Honestly, I am at a loss for words. This domain that sold, sold on the GoDaddy Premium Listings. It isn't enough money to get excited about. It was more than I paid! And once payment goes through Ill share the domain name. For those of you that have seen my domains . . . Lets put it this way, you all hated it. I liked it and thought it was creative . . . until I came here. And honestly, I wouldnt reg it again, so this isn't I told you so. no this is I am so relieved. And if I am indeed learning, and get out of the red, maybe just maybe there is some hope for me!

Congrats on the sales. Domain quality - having a domain name a business will want to brand on is one thing. Pricing is another key part of the equation which can be challenging. Most end users do not place much value on domain names. Why pay hundreds or thousands for a domain name when you can register one for $10? Yet as a financial professional who sees invoices for five and six figures on a regular basis, what is the big deal about a business spending $5k to promote their business? Regardless of TLD, domain length, keyword search volume, etc, sales are the key to any business. Of course to be profitable sales have to exceed costs so you need to be a hawk on the expense side as well.

The one thing i find is the portfolio grows out of a manageable level just keep your numbers turning and you will be okay otherwise spend too much time analyzing own stuff too long before can make decisions. Adult domains are the toughest sell right now so well done.

The saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" applies to domains as well...

Most people like to invest in what's 'conventionally attractive', but every now and then someone adopts an ugly dog. Haha

Congrats.

@Want2learn Congratulations! This is your first post that I have read to be honest. I like your attitude. I only began trading domains as recently as last year and I made quite a few mistakes. One thing I can say is that this community has helped me learn and grow. I have been slowly selling more domains and making a better profit thanks to NP. From what I can tell you're doing better than most new domainers. I hope you continue to succeed :-D

Thank you! I have made a whole lot of not terrible, but tuuuuurible domain purchases! I like that most of the people here are good people!! They seem to care about the business, and want to help one another out. I have taken my fair share of constructive criticism, but it has been a positive. I appreciate the well wishes! I hope you do well in your endeavors as well.

What sells is funny right? There is no way in a million years would I have thought these domains would be first 6 to sell . . . the community would agree;)

So this is what I have sold thus far:

LoveSmiled.com
112358132134.com
AreYouLoved.com
GetThc.Online
GotBought.Com
f*ckHerNow.com

I think the consensus would have been GetThc.Online is the best name, but dot online hurts it. I like it a lot!
Unless you are into numbers and math, you look at my crazy numbers and think how did that sell? It is the Fibonacci Sequence!

This is my last week of school coming up. I fly to Vegas for a week, and when I return I am going to be a domaining mad man! Not buying or hand regging:) No I will be on an outbound campaign. I will be reading and conversing here. I will be brainstorming. I will be strategizing! I will do several things with my domains! Obviously I have them on a spreadsheet. It only tells a partial story. Now I want to organize domains by age, original registration, deletions, transfers, registries, category, cost, sales history if there is any, market trends if I can figure them out, and renewal/expiration dates.

There was a guy earlier in week here who had RehabsInOhio.com, and I am using this for illustrative purposes only! Value was some what limited iirc, but I suggested RehabSinOhio as a potential target. He didn't say this, and inferring via web is tricky, but imo he thought I was nuts. Like Rehab in Ohio was a slam dunk and I was messing it up. I know, what does this have to do with Want2learn? :) I also want to go through my portfolio and see what I can cross reference with other industries? Take AreYouLoved.com for example . . . We have the on the surface meaning, are you loved? But do we mean: I am a private investigator and I will see whether your spouse is cheating to answer the question are you loved? Maybe I am a counselor looking to help you. Scratch that, maybe an adoption agency. Nah, how about a dating site? Forget it then, Ill start a network for parents dealing with unruly kids. No? Fine I will be a consulting firm that will help your brand so you can figure out how your customers will love you better! I think I could keep going and going and going. I think inherently this is the sweet spot of where I am simply different than many domainers here. Not better. Not worse. Different.

Okay I am getting long winded, so I zip it:)

Your best domain is the last of these you just sold lol

Its a self explanatory 3 word dot com

Obviously consensually tho lol

But it put a smile on my face lol

But more importantly you are making sales and pulling your portfolio out of the red and no doubt you will soon have a profitable portfolio which is what everyone wants initially with the big sales later on being the icing on the cake

There seems to be an element of luck in domain sales. Some people make their own luck.

I agree with this. I do not have the quality of names that I can just sit back and wait for offers to roll in! I think being active and visible in multiple market places can be helpful, especially at my price point!

Excluding LLLL.coms, these are the better ones, imho:

weightt
denylies
eyecomplication
gr8k
diirections
tenef
specificlearningdisability

that is out of almost 300 names. Assuming 20 similar sales almost at cost, you probably end up with about $2000 loss once you write them off minus tax deduction of $300-600 depending on your income, other deductions etc.

Thank you for the feedback. I am surprised at the domains that you thought were better. Just today, while kids were taking a test, I organized my domains into these categories:

1. I like these domains a lot. I am not actively trying to sell them as I think their future opportunities are worth holding onto! I would renew then and renew them if top offer doesn't come. I will sell them at the right price, not just to move them. I would say I am planning to hold these. I am not mentioning any 4L, it goes without saying that they are in my top tier! Here are a few examples . . .
mainstreetguns.com- 2nd amendment groups like the NRA have lots of money. Americans love their guns. Main Street is a popular street name in the US.
profundstartup.com- I have a difference of opinion on this one. I think it is solid. Time will tell. Funding start ups is huge money. Honestly when @Silentptnr posted the staggering amounts of capital a few recent start ups raised, I was blown away. I had no idea it was as big as it was.
notontilt.com- Online poker in the US will help this. There is a guy on Twitter with this moniker, but he wasn't interested:( The idea of being on tilt to not on tilt is as central to poker as end users are to domainers.
I haven't gotten much love from NP with any of these 3.

2. This is a category that I like. Alot even! I want to sell these, and am trying to determine the best course of action. They could move into my top tier or drop depending on market conditions. I don't want to give these away, and would not let them just expire. Here are a few examples:
snanky.com
usnightlynews.com
gradualist.com

3. These are domains I do like. Domains that have some upside. Domains I want to move asap! A few examples:
fuck.training extension hurts, but which word is the noun and which is the verb or are they both verbs?
iimpeachtrump.com time sensitive
potterminal.com place to buy it!

4. What was I thinking? Trademark concerns. Would love to sell. Will not renew.
findyourhonda.com
kateperrysays.com
bun7.com

Avoid 3, 4 word domains unless it is absolutely good ones like HomeMortgageRates, FreeCreditScore etc. or something you are specialist in like SLD...

While ProFund is good, StartupFund is great, ProFundStartup is near meaningless. Even ProStartupFund is better, but still you have better options. So, if you start with thumb of rule "I don't register 3 words until I have established myself and am making money on domains", you'll save yourself lots of losses.

You'd eliminate names like findyourhonda, kateperrysays etc.

Avoid LLL+N, N+LLL etc. unless it is meaningful. I generally like gr8, so that is why I said that one is ok, but others might think that is not worth either. You can get thousands of those reg fee so buying and holding them is not worth, because buyer has so many alternatives. If a client really needed bun with number, he can go N+bun, bun+N with 20 options

With 2 word domains, don't modify words. iimpeach might be ok, iimpeach+word is worthless definitely. It has to be exact correct combo of dictionary words in meaningful order.

Thank you! I hope to avoid the 3 word and NL combo type domains going forward!!! I hope that ProFundStartup does a lot better than expected!!
