BrandPa.com has announced their presence on NamePros...
Hi there! I'm sorry your experience with BB wasn't pleasant :/ If you'd like to try our marketplace please don't hesitate to do so :) We're new in the domaining industry but very eager to learn! Let me know what you think or if you have any questions :) This is us: https://brandpa.com/ (or if you'd like to read about the sellers' rules visit this page: https://brandpa.com/start-selling)

Look forward to hearing from you!
Granted, the above post is from the BrandBucket experience thread, and will likely be deleted for being off topic / wrong thread, it was the first time I heard of them. The founder, @Jowita Emberton, had introduced herself in an earlier thread:

Hi guys! NamePros is a great website to get invaluable information about the domaining industry. As a reader, I'm here pretty much every day. As a writer, I'm starting today :)

I'm the founder of Brandpa (brandpa.com), a domain name marketplace similar to BB, BR or Namerific. We use AI and human knowledge to create and judge the names’ value according to how easy to pronounce and catchy they are.

I'm here to learn, get to know you and your recent experiences with other brandable name marketplaces :) We're still developing the business so any insight on our site (brandpa.com) or anything you're missing from other marketplaces will be very useful :)

Thanks!

I'm creating this thread to discuss their marketplace, and for those who have experiences with them.

Here's what I know so far:

The founder, @Jowita Emberton, runs two other online businesses according to her LinkedIn page.

Delighten.co.uk - Web / brand design firm.

Weddination.com - Polish wedding services

According to her LinkedIn, she has been operating BrandPa since August 2016. Though, the last cached Archive.org screenshot is a server error on October 4, 2016 HERE

BrandPa.com (2006) is registered to Oliver Emberton, founder and managing director of SilkTide.com.

Currently, there are 562 domains published / listed on BrandPa. It appears most domains listed are handregged by the owners. Not 100% on this; I will run a check when my program is working again.

After reviewing their listings, I found two errors.

upload_2017-2-20_14-26-8.png The domain regged is MonoRaptor.com, but the text reads ManoRaptor.com

upload_2017-2-20_14-27-32.png The domain regged is UnknownVenues.com, but the text reads UnknownVenus.com

At first look:

Pros
  • No Listing Fee
  • FREE Logos
  • Domain Owner sets price ($1,000+)
  • Forwards all offers for sellers consideration
  • Brandpa is a pretty memorable / catchy brandable domain.
  • Select 'On-Sale' marketing section
upload_2017-2-20_14-34-49.png

Cons
  • Low Alexa Ranking (4,557,819)
upload_2017-2-20_14-36-32.png
  • New site. Assuming low organic traffic, and low type-in traffic due to quality and quantity of inventory.
  • Piggy-back branding off BrandBucket in site footer see below
upload_2017-2-20_14-45-31.png

upload_2017-2-20_14-41-42.pngupload_2017-2-20_14-42-20.pngupload_2017-2-20_14-43-14.png upload_2017-2-20_14-43-54.png

  • Reviews are all from .co.uk domains, yet BrandPa doesn't sell any .co.uk domains. A quick glance at other domains owned by the reviewers and I wasn't able to verify any brandable .com's with history tracing back to BrandPa.
upload_2017-2-20_15-10-41.png

Personal thoughts: I respect that they "allow the seller to submit more domain names" by not charging a listing fee. To me this shows they are willing to work for your exclusivity. Should they gain popularity, I wonder if they'll sustain this business model and/or if their logo / listing quality will decrease over time when resources are spread across the masses.

@Jowita Emberton = Feel free to comment / fill in any of the blanks. :penguin:

Wow this is impressive @Grilled! Thanks :) Let me comment on a few things:

1. "A quick glance at other domains owned by the reviewers and I wasn't able to verify any brandable .com's with history tracing back to BrandPa … Reviews are all from .co.uk domains, yet BrandPa doesn't sell any .co.uk domains"

That's right. My husband and I were selling domain names offline before we officially launched Brandpa.com – these domain names were sold before then.

2. "Piggy-back branding off BrandBucket in site footer"

I think this is a fair way to attract people who are searching for alternatives to BrandBucket. It's designed to rank in search engines, e.g. we're 1st on Google for "alternative to BrandBucket" in the US and UK right now.

3. Thanks for spotting the domain name errors! They've been fixed now.

4. "Cons: Low Alexa Ranking".

We're less than 6 months old and clearly have less traffic than BB and some other marketplaces. However, I can say our traffic is growing fast, and that Alexa is definitely playing catch up (check again in a month or so). By way of credibility, my husband has built some pretty high traffic sites:
  • Silktide.com is ranked 35,804th, above BrandBucket
  • Insites.com is 186,801st (and was unranked around April last year)
  • OliverEmberton.com is 305,482nd even though it hasn't been updated in 2 years
To grow Brandpa's traffic we have free tools (e.g. https://brandpa.com/idea-explorer), high quality blog content (e.g. https://brandpa.com/resources/how-to-name-your-startup) and a lot more coming in the near future.

