As much information as you can include about the transaction is welcome, but at a bare minimum please include the domain name(s), the sale price, and whether you were the seller.

Good luck with your sales!

Buyers opening offer was $5780. My listed asking price was $5750 (offers only, no buy-it-now option).
I wouldn't normally counter but:
  • The offer was a tiny fraction above my asking price. A gesture for me that indicates the bidder has a desire to get the deal done fast.
  • Bidder was from Australia - and I'd recently read about an Australian fintech startup called Spaceship who took $1m of funding from Peter Thiel. (Although, it may not be them!)
  • Bidder had registered on Sedo in June 2017. Activity index scores were also null for buying and selling ratings. There was a probability they registered only to make an offer on this domain, so it signals as 'end-user'.
I took the risk and countered at $19750. Sedo Broker had reached out to me and said the buyer can do $7k maximum, else will pull out of negotiations. I gave it some thought and accepted. It was a little aggressive to counter in the first place, especially on an a good offer above asking price, so didn't feel right to push any harder.

Total time for negotiations was around 9 hours.

I believe you left some money on the table :) Nonetheless, good sale there bud!

Thank you! I agree that there was more room to move but I'm testing a slightly different strategy this year.
To use a cricket analogy: I'm no longer trying to hit a six on every ball. Just picking off the single runs wherever I can, then being more selective about when to go for boundaries. In practice, this means prioritising profits over maximum yield - all in the name of creating cashflow.

Thanks. I had started lowering prices to get some cash moving and left this where it was, mostly by luck.

Looks like the plural sold for $3,600 a week ago: https://namebio.com/traveltokens.com
Looks like the person they bought if from paid $1k. I was fortunate for my buy price, but probably left money on the table. It's OK, I'll take the good luck and quick flip. I didn't really know about travel tokens until I researched for the auction. I think that they are going to be a big thing in the future. Something like loading up a card (token) with air/hotel/event/park passes that you can use or gift. I don't really know how it would be different than just having online reservations for all of that, but probably easier to give as a prize or gift.

Flippa auction listing - Buyer met BIN
(Name was a "long-hold" that I actually picked up as part of a cash+trade deal on another name several years ago... So almost pure ROI on this one... Patience is a virtue! ;))

2 sales in the recent past

Domain: F/i/t/i/n/2/0/ dot com
Sale Price: $300
Sale Date: May, 2017
Purchase Price: $23 gd expired
Purchase Date: April, 2017
Listing Type: Outbound. Sold in 2-3 weeks after acquisition. When we both (Buyer and seller) agreed on $300 sale price I got 2 replies from very big fitness chains. They were very much interested in the domain name and were willing to pay a good amount but I honored the deal.
Actually i had a very quick deal with the buyer. I would say within 30 minutes we agreed on $300. I should have negotiated a bit longer i guess. Seems like i missed a low xxxx deal here. Anyhow I am happy with the sale. Learning a lot with every sale.

Domain: T/h/e/C/a/n/d/y/L/a/n/d dot com
Sale Price: $300
Sale Date: July, 2017
Purchase Price: $28 gd expired
Purchase Date: May, 2017
Listing Type: Outbound. In the first round the buyer read my email but didn't reply. In the followup (after almost a month) the buyer shown his interest and within few days we had a deal. Conclusion: Follow up is very important. It works.
