In chat, we've been testing out a new set of rules on Fridays to allow selling ("Casual Fridays"): More details.

Please let us know whether we should:
  1. Only allow selling in chat on Fridays like we have been doing.
  2. Extend selling in chat to the entire weekend.
  3. Allow selling every other day in chat.
  4. Always (24/7) selling in chat.
  5. Never allow selling in chat.
  6. Other (explain in a post)

Thanks in advance!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
After first reading your suggestion of always selling the chat, I thought, nope, nope, nope. That was because I thought the chat would get spamy. However, now that I think of it, casual weekends are usually not spamy. The conversations are usually of higher quality due to more active chatters. I like this idea.

I too support the 24/7 chat sales but obviously with rules; whether some genuine mistakes happen ( posting after 10 min instead of 15 especially when chat is very active and can't be scrolled up enough ) there are members who, to say it plain and simple, do not give a flying fluke about rules.

Those members should not be allowed in chat as they are abusing the system at the expenses of others..

I'd also like to see a clock in chat..or a countdown timer that one can start to make sure the 15 min have passed before posting.

As someone else has previously pointed out instant messaging between chat users would be a great addition for selling.

Hello,

Don't forget to "Change Your Vote" in the poll if your choice has changed. ;)

We banned a couple people from chat earlier today. We take action whenever we are aware of an issue. Please report.

I've added it to our suggestions list. Thanks,

How about a separate chat room for buying and selling?

I appreciate usenamex's initiatives in general, but I don't think 24/7 advertising in chat is going to be necessary. Do you want to see ads every time you enter chat?

The confusion about the time is a non-issue. When somebody asks if they can post in chat, there's almost always somebody around to answer or to link them to timeanddate.com. And if there's nobody around to answer they will usually post the ad anyway.

The problem is that not many people enter the chat.

But if you notice what happens during casual weekends, you'll see that the ads are regularly pushed up by conversations. So, you have both advertising and conversations going on at the same time.

There was a super great idea shared in chat that we could have a tagging system that would mark sales ads and allow users to opt in or opt out of seeing the ads, then we get the best of both worlds - allow selling 24/7 AND allow people who wish to opt out of ads to enjoy chat AND keep chat active since it get pretty slow when there's no motivation from ads : smile :

Not sure if it was already mentioned.

Just clone the chat area and create a second chat room.

One for just discussions, and the other for just selling.

Simple, clean, and easy.

Done.

It's been suggested a few times, but it would cause sales to be always hidden away in another chat room.

The value of chat is that it appears on every thread and has major exposure/views. We could create another chat room for 24/7 sales where only buyers and sellers look, but we already have a page dedicated to that here: https://www.namepros.com/marketplace/buy-domains

It wouldn't make sense to create another area that would have less exposure than what we already have. The idea of "24/7 chat selling" provides no value if it doesn't have increased views/sales. ;)

Hope that helps explain it,

82 percent people vote for always ,now why admin not allow to post all days. if admin allow us to post all days then it will generate more traffic on site ,more people will participate in chat and more opportunities will create for sale domain name .

It's not "percent" - it's 82 votes.

I don't think selling in chat for all days is a good move. We rarely use chat. We also want to view what's guys in chat are selling in market . IMO :xf.wink:

I think a more appropriate poll would be,

"How much is actually sold in chat?"

We need to find a way to clean up the garbage that spams chat to attract real buyers.

I think it could be a very good asset to the domain reseller community.

But the way it has been going is a total joke.

This is just my opinion.

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade.

It's not that simple:
  • 82 votes are for Always
  • 116 votes (At least) are for Not Always (Never, Every other day, Weekends only, Fridays only)
That's why we do not plan to change it at this time. We are considering creating two rooms (One for Chatting and one for Selling).

Edit: Stats updated on May 19, 2017

Why not charge $49.95 for a premium membership that lets people sell in chat, and let everybody buy, then make just friday free for everybody. I would pay for that.

Is this in addition to yearly membership? Or standalone for 1 year? Should be like $100+ imo.

Look at the new Casual Weekend GREEN Light!

Just so everyone knows, it does not show up in the mini chat in the sidebar OR in the "Full Chat" window
Hoping this is a work in progress and it will be on all chat displays AND much bigger : smile :

To get the pop-up words, mouse over the green dot

Do you think buyers would pay $50 to buy in chat while there are market forums on namePros?

I don`t think so. Sure this would generate extra money for namePros but it will have no good for sellers at all.

People might pay this amount to sell, but I think there won`t be much buyers but sellers...

If the community demands 24/7 I don`t see why this is not happening.

This is a forum and we are the content creators, namePros should listen the majority.

In my opinion 2 different chat room makes more sense.

If all I see domain promotion on the chat room I highly doubt I would participate in that.

I triple majored in statistics at Stanford graduating in 2012. With 5 choices anything over 20% is majority. And always allowing people to sell has double the votes considered majority.

The majority selection/choice among all other choices, yes. That does not make it what the majority of members want in the poll. In fact, I've explained in detail that it is not what the majority of members want. ;)

It's important to not lose sight of what numbers represent when working with statistics: https://www.namepros.com/posts/5856762/

Looking at polls without context can be misleading if you're not careful.

Give 2 choices should we sell always or should we only sell on weekends. 70% will say sell always. Make it fair.

That would make the poll biased by forcing a decision between two choices that many members have decided not to choose.

The current poll is fair, and if someone changes their mind, they can change their vote in the current poll.

Thanks for understanding,

Biased would be giving one choice, with an option to delete your account if you don't like it.
