I had a solid offer on a domain and I accepted. Customer went ahead and paid for it. My merchant services says I will receive deposit in two days. Should I go ahead and deliver or should I wait till money is in account. Buyer seems solid and responded fast with payment. I do want my customer to be happy.

what sort of a payment or escrow method is this "merchant services" you speak of? is this a fancy word for paypal? cause if so, then you should cancel it all, refund buyer, and start all over using escrow service... epik or such. cheers.

Oh definitely send them the domain before you get paid. ...NOT!
Get your money, 'then' transfer/push the domain. This is not a 'trust your buyer' industry or world.

You should follow whatever you have stated in your ToS (it's on your website you sold the domain , correct?)

Customer is happy when you're true to your word so, if you have stated that domain will be transferred upon payment then that's what you should do. If on the other hand you have stated nothing then it'd be wise to wait for the money first.

These things should be clear beforehand though. You really don't need unnecessary complications when you have passed the hardest point (ie. actually selling a domain)

Merchant Services sounds like a credit card processing company that I use to do business with. If they accepted payment from the user (buyer) then they verified his information. But credit card companies do not necessarily send you money right away. Usually it's at the end of the month or when you have a significant balance in the account and you have to request it early. If it this type of transaction, the buyer has paid and the charge is on his/her credit card. Transfer the domain. The policies between the seller and the credit card company are not the buyer's responsibility

I use Stripe on my account. I guess I consider this a merchant service

I have to agree with what @alcy said. Paypal and even a credit card charge can be reversed (card could be stolen). So, if the amount is substantial (a few thousands). Then you need to do it through an Escrow service.

Thats correct I use Stripe as a merchant service. Just reaching out to my peers to get opinions. Not trying to "cryptic"

got it. thanks. I was seriously thinking it was paypal.
I guess its a bit cryptic unintentionally on your end, as it'd be hard for anyone to guess if you are using stripe.. or just paypal merchant services. but anywya.. enough on cryptology.. let's talk facts..

here is what you should do imo:

if you must use your "merchant" then tgransfer nothing before money is deposited to you.
in fact, I'd even wait min few days after deposit.. to minimize your chance of problems. it won't be a guarantee if you do that, and yoru buyer doesn't look like someone who can wait long anyway.. but if I had no choice for payment like this and had to use a merchant, I'd definitely do all I can to buy me a few extra days. it's what I always do for bigger paypal payments too. when I have no other choice but to take them.

then as I said before, and others said, the ideal, depending on amount, is to cancel all of it.. refund buyer.. and initiate something like epik.com escrow.which is my prefered escrow method.

where buyer pays to epik escrow.. they hold funds.. then you transfer your domain to epik registrar.. they push it to buyer.. lock it against trnasfer for 60 days in case of problems with payment.. and then they pay you his funds. 0% escrow fee if u use the funds on epik buys... else its 5% total to withdraw to your paypal (that's 5% total.. so 4% regular paypal fee you get on any incoming payment to paypal and then just 1% overhead).. by far the cheapest escrow on the surface of the planet.

p.s. I am not epik affiliated. just a real happy client of their escrow.

hope this helps you. or any.

There isn't much point in closing the barn door after the horses have bolted. You really should have considered this situation more carefully in your ToS before you made the sale. It looks very bad now to tell the buyer, hang on, I'm going to refund you your payment, and make you pay again via Epik in order to better protect my position. Just hang on until you get paid and transfer the domain.

So buyer purchased and paid on the gateway in your website. Now it is your matter when Gateway pays you )it depends on the service agreement between yo and the merchant gateway).
If I was the buyer, I should have expected to receive my purchase instantly, that is what you should do.

My only experiences with Sedo Escrow is they are as slow as frozen molasses. Like 2-3 weeks slow.
It's true...happen to me as well......
