anybody regularily run their own regging software or constructed something from api's say for example from Namesilo? Or own such packaged software? I regularily use the DC services but was thinking I might try on some niche names to run something that I can manually schedule at the time of the drop or close to it. I dont expect to compete with any of the services, just have noticed that buydomains seems to have something they run, and a guy from NYC regularily gets names, both appear to not use a service.

Not sure if anyone recently runs their own operation.

I have software I had written to parse expired names that Interest me, so I would like to batch process say like 5 names per day, and see what happens... if anything. Pm me if you dont want to post. Thanks.

Thanks! Looks cool. I saw ads for another package similar sometime before, but this looks better as multiple registries... Do you use this regularily? I notice they recommend the more expensive one of dynamic ip assignments as with most hosts. I am in a situation where ip changes maybe once a week, not sure what impact the ip change has, do you know what settings are effected? Appreciate the info.

Dynamic IP helps in ensuring that you don't get blocked or throttled by the registrar when trying to bombard them with requests for dropcatching. That's usually the biggest issue and it is also one of the reasons why most registrars limit the number of requests you can send to them in a short amount of time.

The flipside of this is that you cannot use the IP whitelisting feature provided by some registrars for their APIs. This is an additional security mechanism which ensures someone else cannot use your account for spurious orders.

Intersesting... Namesilo blocks me when I try to even use it just look at whois info during drop period. It was coincidental, so they must throttle too.

I can force an ip change daily and manually, so I guess I should just buy the lifetime one. Do you use this a lot? Just curious. I have been paying DC to secure names and do well usually, except when NSL grabs one. Appreciate the lead.

It's not just you. That's how their product is designed. You cannot perform whois for more than 5 domains at a time (to contain load is my guess).

Right now I don't as my old windows laptop frizzed and I haven't managed to set aside funds to purchase another one. And since my current primary laptop is my work laptop, I can't install parallels on it. The lifetime license is pretty good. I believe there's an offer right now for 25% off the list price...

Thanks @anantj and @Adam27 for letting the OP know about DesktopCatcher. @offthehandle if you're still looking for software then let me know and we can discuss more through PM. If your IP changes frequently you could also consider using a small VPS to host the software on. With that, your IP would never change.

If you think dropcatch is too expensive, you can try to use www.70ym.com.
The lowest price is only 52 rmb=$7.7 to catch a .com domains.
And if you choose 75 rmb= $11, it always beats dropcatch discount club.

desktopcatcher works well and the support is great, i only use it for some cctld, i dont use it anymore for gtld as i have a partnership with snapnames to use their service at lower price.

For the domains with less-competition, you can consider using DC. @FPForum does a nice job maintaining it. However for names with higher competition where they place orders at backorder services , you too would need to go for a dedicated backorder service to stand a chance.
