Yesterday the two-word .COM ScreenSaver.com sold for $25,099
I’ll be honest, when I first saw this I thought, “wow, that’s a steal of a deal for such a solid domain.” Then I took a minute to think about it. Who uses screensavers?
So my question is, did the buyer of Screensaver.com get a steal of a deal or is $25k a waste of money since there really is no money to be made with screensavers any more?..

screen recycling company as first guess or screen repairing service, any other suggestions for what this domain can use for?

Great name for a company selling product to protect cell phone screens.

Offer a load of "free" screensavers, and collect marketing info on the machines using them.

There was a company on Shark Tank named ScreenMend which is a product to fix holes in pool screen enclosures. This is a great name for a company like that since it's so easily remembered.

The obvious one though is tech device screen protectors which is a huge market.

Screen is a very broad term (not just computers) I am guessing the buyer already has a successful service running somewhere, so that may well be a very good long term investment.

I think it was an alright investment.

It isn't worth 25k, but at the same time sometimes domain names sell for more than they are worth... But most domain names never sell for even what they are worth.

Billions spent on marketing,
Multi millions to Billions spent on Employees.
Millions invested into startups (70%) that go bust.

What do you think they would value a name (i know domains are not an actual trademark).
But it is a big chunk of there business can turn out to be as (I haven't researched the numbers yet) but the majority of the sales are online.

Us domainers might be biased towards domain names (It's natural) but the stats and comps show that owning the .com might not revive you if you don't have the right product or people to support that, but it definitely does help the memorability and that plays a huge role if you're looking to make it big. (Marketing of the .com's and 1st to market)

Psychology is imo the biggest part of not just business but any part of life. If you've been in domaning for a decent amount of time you might already know there are three parts to a business branding strategy(When you realise you are growing).

1- Psychology (Biggest part) (.com doesn't make any sense but so did none of the words if we didn't have language) ii (Why is english the most used language worldwide, why isn't spanish or any other language).

2- The Brand (Remembrance based on what you hear everyday)

3-(This applies to number 2) Remembrance

I know all 3 are interconnected, but when our industry understands this, specially at this early stage (Just been a couple of decades) they won't be doubting themselves everyday about what assets they hold.

Everything you invest in has risk, but if you have that mindset, and think about the negatives rather than the positives, that will never get you where you want to be (Financially).
Sorry for such a long post but the last thing is PATIENCE. I cannot comment on that much as that's the thing i lack.

Lastly i'm sorry if the majority of you couldn't understand this post as i'm not a native English speaker and being under a little bit of influence i know i might have posted this in the wrong thread.

The only way a person is going to make money in the domain business, is either if they got into the domain business before 1999, and have good names, or have money to spend on them, and can get liquid names at a decent price, or they are crafty and can hand register decent names, that are worth hundreded, or even thousands of dollars, and are willing to sell them at a heart breaking discount, for about $20 each.

But the domain is parked for sale presently

Buyer has taken a decision. Why do we worry ourselves?

Still plenty of sites offering screensavers - what are now called wallpapers or backgrounds. Probably a great way to load malware.

Live site: https://www.screensavers.com/

Try googling screensaver - lot of sites come up with screensaver in the domain name.

Domain worth is , what someone want to pay . So this is not big deal in this industry . So we can take example of some .mobi names .
