Hey, everyone.

Does having the .com and .net of a domain name both in your portfolio give extra value to it? Talking about a premium domain.

If it is truly a premium domain not a recent handreg then definitely. However you would have had to spend to acquire both and hence the .com alone may well have been a better investment. If you can reg the .net it ain't a premium

I paid for .net a couple of years of go just to have it. It's a 5 letter premium.

of course, i'd like to own sex com and sex net and insurance com and insurance net

that's common sense

but some other so-called premiums i might not want in .com or .net

depending on what they are

imo...

I did specify premium domains.

A 5L unless it's a word/Chinese meaning probably isn't premium. In terms of end user, being able to give the .net and .com can yield a better price, domainers are probably more interested in the .com unless it's a $XX,XXX plus domain in .com.

Same applies however that a company will probably not see the purpose in paying much extra for the .net if they are buying the .com hence spending on the .net may not have been worth it.

PM me the domain if you wish

I did specify premium domains.

lot of domainers use the word premium, in conjunction with promoting, advertising or just mentioning that they have one.

but, premium names speak for themselves.

imo...

You don't necessarily have to own the domain to talk about it. It's just a general discussion. Rather than talking about the actual topic we're just trying to establish if the domain is premium or not.

The arrogance is unbelievable in the domaining game. No wonder 99% fail.

Hi

if the domain is not premium, then is there really anything to discuss?

a .net domain, that is not premium, in general, wouldn't have any intrinsic value.

Hey, everyone.

Not really. Any premium buyer would be looking for the .com. They will not be considering the .net. The .net doesn't have much value (and they don't need it, except for maybe brand protection). I can't see them adding another premium price to the .com to additionally buy the .net. At best they might offer a price for both which includes the .net, when they really are only wanting the .com. In reality, you are probably looking at another buyer for the .net

Exception might be they are branding on the .net, so they will need the .com for brand protection.

I know this is answering a question you didn't ask. But I think a buyer is more likely to look for another .com rather than to settle for the .net. If they are really a premium domain buyer.

Having a premium domain name is always of value and if it is a .COM then the value is even higher. But the search engines treat all the TLDs alike. Thus having both .COM and .NET or that any other TLD with a premium domain name adds value to the portfolio.

Of course, the premium domain. Com & .net greatly affects the selling point

its very valuable to whoever has the .com to lock up their brand. it's also very valuable to the domainer who is selling the dot com to command a higher price yet.

I also think its valuable to have the org--- ideally all 3

I think the same.

So the question was: Does having both extensions increase the value of the domain? I'm surprised that some domainers said no. We all know that .com is the king but having all the major extensions will indeed enable you to ask for a better price. I learned this from a recent video of @DomainSherpa with @Ali and he said that he bought all major extensions of a premium vr domain because he wanted to ensure power over the keyword. Now, I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure those people know what they are talking about. That's all from me. Thank you for your input.

Premium or not, the two have nothing to do with each other, they are different extensions. It might be nice to have both, but not necessary. There used to be a school of thought that even owning the "Big 3" was vital for cornering traffic and sales. I don't think it matters anymore, as there are so many other, possibly better, alternatives now.

I don't think you need cars.com, cars.net, cars.org, in order get more money for cars.com. I also think most buyers of the .com, would not be so interested in paying more to own cars.net and cars, org. All buyers have budgets just like the rest of us. Even if they pay hundreds of millions for the .com. If they don't have any plans for the .net or .org. Why would they spend millions of dollars more on the .net and .org? What is needed to get the most of value for the .com, is a good business model generating good income, either real or planned. There. I've said it. I disagree with @Ali. I probably wouldn't call any VR domain premium either. But that's just me. Again :)

But I admire greatly, Ali's trajectory as a domainer. Something we all aspire to. But will sadly never achieve :(

To me, an established company would value a dot org more than a dot net for marketing, community, and sustainability reasons.

I always recommend to my client to own .com .net and .org and the rest is optional depending on their budget.

But you don't practice what you preach with QUE.COM. This provides conflicting answers to @Sirbigman's original question.
