Being a newbie, can I ask for your thoughts why there seems to be a huge difference sometimes between the valuations of GoDaddy and Estibot?

I typically have one domain that's valued by Estibot at $0 but is ranged at $178-$533 recommending $356 on GoDaddy.

How does that work guys?

Gar.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
The difference has got to do with algorithms/formulas they use to produce results and plus the fact that they really aren't very good at what they do anyway.

I suggest you take automatic appraisals with a pinch of salt, they don't have near the complexity and reasoning that human experts have.

As a general rule they can't handle pure brandables .eg 'estibot.com' which scores a $0 when searched on estibot.

Even end-users don't see value in valuable names.
Here is what you need to have valuable name:
1)Only .com
2)Only 1 max 2 word domain or 1 sort brandable "word" (See brandbucket)
3)LLL.com (now they are cheap, grab as much you can)
4)Never follow trends (gtlds, LLLL.com and similar shet).
That's all.

LLL now cheap huh? Guess it is all relative. I wish I had the cash to pick up several LLL names

I imagine estibot.com is by now under strong pressure from the 2018 newly updated and free godaddy appraisal tool popularity cutting into their sales. I like both services and more often than you would expect both values appear to be somewhat accurate imo, except on some names in misc categories like good acronyms and others. I believe the GD valuations seem to be better overall and free!

Both are a joke but I trust GoDaddy more for a baseline as they sell a lot of domains. Estibot is old school and undervalues almost everything.

I like that GoDaddy's tool provides you with some previous similar sales. However, that can also be dangerous because it could be a sale 10 years ago when prices were much lower.

I did a valuation recently and GoDaddy told me that a similar name - zen.com - had once sold for $1,500. That almost made me cry :xf.laugh:

Buying based on automated evaluations is just dumb. Filtering from high to low to find the better names makes sense. I see names all the time where the evaluations are way too high or way too low. A computerized evaluation cannot tell you what an end-user is willing to pay out of pocket for domain it can just make a guess

You wait for the price you want, or sale between the appraisal you trust most! In the end it depends on who's willing to buy for your price.

Here's a small sample of GD appraisals from a week or so ago. There are plenty more.

Why would I list domains anywhere that also makes a tool available that could potentially sabotage my sales with nonsense like this?

f.org - $13,792
457.com - $17,661
100.com more than $25,000

Im a bit thrown off - for morningstiffness.com estibot appraised $2900, but godaddy appraised $567. Which report is more reliable? I want to say godaddy but I am looking for a second opinion.
