GoDaddy Account Push Option Now Requesting Email Confirmations From All Parties???

Anyone come across a push, and from taking 1 minute, it now takes however long it takes for all parties to confirm email confirmations.

First it will send an email asking you to confirm the account change then it will ask the other party to confirm the account change, then once confirmed it will go back into pending update, and start the push process? At which point the incoming account party has to manually accept the account push.

Updates have been submitted and can take up to 5 days to display.

I got like 5 emails over the course of a single push.

It was a real pain, the newbie experience will not be fun, Anyone come across this yet?

Dag nabbit, here we go again.... again making unnecessarily-complex account changes even more confusing.

Not only that, but now my domain is locked in pending update, at the mercy of the owner-to-be. Can't renew it, can't cancel the update, nothing. Isn't GoDaddy aware that sometimes buyers take weeks to complete even a simple step? And that sometimes they just disappear altogether without a word?

Why not just scrap the second step? There's no excuse for a multi-layered, confusing acceptance process in 2017. Once the new registrant has approved the contact change, why the Sam Hill are they required to again approve anything? There's got to be a way to combine this into ONE step.

CUSTOMER SERVICE 101: MAKE THINGS EASY FOR THE CUSTOMER

GoDaddy just doesn't get it, and inexplicably has one of the worst "push" systems in the industry.

With many registrars, the buyer needs only log in to their account, and they will be shown some sort of PENDING TRANSFER alert. Very, very simple. At GoDaddy, there's no alert, they have to fiddle around in their account looking for how to accept it.

If GoDaddy's so hell-bent on requiring a two-step acceptance process, they should at minimum simplify it - something that's long overdue. It would be so simple to, upon sign-in, display some sort of notification that HEY, YOU'VE GOT A DOMAIN WAITING FOR YOU... CLICK HERE TO ACCEPT! where clicking the link takes the receiving party directly to their Incoming Account Changes area.

Simple..... right?

GoDaddy can blame ICANN all they want, but at the end of the day, they alone are responsible for making this entire process a real burden for their customers. Of course, simplifying account changes has NEVER been on GoDaddy's agenda, so I don't know why I'm surprised to see them further muck up the process.

Honestly what's even more concerning than the overly complicated process itself is that my domain is seemingly stuck in Pending Update until the recipient approves the new contact details. I don't appreciate having my domains locked unnecessarily like this (again, GoDaddy's doing, not ICANN's).

Perhaps this has been answered already, but how long does this potentially tie up my domain for? At what point does the update time out?

Sorry but I'm not willing to give potential buyers that much power over my domains. If that means taking my business elsewhere (again), so be it. GoDaddy ain't the only horse in town.

This is really throwing a wrench into one of my transactions.

Buyer claims to have not received any email from GoDaddy. I've attempted cancelling the change to re-try, but my domain is still locked in Pending Update status, and I have no idea if that cancellation is actually in the works or not. And to think, this is just Step 1 of 2.

At this point, there's really no substantial, professional update I can provide to the buyer. Just waiting for GoDaddy to get their sh!t together, one way or another, and hopefully sooner than later...

I'm in the exact same situation as you, I started the push - accepted the contact information change on my end. Buyer emailed saying he hasn't received anything from GoDaddy so I just cancled the update & it's still saying pending update so I have no idea whats going on.

I have used the cancel button also, it doesn't stop the transaction. It doesn't enable, I think you have to wait 5 days to the transaction to timeout. It can be really hard to get non tech savvy end user to complete all the steps, then log back in.

That is why I am confused, as no other company engages such a push policy, I feel they are really hurting their sales, and registration business by doing so.

Do you know if its possible the buyer just hasn't received the email asking for him to confirm the contact change? It's possible it is stuck in the spam folder but I have no idea. Don't want to give my buyer the run around if GoDaddy are at fault for not sending over the email

Most likely delayed, if they are using AOL, their filters could have blocked, or diverted it, sometimes it takes longer for others to receive it, how long has it been since you made the request. Also let them to know to check the email that is registered with their godaddy account. I have used the system, it sends it out to both parties in an automated format, so no reason it would not send it. Emails from non active addresses can sometimes hit, and miss when it comes to filters, I don't think they factored this into their transfer plan.

Sent it on the 25th, which is when I received & accepted it. Buyer said he went and had a look in his spam and couldnt see anything, so I guess GoDaddy just hasn't sent it out?

I think Godaddy would have sent it, call support they have power to cancel, then you can restart.

Yes, its aggravating..
I starting adding the following dialogue after I do a GD push....You may want to use it or something similiar....

The domain has been pushed (moved) to your Go Daddy account. You must now ACCEPT the domain according to Go Daddy's revised procedures..

This procedure applies to both of us. You and I have just received emails from Go Daddy asking us to confirm the account change and "contact information" for this domain. I just confirmed it on my end and you must do the same now. If either one of us does not follow through on this "confirmation" procedure the push of the domain will be blocked via a continuous "pending update". Once Go Daddy receives both our confirmations, the domain will start to "change accounts"..

Finally, you must log back into your Go Daddy account. The domain will appear in your " pending account change - incoming" area. There you will manually ACCEPT the domain.

And that's it........
"And that's it....."

