Had a small sale:

Domain Name: smttn.com
Sale Venue: GD Listings
Sale Price: $125
Purchase Price: Hand Reg for $4.90
Time: 20 Days from initial contact to payment

So this was slightly interesting for me. The domain originally expired and I was planning to drop it. While it was in RGP, I received an offer of $20. Now I wasn't planning to extract the domain from the previous registrar for a mere $5 profit (GD Min fees is $15) and factoring in my purchase price, I'd actually earn nothing. So with nothing to lose, countered it with a $299. The buyer reverted with a $125 counter to my counter which I accepted. I wasn't out of the woods yet as 28 days of the RGP had already passed. So I called the previous registrar and asked them to allow a transfer. They demanded a $50 restoration fee to do that. Fortunately, showing them the ICANN rules made them see sense and they restored the domain without any charge. It took over a week for the domain to be transferred and confirmed by GD support and another week for payment to finally hit.

Phew.. Sorry for the long story but this was an interesting experience and a nice profit where I was going to suffer a small loss. Thank you for reading through :) :)

Ps. After GD fees, I should have received $100 but I only received $95. No idea where the $5 disappeared :-/

Seller: Me
Asking price: $50

Woowhoo, this is my first auction sale! I marketed this domain a while back and not much interest. I wanted it gone so I priced it to get rid of it. My model is to fast flip either by end user or auction.

I woke up this morning to find a BIN sale.

Lone / Begal / .com $475

From my landing page

Reg Fee on the drop in January

Domain name: Y*o*g*a*T*r*a*d*e*r.com
Domain industry: Health
Sale venue: Private inbound inquiry through Parkingcrew and completed in Payoneer Escrow
Seller: Me
Asking price: $1,000
Sale price: $750
Purchase price: Reg Fee+renewal (total cost less than $20).

$1,000 offer received, immediately accepted and started Escrow. Buyer replied he needs consultation from his partner and asked to decrease price to $500. Agreed on $750. I was happy to sale even if I received $100 offer, so good sale.

Lesson: Always counter, if you accept straight away, buyer will think they've made a high offer and will back down from their offer.

It's always good to counter otherwise price might drop along the line. I have experienced the same
If not counter, balk at the offer or if planning to accept first say you will talk the offer over with partner..etc. Sometimes it's good to add a stipulation like accepting the offer only if they pay the escrow fees or something else creative.

That's another good point bro. You can as well say. "I would have asked for more but you caught me". It's funny but works

Wow! But can you imagine! That is why the adage says, every disappointment is a blessing in disguise.

Congrats and cheers.

nice!
even more so great for you that buyers and visitors just trust a paypal payment button on a forsale page.. I don't think this happens for all domain sellers.. credible/professional website design may contribute to that.. so more power to you. may I ask out of curiosity from your past sales, what is the highest sale that someone just clicked the paypal bin button and paid on your site directly?

and when paid via paypal in this way, do you ever have concerns or take special precautions after sale, to ensure no issues like chargebacks via paypal etc?

thanks! I ask cause I thought of setting up some paypal bin buttons too for my landers.

cheers.

The highest was $2,400 and that was the first one since Paypal was an option. I was nervous on that one. The Efty landing pages are not "fast transfer" so I have communication with the Buyer to complete the sale. Of course there is some nervousness about paypal chargebacks, but I want to make the purchase as easy as possible for the buyer. If it is a name that I have a substantial investment in, I will change the BIN to Escrow.com.

I was losing to many sales using Escrow.com because of fee resistance and proof of identity issues. I am just applying a principal I use in my business life. "Don't inconvenience 95% of your customers because of the 5% who want to take advantage of you"

That's a really good point, and something I've been considering as well. With Afternic landers, I'm curious how many potential buyers walk after seeing the signup prompt...

Sold:

AR Multiplayer (.com)

Purchase Price: £1 (10 months ago)

Sale Price: $100

Buyer contacted me asking how much directly through whois email. I was going to let this one drop in the next couple of months so went back with a $100 BIN.

Could have probably got more due to the buzz around augmented reality at the moment but didn't want to get too greedy on a name I was about to let drop.
