discuss Shout Out To NamePros and all who sail in here

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Let us raise a toast to NamePros and all its contributors. There is a lot of snobbery in domaining, mainly seasoned domainers who look down at NamePros and its diverse collection of members; newbies, some old hands, some here just for the banter but all backing their own investment strategy and willing to share and thereby open to being shot at by opposing views.

On Konstantinos blog OnlineDomain.com a post was written yesterday about a NamePros thread comparing the sale of shoes.com to shoes.xyz. A commentator snoopy said NamePros was full of idiots talking 75% nonsense. What an arrogant self-indulgent comment. A copy of his comments and my replies are here:-

I tell you why NamePros is so important for this industry. Scam artist can't hide, they often operate behind the so-called friendships they have within the blogging community - time again its NamePros that shines a light on what's happening and ultimately forces the bloggers to report it once they can no longer stay silent.

When questions of the success of nGTLDs were being asked, it was first highlighted here on name pros whilst all the blogs were silent because of the bonanza of advertising dollars they were receiving from the new registries, it is only lately the blogs are also now questioning its sustainability and flaws.

So I raise a toast to my fellow contributors and NamePros and for all to acknowledge its important place in the domaining industry, for free speech and free thinking.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Agreed. One has to see the glass as half full.

I can't imagine my current perception of domaining being what it is ... without Namepros - including it's diversity.

Thanks NP Members (y).

Thanks for the post, and the toast. I've tried all the other places--NamePros members are the best.

Snobbery gets directed at NP because traditionally domaining was a good ol' boys, "behind-closed-doors" private club type of industry. NamePros makes domaining accessible to everyone. A lot of good domainers have started their careers here.

How could someone just judge NamePros in such a way? For me NamePros has always been a part of life and I am serious about it. Whatever domain knowledge I have today is all because of NamePros.

If it wasn't for Namepros I would have gave up on "domaining" only weeks in when I first started.

Reported sales and strategies is what kept me going.

I bet Snoopy is probably an ex-NamePros member who got the boot and is sour about it.

He probably missed the 4L.com 3L.com 4N.com and 5N.com train whilst spouting we were all idiots.

Snoop used to be a frequent poster here, haven't seen him around in years. I didn't always agree with what he said, but he was telling it like it is (or thought it is).

Thanks for the post. Yeah I think he knows what he can suck.

God forbid people have a little fun while domaining and communicate. What we have here is a classic case of.....

Snoopy is Paul Shaw, the co-founder of a failed domain forum that I'm not allowed to name here (rules are rules).

His comments remind me of the old days when some forum founders would try to disparage the members of rival forums. :punch: I thought that died when his forum died, but I was wrong.

The forum on top gets the last laugh, Mr. Shaw. :blackeye:

Many have come and gone since then.

A forum such as Name Pros is good for attempting to obtain feedback for new ideas. There are a couple of problems though. Starting a thread about a new concept will probsbly raise a couple of replies early on, and then the thread will be moved to a minor-board, and it will die there. I found the answer to this is to create a blog and try to raise comments on it, but this doesn't help Name Pros, and one doesn't get exposure to the wealth of experience here. The other problem stems from the desire of some people to attack any new concept, especially if they don't understand it. One of my interests is multiple interlinks between pages, and it's quite difficult to explain this, and its benefits. I'm starting to learn to rise above negative comments, especially the insulting ones. In fact one often learns more from the "likes" than from the posts. :)

All minor-boards (sub-forums) that deal with domain discussion show up here:
If a thread stops getting replies, it's most likely because it didn't have enough interest. You can look at the Popular Threads This Week on the sidebar to see that threads from many different sub-forums (Not just General Discussion) end up on there.

I don't want to take this thread off topic, but I just wanted to let you know about those links in case they help. If you have any further questions about them, please start a new thread or contact customer service so we can answer them.

Hope that helps,
