Hi,

So this person contacted me regarding a domain he accidentally let expire and it was sold on pre release auction in namejet for $1.5K. The domain was sold 7 days ago and is still in auction lock on enom.com.

I have sold several domains to this person in past and he is asking me if it's possible to get the domain back other than buying from the new owner?

I'm not the one who purchased the domain.

He can't. Pay or wait til it drops.

Maybe he has received an offer, and wants it back to sell?

Unless he has a trademark, no. He will have to bite the bullet and buy it from the new owner. If the domain is not worth the price, he will have to rebrand for a new domain.

If it's past the redemption grace period there is nothing that can be done.
Pre-release domains come from many sources but it sounds like he's waited too long.

Still, check the whois for the current status and have him contact the registrar and check if it's available for redemption. Can't hurt.

Sounds to me like he is looking to you for advice.
As a domainer there can only be one response.....

The domain is sold and had a solid bid. Contact the new owner and offer him a reasonable profit to reclaim the domain.

If I bought the domain and another domainer gave out advice on how to steal it from me I would be pretty annoyed.

Agreed. The only option left for him is to contact the original owner. I have provided him the details and it's really upto him.
