Bidding on your own names at NameJet...?

NameSilo
Watch
Once in awhile I see people bidding on their own domains at NJ. I would think it would be frowned upon.

Today's seems more obvious than normal. Or am I missing something here?

Airlinejobs.com owned by Andy Booth at Booth.com and high bidder is BQDNcom (James Booth).

3 bids down we see Boothcom as a bidder.

Same thing with MovieZone.com. Owned by Andy Booth in which he currently appears to be the high bidder.

High Bid: $2,475 USD by boothcom

They actually won their own domain airplanesforsale.com. Im guessing it didnt get as high as they wanted so needed to protect it.

Bidder Amount Date
bqdncom $2,001 7/17/2017 12:23 PM
boothcom $1,950 7/17/2017 12:23 PM

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
If it's true, shouldn't they be banned? That's wrong, especially for bidders!

That is some serious BS, if true.

I've only bid a couple of times on my auctions when i was new to Namejet and just bid the initial 69 to just "watch" the auction as i was unaware they give you a daily report.

It's sad to see someone bidding that high, if he would've just bid 69, i would resonate with that myself, but this just shows desperation. (If true ofcourse).

I actually put an early bid on that one. And of course you're right, you're not supposed to bid on your own auctions. It just seems odd since it's very easy to tell, why would you risk your account. And there are other auctions with the same kind of bidding. When you click the More Domains link -
http://www.namejet.com/Pages/Auctions/StandardDetails.aspx?auctionid=3955604

Need to hear from somebody at Namejet and the bidders to get their side.

It appears that BQDN likes to bid on BoothCom auctions that are no reserve.

Below screenshots are BoothCom auctions being bid on (collusion?) by BQDN @BoothDomains

Yes, if this is true, thus really bad.

Hopefully, they can come here & shed more light.

They should be run out of the industry man. You don't need these bad apples

The sad part is, to some, they are (were) considered industry leaders.

If WHOIS is accurate for those names, both Andy Booth and Jame Booth should be permanently banned from the NameJet platform. These sellers/brothers are openly driving up the prices for their own and each others domains with their phony bids.

People have been charged and convicted of fraud for eBay shill bidding. Doesn't NameJet have any methods for detecting this kind of collusion?

@webquest - Have you notified NameJet about this?

Ironically, NameJet is promoting three of these "BoothDomains" with questionable bids...

Come on guys.. How do you think all these "leaders" achieve overnight success?

@Grilled we just spoke about another well know example a few weeks back..

This sickens me man. We all work hard for our money and these guys are essentially stealing our money. I'm a bidder and I would not be happy if I knew the auctions I bid on were inflated!!

Hi all - Thanks for the heads-up. We are currently investigating this matter. We obviously do not condone any kind of shill bidding on NameJet, so we take this very seriously. I will post an update when I have one. Thanks again.

Actually, you will find they are listed by another seller. I moved these domains on. How is this disgraceful? James is bidding because he wants these names (formerly owned by me) at those prices. I am bidding on these names (formerly owned by me), because it's for a price I would buy it back for, IE for less than I let them go to begin with. It isn't shill bidding, as evidenced by buying AirplanesforSale.com. Find something better to complain about.

After a quick review of all domains for sale by (namejet user: BoothCom) HERE it appears BoothCom is brokering on NameJet domains owned by somebody else.

I thought maybe they were selling for someone else but first had the domains transferred to their accounts, thus the whois reflecting there info during the auction. After looking up whois history at DomainIQ I seen they owned several for years.

Airplanesforsale.com shows as owned by Andy Booth since 2013. The highest bidder was BQDNcom and 2nd highest was boothcom

bqdncom $2,001 7/17/2017 12:23 PM
boothcom $1,950 7/17/2017 12:23 PM

Soccerzone.com shows as being owned by Booth.com as early as 2011.

3rd highest bidder:

brunswick $1,710 7/17/2017 1:52 PM
toghrul $1,610 7/17/2017 1:50 PM
bqdncom $1,310 7/17/2017 12:46 PM

Note: I'm not accusing them of shill bidding but something seems off here...hopefully they can come clear this up. I spent a lot of time finding names to bid on and researching them only to see their names bidding against me.

@Grilled we just spoke about another well know example a few weeks back..

Well, the one you are talking about, achieved overnight success after working at Flippa, making a nice sale, appearing on DomainSherpa, calling out an industry giant, and helping countless on NamePros. Then one shady deal, and failure to correct it, lead to the apparent demise of this former pro's domaining career.

I don't know James or Andy Booth. I only read of their success in sales reports. The thing is, when other well known reputable domainers vouch for other domainers, it helps solidify their standings as top domainers...

Review from @TheLegendaryJP on How James Booth went from zero to... HERE