Well now, that's not complicated at all, is it?
Non savvy buyers wont have a problem with that process in the slightest.
Explaining to your buyer that it's GD's fault and that you're not just jerking them around should be easy.
Wait, was that a charge back they started with PP because, "Hey, where is my new domain?"

Yup, no problem at all.

@Joe Styler , I know it's not your doing, but couldn't you and @Paul Nicks explain to the powers that be what a difficult process this is for n00bs and experienced domainers as well?

Peace,
Cy

I am sure something can be moved around to make the process smoother. I let the developers and policy team know and we will figure it out.

It is now 6 weeks later. What is the status on this ? There are sales I would have made, but the process is now so onerous, I'm not even bothering.
ICANN fully refutes any claim by GD that the process must be so difficult now.
You are still within ICANN rules to let gaining registrant confirm their information AFTER accepting the domain.
Too many steps. You're going to lose money. Brand fail.

I mean at this point when I decide to sell a domain(I dont use GD marketplace), I will have to create a new GD account, push the GodDamn name to it, approve and approve. And then when I have a new buyer, simply update all their contact info and hand the account over to them.
Voila, problem solved.

What I have had to do for expediency is not change the contact info when pushing either way. This makes it instantly. Then after the push, change the contact info. I think the current owner can change the contact Email Address only to the new email and it won't cause any delays.

So....
1. Change email to new registrant email.
2. Push Domain (happens fast like before)
3. New owner changes registrant info.

I posted in the thread a couple weeks ago that we released the new changes. They have been out since late April. So we released the change, had feedback about what people didn't like, turned it off, fixed the issues people brought up and turned it back on with the improvements people asked for. We have a little more work being done on the interface to make it stand out a bit more what you have to do i.e. click the email but the majority of the work was done prior to re-releasing the change a couple weeks ago.

@Joe

I have a problem with domain push. Buyer got this error message, after accepting:

Given request is invalid. If you feel this is incorrect please try again.

I've attempted cancelling the change to re-try, but my domain is still locked in Pending Update status.

Here are the articles for both moving and accepting the domain from one account to another.

https://www.godaddy.com/help/move-a-domain-to-another-godaddy-account-822

https://www.godaddy.com/help/accepting-domain-account-changes-1670

There are a few ways to move the domain, meaning different information that be can used to move the domain. The least restrictive way is to choose - DO NOT CHANGE on the account details and have the person gaining the domain to accept it and then update the details.

You can change the details of course which these also outline. That should allow you to move the domain without any issue. If you are still having issues let me know.

@Joe Styler

I'm having the same issue pushing a domain.

I began the push on June 17th by entering the buyer's email address and also entering by entering new details. I confirmed the contact info update email. Buyer never received the email. Domain in question has never shown up in the outgoing account changes for me or in the incoming account changes for buyer. Domain has stayed in pending update status since starting the push. I tried clicking the resend emails button on June 19th for the domain in question but no email was ever received by me or the buyer. This morning I tried to cancel the update and the system gave a message that said it was processing the cancellation but the domain is still in pending update status 10 hours later. When I spoke with GoDaddy support via chat this morning I seemed to know more about the process of account changes than they did.

Also, if I push a domain I don't want to have to leave the contact details as my own. I'm still getting emails 7+ years later for some domains I previously sold that the buyers never bothered to update their contact info for.

You'll probably need to call support, who can manually cancel the pending contact update so that you can retry it.

Talked with Pat at GoDaddy support via online chat today and he/she was most helpful. Pat was able to get the domain out of pending update status so that I could restart the domain account change. Hopefully it works this time.

Support can manually cancel it you cannot. It does time out after 5 days if both parties do not accept the change by clicking the email links. If you hit resend emails and you already approved it on your end you will not get a new email because you are already done, the gaining account would get the email. They will get it to whatever email address you put in the registrant contact field you filled out for the new account when starting the change.
I have been asked to look into a decent amount of these and each time I have found the same thing, the account that is gaining the domain is not clicking the email link, so I would ask them to do so and check their spam etc folders. Or you can try another email address when you restart it if their email filters are blocking it.
You will not see it in the outgoing or incoming change of account section until both people click that email link. Hope that helps.

Well if we can't cancel it ourselves then why have the option show up to make us think we can?

What's the purpose of having the gaining account owner have to click on an email to confirm the contact info update when they still have to manually accept the domain into their account anyways? Seems like having the buyer confirm the contact info update is redundant and creating problems.

The point is compliance with ICANN we have a few ways to do it, we can do it via email, or via text or snail mail. But they made a rule to try in part to protect people's domains from unauthorized change of ownership. All accredited registrars are required to follow this policy. We need to alert the registrant email contact on the WHOIS of both the gaining and losing party that the domain ownership is being changed.

I get why the losing party needs to be notified, but why does the gaining party need to be notified in a separate email that needs to be confirmed first? When the gaining party receives the pending account change email from GoDaddy that says they need to sign into their account to accept the incoming account changes they know domain ownership will be changed when they accept it.

*BUMP*

The issue of not receiving the incoming account change email is still happening for me.

Anyone else still having this problem? Or has anyone successfully done a GD push without any of the workarounds lately?

Did a push yesterday, seemed to work.
