Wrong.

I post on NP to provide value to its users.
Your only luck was that some of the admin's are BB supporters, but I have a feeling that your luck is going to end.

Providing perks to to sellers isn't something new. Do you think to seekers on Afternic, Godaddy or Sedo don't get special treatment? I'm surprised that other sellers here would be surprised. There's nothing inherently wrong with taking care of your best customers or suppliers.

I was only making this point as some of the most vocal supporters failed to disclose that they receive special treatment. That said, I was never ever asked to support or provide positive feedback, just in case anyone thinks I'm inferring anything untoward here.

There's very little transparency, and I think this is part of the culture at Brandbucket at all levels. It's part and parcel of brandable marketplaces perhaps - most prominently displayed by their desire to have buyers think the marketplace owns all the inventory they list.

I've no idea what you do or don't get, but you most certainly are not one of the top sellers I'm referring to. Sorry.

You said 'vocal supporters' not 'top sellers'.

Brandworthy is only speculating. He has given zero evidence.

So are you. Unless you're a recipient of the perks, you would not necessarily know for certain that there ARE perks (hence my qualifier about the "rumoured" perks)

Last time I checked my account was in the top 3% of sellers (which I find somewhat strange considering my small portfolio size), but as long as I have been selling with them I was never offered any kinds of perks despite selling well, my price adjustment requests were rejected, and the last time I contacted their management my email was not responded to. The only thing my account has gotten is a "bad standing" handicap, as a result of not breaking any of their rules (prior to those rules being announced), just because they made poor business decisions and decided to make their sellers pay for it, and as a result I do not even have access to the stuff any regular seller has access too. I do not find BB to give their "top" sellers any perks or special treatment at all, so that description does not match my own experience selling with them.

Thanks for sharing.

What year did you open an account with them?

Purely speculation here, but I believe most of the special perks were given to large domain holders in the early days of BB. ie Mass acceptances, and heavily discounted listing fee's, (some free due to voting credits).

Not sure what perks come with a positive relationship with bb anymore, but I believe they (people with insider relations) have the upper hand to having price increases approved, which in turn effect search rankings resulting in higher customer visibility. Not sure anybody has used this to manipulate the reseller market though (thankfully as there was once a time paying 3% accepted price was the norm for reseller market)

I started selling with them in early 2015 and actively added names until late summer/fall 2016.

Not getting perks was never a big problem for me though, and I'd much rather EVERYONE operate on a level playing field (due to the makeup of the marketplace search), especially the management team, as they can too easily abuse the system otherwise. When I was adding names, MK and Margot listed hundreds, if not thousands, of low quality names that did broke with BB's guidelines and would not have been accepted if submitted by a regular seller, while better quality names submitted by regular sellers were often rejected. I think their actions in this aspect showed a disregard for regular sellers who were serious about building a BB portfolio.

And later, they instituted penalties for sellers who broke certain new rules before they created them! Imagine if NP said that bumping a thread is now banned, and then restricted every NP member who bumped a thread in 2003-2016, before they made the rule about it... And while they ludicrously held their sellers "accountable" for actions that they themselves seemed to encourage before, such as the reseller market (I always thought it was a bad idea to allow it in the first place) or removing accepted domains from the to do list, after they realized they had mismanaged the marketplace, they did not hold themselves accountable for various marketplace problems. That was an unwarranted shift of blame toward their sellers, for problems they themselves brought about.

So rather than regular or top sellers getting or not getting perks, I think the management giving themselves too many perks and being negligent with it has been the bigger issue at BB, perks-wise.

Interesting to read that, but I think perhaps you were too late to the game coming along in late 2016. That said you've done very well to get to top 3% in such a short period. I presume you've sold lots of higher priced names there?

Price adjustments I had never considered to be a perk, and in fairness to them they facilitated me doing this in bulk outside of their current interface. I think portfolio size had a larger bearing on a seller's standing than portfolio value - for BB it was always about expanding inventory, and higher quality only came back into vogue this year (lower commissions for high value names).

Just to clarify, I actively added names between 2015 to fall 2016.

I think it's more due to a high sell-through rate, as I certainly don't have a premium name portfolio with them (the kinds of names they promote under "PREMIUM NAMES" on their homepage). My names listed with them are in the average of $2500, and average sales price is $3500.

Are you for real? I was a recipient of these perks.
Well my interest is peaked. You stopped adding names not long after the voting system stopped so I'm guessing you didn't get free listing perks when they were trying to recruit you as an ambassador, so you must have had something else. What?