5. I'd like to add a few pros (I'm biased of course! :) )
  • We put a LOT more design effort into making names look great, e.g. take a look at https://brandpa.com/name/askhr or https://brandpa.com/name/gorillum and compare with other marketplaces
  • A smaller inventory means more attention per visitor. It's easy to get lost in 40,000 names.
  • We have more to prove and we're willing to work hard for it
Really appreciate the feedback and I look forward to showing you great things in the future!

P.S: We spell it "Brandpa" and "Silktide". Not "BrandPa" and "SilkTide" ;)

The design of the website is very good and i like the logos.. I had submitted some names but not sure whether i am ready to list them there yet.

@Jowita Emberton had told me

we charge nothing for the logo design
there is no listing fee, i.e. we don’t charge extra for listing your domain names on Brandpa
our commission rate is 25%
on average, we sell 3 - 4 domain names per month, from an inventory of 600
brandpa.com averages 21,000 visits per month and growing

I say good luck to her.. i may put some names on there to test.

Silktide rings a bell

Did or does silk tide run a website valuation service?

Just had a look at brandpa and I like the look of the website and saw a couple of names on the first and second page that are worth a lot more than the price they are advertised at in my opinion and no they are not mine lol

But at those prices irrespective of any current sales data there are some good names and logos on brandpa and they will soon produce sales based on current names and the very reasonable prices of the names on brandpa

But

Brandpa has a connection with silktide

And I'm not a fan of Silktide

And here's why

I used to use a great website

Websiteoptimisation. Com and loved it

And I like site price too but tried another website optimisation or valuation website that apparently had something to do with Silktide because before using this website my website would appear in Google images as my website with my domain name as it should do obviously, but after it was scanned through a website owned by or Silktide itself my website still appeared in Google images but then my website appeared with the Silktide domain at the bottom of my website s picture in Google image ranking

And as good as brandpa looks and it looks good I now can't think of brandpa without thinking of how annoyed I was seeing Silktide web address on my website pic in Google

And as long as the two are linked I can't or won't use any website associated with Silktide

Purely based on my own experience

Can you name some?

1
•••
Possibly lol

Because the names on brandpa appear to be extremely keenly priced to sell and some of the names are quite good and in dot com etc

There must be a market buying brandpa names at brandpa prices and reselling them for slightly under bb prices

Just a thought

Can I name the ones I think are very good names?

I could but I'm not doing your work for you as I can only assume you might want to buy them to make a profit etc lol

I don't give profit away lol

There are at least 30+ decent brands on brandpa that are good neat reasonably priced brands that should be snapped up quite quick I would have thought

They are new and they are continuously adding more names to the marketplace. I had a talk with @Jowita Emberton regarding the upcoming developments in Brandpa and she was happy to share some of the upcoming features such as;

1. They have been consistently working on a search algorithm which is fast, easy to browse and with almost every filter.

2. Smart newsletters which will be sent based on the category of interest. For example, if you are interested in Tech related names, you will be receiving only tech related names instead of the hundreds of unwanted names you have no interest in.

3. Analytics feature is in development which will show;
  • How often a domain is shown in search results
  • How often a domain is featured, e.g. on our homepage or About page
  • How often a domain is visited from an external source, e.g. an ad, social post, or traffic to the domain itself
  • How often a domain is favourited
4. Conversation area: A simple messaging system that will allow sellers to discuss pricing, wording, logos etc.

brandpa loads quicker than bb

What will make a difference to domain investors is although the prices appear lower than bb this will produce more sales to domain investors which will bring more liquidity in to the domain industry via end user through domain investor of which some no doubt will be reinvested in to portfolios and renewals via registrar etc etc

I'm quite happy with Brandpa. Currently I don't have any published names (only accepted ones waiting for a logo), but the site looks clean, nice, and it's very fast. My BB names' pages usually load in more than 10 seconds, which is unacceptable, but it's less than 1s on Brandpa, which is cool. Their inventory is very small at the moment (compared to BB), and their Alexa rank is skyrocketing (it improved 4 million positions in the last 3 months), so I'm kind of optimistic about this marketplace :)

Its not hard to get alexa rank to 3 million ...when they rank on the first page of Google count me in

Actually, it's around 600k at the moment, and improving rapidly. Of course, the desired rank would be less than 100k :)

@Jowita Emberton :First of all congrats on this challenging endeavor.

Secondly since its been advertised that there are no listing fee charges for sellers, why is there a discrepancy as highlighted below. It says the payment is taken only when the domains are accepted. Isn't that where the listing part comes in?Kindly clarify.

My personal opinion:
At present Brandpa doesn't charge me as a domain holder / submitter. So now it is free of charge. Probably, at later stages there will be some sort of a fee.

Yaay, 4 of my accepted domains have been published :)
The logos are awesome (nice and clean design), and I didn't have to pay $10/name like on BB :)

Examples:
profitvibe.com
investlite.com

As of today there is a $5 fee to publish an accepted name.
