Just wondering, does anyone see Volumetric VR becoming a commonly used term and potentially being abbreviated to VVR? Or is this likely to be one used by those involved in the tech, that the general public never really hears about?

I'm hoping it comes under the 'VR Video' umbrella, volumetric video’s potential is fantastic, it’s potential is one of the reasons why i bought VR+Video dot com.

Picked up som vSports names....apparently that's what they are calling it. Personally I think vSports will be much bigger than eSports.

vSportBets dot king
vSportBettingOdds dot king
vSportsBettingOdds dot king

The best ones were taken but I picked up all the premiums in co.uk at least.

We knew it was coming... VR Gambling ! The conference !

https://www.inverse.com/article/30324-vr-gambling-conference

I did not play this very heavy. VRPokerRooms, VRPokerTables, CasinoHolodeck a few others.
And I am comfortable with them and still don't wish to have any more.
It is likely existing names will convert more/faster than the high outside need for new VR names.
But it can be a unique opportunity if you can figure out brands for this in the EU.

This link regarding Snapchat's new AR features has probably already been posted

https://www.vrfocus.com/2017/04/sna...nouncing-new-world-lenses/?platform=hootsuite

But it does really highlight the blurring of 'augmented' and 'mixed' reality. If AR on smartphones leads the way, as it appears very much certain over the next couple of years, and these gradually have some element of 3D, the popular use of AR for what techies are now calling 'mixed reality' is going to take some shifting. Seems to me that this time next year, millions of people will be familiar with AR on their phones, and as in the video in the link mixing '3D' images and graphics with the real world. At the same time, maybe (much) less than 100,000 actual mixed reality headsets/glasses/goggles will be sold (I'm not talking about the new Windows Mixed Reality VR headsets).

Thing to take into consideration though is that the mobile AR we will be introduced to will be quite basic compared to where they want the eventual glasses AR/MR to lead to.

If they want to market something to be better than AR, most companies will want to call it a further progression than AR.

Seeming as though some of these companies explain mixed reality as using elements of VR & AR to create a mixed reality, I do not see the problem.

Facebook are talking about AR because that is what they are pushing now. But oculus talk about the future heading in a mixed reality direction and I think that could be a big clue.

Agreed, but the point is that the 'basic' AR will be getting better before the MR glasses/HoloLens really hit mass adoption.

Let's be honest, given the disappointing sales of VR headsets, and given the state of MR headsets (only 3,000 or something of the developers HoloLens shipped/MagicLeap apparently years behind schedule), it could be another decade before hundreds of millions own 'mixed reality' glasses. By the end of next year, if the iPhone gets on board, a billion people could be familiar with mobile AR, which will quickly incorporate 3D elements similar to the MR glasses.

Basic AR might get better before Mixed Reality Glasses hit the market I 100% agree.

I know Hololens 2 is aiming for a 2019 target. But I still see the future moving beyond the AR keyword.

Truth is Microsoft's vision is pretty transpatent and they see things moving towards mixed reality which is why they have based their platform on it.

The fact facebook owned Oculus who is working on their future tech refers to that as Mixed Reality shows that they believe thing's will progress further that the AR keyword. Otherwise they would have simply said the future is AR will replace everything.

But what they pretty much said is VR & AR will eventually meet to create Mixed Reality.

Was just having a think about what Scoble said about Microsoft deeming their new VR headset ‘Mixed Reality’ and how it’s basically messed things even more as it contradicts what ‘Mixed Reality’ is.

I’ve not really read enough about this, so maybe you Mixed Reality investors who are more up to scratch can tell me more. But is there a chance Microsoft is not promoting the term ‘Mixed Reality’ how you and other people within the industry think? And just promoting Mixed Reality as sort of a marketing term for their own technologies and devices (trying to stand out from the crowd)?

Obviously if they are just promoting it for themselves, then I think that’s bad news for ‘Mixed Reality’ as a term. I don’t think it’s unfair to say a big part of Mixed Reality’s future (as a term) is riding with Microsoft. If they are promoting ‘Mixed Reality’ as a whole new tech though, then that’s better news.

But if that’s the case what is them deeming their VR headset a ‘Mixed Reality headset’ all about?

I am at work so will keep it short.

These headsets we will see this year are just a stepping stone. Microsoft are building a mixed reality eco system and yes the mixed reality they are eventually aiming for will be a seperate tech to standalone vr or ar tech.

I,e at the moment their platform will support VR & AR.

But they are planning on creating mixed reality headsets that mix elements of VR & AR together to create what they call Mixed Reality.

@NamePov became an expert :)

I think scoble hasn't realized yet the full scale of MR. Not only Microsoft are referring to it as a spectrum of experiences but also other giants i know of.

This is a page i find useful for understanding MR concept by Microsoft.

https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/mixed_reality

It will start with occluded headsets capable of 6dof with some kind of AR VR (mostly VR) capabilities and later on will also have True MR devices hololens style.
