The internet domain registrar and web hosting company is making it easier to search for and register available emoji-based domains. On Friday, the company launched a search engine for emoji domains. People can visit the site on their phones, type in a string of emoji and see if the domain is available.
As more of the world increasingly uses the internet on phones and other mobile devices, a flood of emoji-based domains seems inevitable. Heck, even the Touch Bar on Apple's new MacBook Pro will let you type in emoji, something that's difficult to do with a traditional computer keyboard...

Interesting to read the comments here. Lot's of misinformation. I will try to break it down, then you can come to your own conclusions. For the record, I own (car).ws.

-Emoji URLs are a security nightmare. Pictures (emojis) could be easily spoofed/hacked, hence the reason Godaddy isn't already selling emoji's in .com, etc. They are TRYING hard to push ICANN to change their stance (see below), but it's going to be awhile, boys and girls.

- The reason Godaddy is not selling these emoji IDN's is because ICANN controls it. ICANN is unlikely to approve emoji URLs until they are 100% sure they can mitigate the risks. WHICH ARE VERY REAL.

- THE ONLY REASON Website.ws can sell emoji URLs is because dot ws is not regulated by ICANN. Same with .LA. One of the only 2 registrars that can say that.

- SO .ws will be it for awhile. I've been at this since 1996. It took almost 15 years to get the dot whatever TLD's. My guess it won't take 15 years to get the emoji's in dot com, net, but it will be awhile. In Internet years it will be long enough. Voice is going to be how we do things in the future and hand movements (squiggly lines made by your finger).

- Emoji's sole purpose for (businesses) will be to market something. SO they do have value for the right business. Only buy 1 characters and in some cases 2 if you can get them. I bought (car).ws. soon after Coca Cola bought (smiley).ws because Car dealers might want to use it for the millennials. Personally I had forgotten I had it until someone just emailed me today to make an offer on it. $250. I turned it down flat. This is a wait and see game. The interesting thing though is interest is rising, and the only game in town (that really works) is dot ws.

That's it!

Good luck, hope the info helps you as an investor or buyer.
can .tv sell them?

What hosting companies work with emoji domains? I tried using my bluehost account, but they were unable to do it, something about the double hyphens in the punycode.

I just replied to another thread. Thought I would post the tip here, also.

On twitter, to get your emoji hyperlink in your profile bio, do the below. Don't use the punycode, use the emoji...

"http://http:// :xf.smile:.ws" (no quotes or spaces) use if you want to see the working hyperlink of 'http:// :xf.smile:.ws' (this works in the bio & tweets, but not in your profile website hyperlink)

Or

"http:// :xf.smile:.ws" (no quotes or spaces) if you want to see just the working hyperlink of ':xf.smile:.ws' (this works in the bio, tweets, and website hyperlink)

I use SiteGround, which hosts ♧.ws (and I use it to forward others emojis to other websites).

Very nice! Yours or you discovered?

Not mine, was made by Jon Roig, who made "❤️❤️❤️.ws" aka "i❤️.ws",
link about the creation: https://twitter.com/Emoji_Domains/status/876616972024152065

I've actually been looking around myself, seeing whats been in use, and there is actually a surprising number of things, with a few very clever combinations, for example, check out (edit, it won't let me directly post the emoji. try two of these: https://emojipedia.org/mans-shoe/ , with a .ws .)

I know that godaddy works with them (since they made that tool and all), but I've also seen emoji domains in use at name.com, can't comment on any other hosting sites unfortunately.

I think the ❤ is better, but it depends on the context... what is the end result?
❤Beer would be better than ⭐Beer.

The heart emoj URLs could be put to good use, My concern with the red emoji heart is that here are 2 emoji hearts on the iPhone keyboard, that's confusing!..

Agreed, that and different skin tones for the faces add up to a problem with this form of media

for a .ws crazy times maybe its a good time ?
The .ws registry would have had many drops after the chips explosion, many people went down the .ws road only to realise the "chips" craze was over, so they may gain a little but they did lose a heap of registrations over the last year I would suggest. These are also a "gamble" but in a visual world they have some merrit

Single or double emojis .ws to me have more staying power than a text word, so renewal rates should be higher than past .ws domains. There's little heart (yeah I went there) or soul to text. Since almost everyone has a cell phone, and probably on it longer than a computer, you're looking at a huge potential with emojis. You guys are all smart investors in domain assets/property, you all might at least consider buying an option for that possibility.

Until the critical mass get it they remain "stagnant" Hard enough telling folks what a normal domain is
You're waiting until they get to that point and buy them at that time?
