed too or is that bad ethics although they own completely different properties and investments.

It's funny how just a week or two ago there were over 100 pages in namejet search with domain names with bids and now you get to around 70 pages and 0 bids start, that's about 1/3 of bids that are gone, mighty big cut of bids, must have been a whole lot of illegal bidders, sux that I decided to list some domains for sale around this whole saga

If Winklelvoss second brother and first brother had a deal, lets say. House owner said to second brother, hey this can't go for that cheap, bid on it and drive price up. I will pay your money back if you win. Then this is the problem.

Now if you say, you did not do anything like this, then i have to belive you! Because there is no evidence! And thats fine, i don't really care. But for most in this forum you will be the guy who maipulated prices at namejet. I don't know if your reputation means anything in domain business or not.

If you do this boardrline things - like bid on your brothers names. And then tell, that you are not that close, you don't speak to each other. You have different business! But who in right mind would belive you? Would you belive me?

I mean, if you bid on your brothers domains! I mean there will be always questions! Questions when you win it, questions when you don't win them

Since we are speaking hypothetically now . . .

If my brother were going to sell his home, I would buy it without an agent so I could buy it for less with no commissions. If my brother said, I think my home is worth 400k and there were "comps" supporting it . . . yes to purchase it for $250k is a great deal for me. It likely could be terrible for him. You know that much of the onlooking world would then we were in cahoots together.

I have no idea if you did what they say you did. But dont patronize us with why would you pay more. You pay more for some domains to set the market on other domains. Heck it sounds so organized I wouldnt be surprised to learn that blocks of domains got purchased on the cheap, and now a handful of domains are bid up like crazy to drive the prices. Over pay for a few. Drive price up. Flip other domains at new higher prices. Take a small loss on the few over paid domains after your flips are over. You get tax benefits from the losses. Plus those losses pale in comparison to those big gains . . . those big gains that wouldnt have ever happened without those overpaid prices/

Just saying . . . this is what it looks like.

if you really like your brothers domains! Call him! Make a deal! Don't bid in auction houses! My advice to you! For future, if someone want's to make deals with you!

You save on:
1) commission
2) better reputation
3) better relationship with brother

Maybe more

You are the 5.2m flip guy, I think you can agree on price between each other! No need for auction

And still if you see an brothers domain auctioned off, try to calm down!! Repeat after me" calm down Andy, calm down" there is more fish in sea - and simply don't bid! Can you do it? I know it can be hard! But try, first times you may not succeed and not bid! But you get there, I am sure

Namejet will never do that.

They say they have modified their system to prohibit sellers to bid on domains they have listed, but at the same time will continue to allow sellers to list domains they don't own.

Shill bidding will simply assume another form and continue as if nothing happened.
