video FakeNews.com's Broker Gets TV Air Time

Spaceship Spaceship
"Fake news" is a term that has become extremely popular over the last few months, thanks in no small part to President Trump. Fake news has become a catch-all phrase for the President's distrust of many mainstream media outlets, and has been mentioned by the President in numerous tweets and live TV appearances.

President Trump has popularised the term "fake news"
As you might expect, the exact match domain name FakeNews.com is getting a lot of attention. When a phrase becomes this popular, the value of the exact match domain typically increases. This is exactly what has happened here with FakeNews.com.

After receiving many enquiries, the owner of the domain FakeNews.com, George Bacon, employed the services of a domain broker, Dan Sanchez (@DanSanchez) of NameAlpha, to help sell this domain that was acquired for $250 twelve years ago.

Yesterday, Dan was featured on ABC 10 in California, where he spoke about the domain name in a short interview with Robert Santos of 10News, which is included in full below.

Dan has revealed that there are "hundreds" of offers on the table for FakeNews.com. On a daily basis, between three and twenty requests via the FakeNews.com website.

Dan also revealed that just a couple of days ago an offer of $75,000 was received, with more than ten six-figure offers. With anywhere between four hundred and a thousand views per day, FakeNews.com is certainly attracting interest.

According to Dan, it's likely that the domain will sell within the next couple of months.

Here is ABC 10's report in full.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I almost bought FakeNews.com back in 2007 but I had to help my mom pay rent, cable and the electric bill, then I bought a mountain bike before I started saving for a Chevy Blazer. GOD DAMMIT!!!!

I bought the Aussie way of saying fake news - Bullsheet.news and Bullsheetnews.com just for something different.

No one looks for fake news.

Fake news is either real news that dumb people disagree with because other dumb said so and collectively they feel they can't ALL be wrong....or it's actual fake news that is made to alter people's perception of reality and it works because it's not called "fake news" but is passed off as "real news".

So why would you ever got to FakeNews.com? To actively read fake news? Because you mindlessly type in fake news and don't expect Google to throw back a political quote from the "real news"?

The value = natural traffic value of total morons on a trend term.
If that's mid six-figures? Good luck to the idiot that paid it and hope they get their money's worth before a concerted effort is underway to eradicate overly fake news (yeah, like that's going to happen) .. I suspect that most of this is Bullsheet news....

God knows what people think real news would be worth.

I bet before that we see a whole lot of stories around this name about low prices, dirty deals, debts, the name being secretly mortgaged or held by creditors or the Russian Mafia... all of them fake news put out by someone to drive the price down.

I'd rather suppose the opposite where we talk of traffic, value, advertising and long term benefits, EMD on a Huuuuge term.... all fake news put out to artificially raise the price above what it's reasonably worth. It's heading in that way already, no? What with their 100 offers some low and some mid six-figures.... One of those were allegedly my Russian friends at Namepros using spoofed emails...

Fake News is a new term but for a very old thing.
Fake news is a term of the present but also of the future: in the Trump era but also after the Trump era.

Fantastic for a fact checking site. I have investigatehillary.com and I was told it'll never sell because no one has a death wish :(

Contrats on the uptick on this buzz word that's going to be around for a long time.

FakeNews.com is fantastic for satire site too...
I also believe that all the big mainstream media companies want to own fakenews.com to protect themselves.
For example Estibot value for News.com = $5.5M
So I think that FakeNews.com has a lot of value: 7 figures

That's fake news. Most Estibot values are :xf.wink:

Best,

Yes Agree but what is the value for News.com for you?
For me $5.5M is not far from the reality...

In the 90s maybe. I'll chuck in a ballpark figure of 1/5th - 1/4th of that.

At a push :wacky:

Any updates on the possible sale of FakeNews.com? Has it lost momentum or is it more valuable now?

Type-in traffic has remained steady with a few spikes, and working with 2 more buyers now than at the end of February. We're really close to getting our ultimate number.

Meanwhile I've enjoyed the continued trolls and memes.

The infamous Remy doing work about Fake News

Or is this old news?

Funny thing is, both sides are using this buzz word to attack each other. CNN has been one of the worst offenders, while also reporting on things in a slanted way. But I did not vote for either wannabe puppet master.
