CPC - Which One Is Correct

Hello,

A question regarding CPC.

Which is the most accurate between Estibot and Expired Domains.

For instance, I am looking at an expired domain on Expired Domains and it shows a CPC of $9.61, while Estibot shows a CPC of $0.05. To be prudent, you would think you should go by the lower of the two, but is this correct?

If the short answer is don't rely on either and use Google's figure then begs the question of the overall usefulness of the above mentioned resource tools. If this parameter is so far out, what about the other results they produce?

Any thoughts anyone?

Regards

Frank

CPC can change quickly. You should always check it yourself at the source if you base your buying decision on it! Same goes for every other value on my website!

Here is how SearchVolume/CPC works on ExpiredDomains.net:

The CPC comes directly from the Google Adwords API. I make 2 checks to the API for Domains with a word match and the higher resultset (based on the search volume) is shown in the listing. For Domains without a word match I only do one check and that is used.

Example: for ExpiredDomains.net I would check "ExpiredDomains" and "Expired Domains". The resultset with higher search volume (the CPC is attached to that) would be used.

Marketplace Domains get refreshed regularly, but Deleted Domains keep the value from when they dropped (no refresh)! Adwords data is the only value I do not refresh for Deleted Domains, because of the number of domains in the database (>213mio at the moment). All other values are being refreshed after a certain while.

If you trust the values is up to you. As I said in the beginning, I encourage everyone to check the values at the source! I provide links on most values, so you can check them easily. However as far as I know there is no public website for google adwords anymore where you can check the values, so there is no link for that.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm not quite sure I'm understanding it though.

In particular, "If you trust the values is up to you. As I said in the beginning, I encourage everyone to check the values at the source! I provide links on most values, so you can check them easily. However as far as I know there is no public website for google adwords anymore where you can check the values, so there is no link for that.

Excuse me for maybe sounding thick, but what or where is the source? Also, do you mean the links are on the CPC value itself. The filtered result I have on screen at the moment doesn't have a clickable link over the CPC value if I hover over that value - or am I looking in the wrong place?

At least I can see from your reply where and how the figures come from and can be referred to or relied upon.

Thanks again for the reply.

Best regards

Frank

The adwords values (search volume, cpc) do not have links. The other values like majestic, seokicks, archive.org ... have links. That is what I meant. If it is possible, I link to it.

For adwords there was the keyword tool, but with the changes google made to that I don't know if there is a free/public way of checking the values. Maybe you can get it in your adwords account somehow, but I'm not sure.

Theres always a large discepancy in search volume between site like these too (estibot, domainindex, expireddomains etc). It looks as though the results in the SG column on ExpiredDomains.net is broad match results as opposed to exact match which is highly annoying as typos get high results. Maybe @kostaki can confirm this?

That is how the adwords api works now. I have a blog post about this in the member area. Here is a quote:

.. The reason for this is that the google keyword planner / adwords api changed recently. They now combine close variants together and that includes misspelled words! For example all of these words (faceboeken, fazetook, lfacebookl, fackpook, facbopk) and a lot more return the search volume for "facebook". At this time, it is not possible to get the search volume for the exact word from the adwords api anymore!

You can google "adwords close variants". Its not just my website that is affected and at the moment I have no way of detecting these or filtering these.

If you have an active adwords account with some regular spend, you can get them through that.

Yes, Adwords implemented the "close variants" a while back and (since it's intended to be used by advertisers) the keyword tool / api were updated to match.

It's a pain for many advertisers too, since often a search for "widget cleaners" has different intent than a search for "widget cleaner" or "widget cleaning" (one may be looking for a service, another may be looking for a product, the 3rd may be looking for DIY info), and unless the difference in meaning is obvious (like apple the fruit vs apple the brand), Google will use it. But it gets more impressions, Google gets more fees ...
Advertisers can use negative match, account structure and bid strategies and scripts to automatically add close variants to negative match lists. Last time I checked negative match didn't alter the keyword tool results, but maybe they've fixed that? May be worth checking out.