In May you said
It's widely known that insiders have/had more control over some of those factors than regular sellers, e.g. it was previously the case that insiders set their own pricing, and their pricing (IMO) was often far higher than accepted prices set for regular sellers. I think this should have been expected since we all suffer from internal bias, and frequently believe our names are worth more than they are. So self-set prices being higher than normal is quite normal behaviour, but I do think it was a mistake allowing BB insiders to set their own pricing.

I didn't know that. Who was it widely known by? So I'm guessing your perk was you were allowed to set your own pricing?

I asked Keith outright if he sets his own pricing and he told me that he submits his domains and gets them approved/rejected just like everyone else, and the pricing is set by BB. So if Keith (BB Ambassador) doesn't get this, who are you suggesting does?

Or was this something that was in place years ago that no longer exists?

Unsubstantiated - unless he can produce facts.

I'm guessing this was probably in place way back when Andrew Rice / Free Votes / Affiliate Program / Etc and is no longer in place. I don't think @Brandworthy is intentionally lying, just guessing incorrectly.

My Year 1 with BB = $49,000. <--Click the link!
That post was a year ago, almost to the day. Impressive results, nice sum up (y)
Care to share results and reflections of this year with BB?

@JimJammy - I'd also be interested in knowing more about your more recent BB experience, especially over the past six months. Any notable changes in sales? You hold one of the largest BB portfolios and still seem very positive towards the bb marketplace value proposition. What makes BB great in 2017? Has the inventory growth and marketplace changes over the past year had a positive or negative impact on your sell through?

I'm not saying he is lying. He just hasn't stated any facts.

I did not make substantial use of their voting system as my time was more valuable to me than the listing fees.

Most people who followed knew that insiders fit a long time had their names pass through an alternative process which allowed them to list what they wanted at whatever price they wanted.
I asked Keith outright if he sets his own pricing and he told me that he submits his domains and gets them approved/rejected just like everyone else, and the pricing is set by BB. So if Keith (BB Ambassador) doesn't get this, who are you suggesting does?
Present tense. The alternative prices was dropped when enough sellers kicked up.

What's a fact? Please let me know if I've misstated anything here, and feel free to highlight anything I've said which you can disprove.

My sell through rate is pretty poor compared to most (last year and this year). I'm averaging just over a sale a month. Financially, I'm about the same. I would say my sales rate has slightly dropped but the sale price of my domains has increased. The average price I pay for a domain is $22 (some regfee up to $50) so I wouldn't expect to have the same sales rate as someone that is listing quality domains. I think I do a much better job of selling my rejects than most and that bolsters up my brandable earnings.

I also have a completely different strategy (nothing to do with BB) for my day to day domaining and I tend to find that one covers the other during lean spells.

Yep, I did $49K in my first year of brandable domaining and I've smashed that this year (end-June to end-June). All withdrawn funds went straight into my mortgage. My sale of Wemmo.com on BB was the game changer for me as that was the final payment on my mortgage! I'm now mortgage free and a full time domainer. I will detail it all out when I get a chance.

I know BB isn't for everyone, but I'm really glad I found this opportunity.

FYI: https://www.namepros.com/threads/brandbucket-experience.793278/page-50#post-4858636

That doesn't give the full context, but the parallel listing process for insiders was discussed in this very thread by BB representatives, so this isn't some sort of conspiracy theory on my part. What that particular post didn't describe in any detail was the "Once accepted" part - insiders had the ability to accept their own names at the price they wanted, so "acceptance" in this case was probably not a very good description of what was happening.

As I stated above, this process was reverted to the regular submission funnel once enough people started complaining. This is all water under the bridge, but I feel it's worth bringing it up since you've come over here from Slack to question my comments.
just guessing incorrectly.
I'm honestly not sure what you think I'm guessing about?

Facts are that 10-20 BB sellers own 50%-80% of the names shown in the searches in the first pages, for the main keywords and the other 10k or so sellers, the rest of 20%-30%, so these can be named perks as well. Of course it's much easier to make sales when you have names constantly showing up in the first pages. Nobody is saying that BB is not good for anybody, but it's great if have names featured in the first pages, otherwise you have much better sale through rate at other marketplaces like afternic, godaddy and even some have better sales at flippa.

I own a few keyword names on BB. Majority of these names are listed on the first page of the search results for their respective keyword. This has nothing to do with perks. It is because my names directly match the keyword that is being searched. To suggest that top sellers dominate the search results is an exaggeration...because I have proven otherwise.
