Hope you all would be doing fine.
As for as i know any one can renew io domain with in 90 days after expiration, is it true?
Do anyone know about this grace and/or redemption period of io domains?

Thanks

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Individual registrars can set their own policies that attempt to circumvent the actual IO registry rules. To avoid this, you can move your IO to direct control by setting up an account at nic.io
Even if your current registrar is trying to charge a redemption fee or won't release the Auth Code, there is a way to override it at nic.io There is NO CHARGE to move your domain to direct control at nic.io, but of course the expiration date stays as is. And you can push to another nic.io account yet I have not done this personally, they are pretty helpful and responsive. I am curious now if you can move to nic.io then push if after expiration, then new owner can renew or transfer.

Then, you are certain to have the full grace period, which is 90 days, you are correct. I did this with all my IO to give me more time to renew and not have to deal with registrar nonsense. If you use the whois tool at nic.io it will tell you the EXACT date and time the RGP will end

Here's an example:
Domain Status : Expired/Grace
First Registered : 2015-01-10
Last Updated : 2017-04-10
Expiry : 2017-04-10 ... Redemption Grace Period Ends, 2017-07-10 00:30

**Very Important note - the Redemption Grace Period end time is just after Midnite UTC so make certain to back up the date to your correct time zone**

When the redemption time is close, you can then pay standard transfer to the registrar of your choice, or keep them at nic.io and pay $45. I am moving mine to Moniker for $31.99, although I would guess most people will want to move to NameCheap for $32.88. I dislike the NCheap UI THAT much that I opted for Moniker : grin : So far I just did one of mine at full price since the grace period was to end on the 26TH

Already asked at NameCheap, they have no bulk transfer discount and Moniker support answered me in November that they could offer a bulk discount with a minimum of 20 transfers in, yet IDK what the discount is, I will email them in next few days, they aren't around weekends

This trick even works if you pull your domains from any registrar, then later move them back to same registrar.

Thanks for your detailed reply,
as it actually happened with me,
I was trying to renew one of my domain, i would say a decent domain. it was on namecheap, and 90 days were also not completed.
But when I spoke to their customer service, they told that it has been auctioned off. I was really surprised that how on earth they can auction of a domain when previous owner can actually have a right to renew it with in that redemption period.
To my surprise they actually told me before that I need not to worry about as I can renew my that specific domain with in 90 days after expiration. It was some days back when I was discussing about redemption period with namecheap and to renew that specific domain.

What would be your advice, should I raise the matter with nic.io as I also have their chatting copy when they assured me that I can renew it with in 90 days.

Did you already escalate it at NameCheap? They are the ones who said you would have 90 days then sold it off, so especially if it is still at NC they would be the first point to try and recover. Nic.io is very helpful though so see what you can accomplish at NC then yes, it is worth a try to appeal to nic.io

I didn't even know NCheap did expired auctions

I tried with namecheap, but they are only saying that sorry now we can not do any thing and making lame excuses and saying that why I did not renew it before and bla bla bla.
I even asked how on earth they can auction off a domain that a previous owner can still renew it, in reply they say... sorry now they can not do any thing...
I was really surprised with their attitude as well.
But now I will try with nic.io and lets see what they say.
Thanks again..

Let us know what happens there.
I talked to nic.io but its out of them and it solely depend on registrar agreement with customers and they won't be able to help me out (what they said).
but again I spoke to namecheap and did mention about their support guy who once mentioned in chatting that I can renew the domain before 26th of April..
I also told them that I have a copy of chat and if they check in their records they will find what was promised by them.
they checked and found it in their records and at the end I got the domain back in my account.
Lesson learned....
When ever I talk to tech support, I always keep one copy with me and try to take all the information.
Can not trust namecheap 100%
If you have domain with namecheap than better to renew with in 27 days after expiry (io domains.)

Good thing I have domain with me again... :xf.smile:

Good News. When someone 'wins' in a situation like this, I feel its a win for the whole NP family. Lesson learnt, will keep your experience in mind. Thank you for sharing. CHEERS.
