Well the .WS registry has been in the news this week for releasing all 5N to 20N combinations last night, and 2 and 3 character .ws will be available later in Feb with new pricing scheme.

.WS registry also has a presence on NP now:
https://www.namepros.com/threads/ws...-ws-domains-will-be-released-tomorrow.915224/

Obviously the China story may be creating a new market for short .WS domains. ALL of the NNNN.ws were bought out over three days this past December according to thedomains.com blog.

I registered some 5N.ws last night when they were released, anyone else stepping into .WS now?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I'm dropping all of my .ws - the only reason I bought them was the (short-lived) ChineseFever[TM]
It was great while it lasted.
But now that we are back to harsh (LOL) reality of selling names end users actually want, there's no point in wasting money on .ws renewals, even if they are as low as $10.
There are better things to spend your money on.

Godaddy has under $6 reg fee for .ws

I'm sure it was higher not long ago.

Wonder if this applies to transfers too?

Ppl told me to stay away from .ws.

I'm surprised there's 21 pages here.

So far that has been good advice, lol. But I still think it has potential to get traction in China, and worth a small gamble to me if the reg fee is low. Low renewal would also help. Two years ago I hand regged NNNN.co chips and sold them within a year for xxx and xxxx each because of the China frenzy. .io. has gotten hot. LLLL.com chips went from $10 to >$1000 in short time. You never know what the future holds. In 6 months maybe .ws gets hot in China. As long as you don't bet the farm.

.ws is a weird tld for sure. I've done ok w/ keyword.ws domains, but nothing earth shattering, just decent roi.

I think with the launch of .website .site and soon .web it might serve an additional function of a url shortner or may still continue as a cheap(er) alternative given the 'premium pricing' most new gtlds employ.

As an extension for development it seems like a good bet - given that google considers it the same as a gtld.

The only people buying .ws domains is the next smartest mug. There are very few developed .ws websites, which is a shame since google treats it as a gTLD. Their biggest problem is probably their pricing policy. $6-$8 to register and $22-26 (or something to renew). Nobody holds onto failing TLD's at those renewal prices. As most of the nGTLD's will eventually discover. You may see a few outlier purchases once in a while, but mostly they don't get developed and dropped later. Because they've generally been purchased by the next smartest mug on the block. China may change that for NNNN domains, but very much doubt it will flow over to the American language .ws domains. Personally. I'd put .ws in the mismanaged group of TLD's.

How many times have you been told to buy .com. There has never been a time when that mantra wasn't sound advice. Look at the prices LL, LLL. LLLL, Keywords prices have risen over the last 10 years. Every year, I think it must have reached it top. Only to find they've doubled in price by next year. I cannot see that ever happening with .ws domains. Think about it.

Stu, Asset.com just sold for $400k+, I'd be happy w/ $4k for Asset.ws - for a developer it's a no brainer, just that the reseller market doesn't really recognize the upside because of low demand.

Though one must consider registration / renewal prices of .website / .site / .web etc for the particular keyword to understand the value proposition.

The only reason to get a .ws is if the same keyword in .com is 6 figures or more AND if you plan to develop. You simply can not justify getting one otherwise.

ll/lll or number domains in .ws make no sense to me at all, specially given the renewal prices on ll/lll.

And with the current price increase in renewals from $10/yr to $30/yr registrations will drop considerably imo even overall, classic case of greed killing the golden goose.

It is a gamble, but to me worth buying ones like 1515 and 6988 .ws and holding for a year. Only $6 to reg and maybe renewal prices will drop or interest will pick up. Though I'm surprised how .com keeps going up and alternatives don't so much.

What I find stupid of the .WS-registry : they raised the renewalrate considerably 2 years ago.
A couple of years before that they became immediately available 40 days after expiry (what's now not any more the case).

I don't know why .co and .ws don't drop the renewal to $10 or $12 range.

Why do I feel guilty for kicking up a dusty thread?lol anyway..

I found this thread because I came across a GD closeout .ws that I didn't want to pay for, BUT don't think I could let it go either. So I took many things into consideration including your quote above. Before making my decision, knowing .ws is still very weak and not on fire.I do not plan on developing though.

The name is a 4L keyword.

The 6L (Plural .com Did sale for 6 figures , I can't find the price of the 4L .com it may have never been sold it's developed and og owner has kept it I guess. So I took this into consideration.

It's a high used word and trending market.

The other part that got me thinking that I would like to bring up is, .ws may not be on fire now, but the thing to look at is its the same cctld used for the Emojis. That got me thinking....the emojis are on the rise and it's starting to trend more and there is more talk about it here lately, I even bought a few.

My thinking is perhaps the extra hype and talk/rise of the emoji domains "might" bring more awareness and eyes to the .ws market being that the both use the .ws what is your alls thought on this concept?

With this info I decide to make the purchase and it should be in my account on the 27th if all goes smooth.

(forgot to state also all major tld are taken total of 31/32 ext I believe which was another determining factor)

The reseller market is weak, end users do pay $x,xxx if they really want the keyword, specially given the registry prices for .website .site etc.
