Hi, I would like to know how many options everyone gives potential buyers? When I get my first response from a buyer, they say I am interested and want to buy, how do I proceed? At first I was telling the buyer that I need your Godaddy account and email so I can push it to you. But, some buyers don't like giving out their Godaddy account number.
So, to get around that, they either have used Godaddy Buy Service or I have created an auction for them and they bought the domain and paid the 20% fee.
So, my question is, do you think it's better to give the buyer more than 1 option?

I think the issue is security. No one wants to get scammed right? More options imo is fine. However, if you had a more stream lined approach it might be more effective.

If you had a domain I wanted to buy, how would I buy it and feel like you weren't going to scam me?

I have been introduced to Tough Domains on this site. Park your domain there. Now the buyer can initiate the purchase through Tough Domains. Gold members do not pay a fee or commission for the sale.

Now:

You have contacted me. I want the domain. Now what. Tell me to type in website, it takes me to Tough Domains, a legit website. Now I can complete the order. If I give you my Godaddy acct number through Tough Domains, I would feel better I think!

You could suggest they create a new Godaddy account just for this domain and then they need to give you the account no. and email used for it. Then their main account stays safe.

Or maybe you could create the account using their info, and give them the no. and password after pushing the domain there. Tell them to change the password afterwards.

I use sedo transfer service its free for buyer to use and they have accounts with most registrars where I just push the domain to there account(sedos) then they make payment the rest is on them, I like simple

At GoDaddy, you can also push the domain using only their email and physical address.

How many options do you give buyers when they first contact you?

you give them the option to make an offer or maybe give them option to buy at BIN price.

you also might give option to "lease with option to buy" or offer a rental agreement.

those are the only options available.

now, if you reach an agreement on price or payment plans, then after amount is paid in full, then you instruct them to initiate transfer request or push the name to their account if within same registrar.

you don't need their account id, until after you get paid and no one will refuse to give id, if they want the name they paid for.

and no third party is needed for this effort

imo...

Let me ask you this. If you as a buyer were looking for a domain and you were looking to spend say $XXXX would you want to pay for item electronically without the third party involved?

Recently I was about to purchase a domain outside the third party realm. But I don't know him, so ultimately I pulled back bc I felt like I had no recourse if guy did not push the domain to me.
How do you navigate those waters as a buyer?

@Want2learn I would definitely use an escrow service for an $xxxx like escrow.com or payoneer or any other reliable escrow service.

Few days ago a buyer refused to use Escrow.com because he had to give his ID etc. He asked whether we can do this through GD but I refused because of the 20% commission. Instead, I transferred to NameSilo and closed the deal through their marketplace. 7.5% commission + $8.xx transfer fees.

I know most domainers are familiar with escrow or other services, but how willing are endusers to navigate there systems and establishing accounts , also having to deal with transferring name. While sedo has many flaws they have made it extremely easy for buyers to just sign up for a free account and then make payment and then sedo handles transfer to buyer.(the commision is much lower when you send the buyers name and free account) most of the end users I sold to were small businesses who handled the buying themselves and are extremely busy taking care of every day business.

I usually always give the buyer 2 options, a fairly high buy it now price and a send it to auction price which I explain if no other bidders that is the sales price if no other offers.

I also think sometimes we take for granted that people all know the processes for buying and selling names but for most people its like speaking another language. Not taking into account peoples fears of being ripped off. I have had a few people respond with how do we know you really own the name. etc

When somebody contacts me out of the blue about a name I quote only the price and the fact that the buyer will pay the Escrow Fees. Nothing else. I leave it up to them if they want to negotiate or not.

Thanks for all the great responses. I am an end user marketer so I contact them first. My first and foremost objective is to make the buyer feel comfortable to buy from me. I have closed deals just by talking on the phone to buyers. I've only sold about 13 domains but most have called me first and of course that helps them feel better about the deal. I guess I get a bit hyper when I just give one option and they don't respond right back to me.

I don't know how I forgot about Epik.com, If I had used their service, I would've saved 2.5% commission fees.

It would've cost 5% commission + transfer fees.. no commission if funds are used to register domains at Epik.

using epik escrow ...they need the domain to be in epik..if the domains is under 60 days old..its impossible to use epik

Since usually a fake name I just list the domain at godaddy with a buy now and tell them no further correspondence will be done directly. No options.

We are considering building a marketplace and we offer escrow for sales pages. But I totally get it that escrow has been asking for more and more detailed id info.
Would you guys use a marketplace that charges 10% if we took care of the whole process?

undeveloped now charges 15% ...the name can be registered anywhere.... if u can offer the same service like undeveloped at 7.5 % ..it would be awsome

a customer of ours actually sold a name on undeveloped they paid $100 for it and have yet to receive the name. I guess it wasnt worth the time spent and I dont know how much of an effort they made. they dont seem to make an effort to push the name once its paid for but I guess neither does sedo.

Yeah same with NameSilo.. but doesn't make a difference to me as I only start doing outbound after 60 days have passed.

Imo the easiest option is to use cax.com and their escrow service ecop.com
Your domain can be anywhere. Put it on CAX, use their escrow, push domain across, pay only 5%. Done.
And you can move money out from them to Paypal, doesn't have to be ONLY transfer to bank account like escrow.com or Payoneer.
I'm not in US and this option feels to be the easiest and the cheapest to me.

I feel the average Joe just has no ideas how to reach a domain owner either by whois or any other means. Asking a friend could be legit or it could be just part of the plot.

I always get these crazy calls from private numbers around the holidays asking about my best names and telling me how worthless they are and they will offer a little more than what I paid. I actually only started asking for true identity after a seller demanded it from me when I was pricing a name for a friend. Thats pretty common.

You can pay with paypal with escrow.com but then it has to go to a bank account.

if the other user signs up to your registrar you can push come from and go to any registrar with escrow as well. Is there really a huge demand to get paid other than to your bank account?

I think it is even dumber than that. I would bet it is a namespro member with no idea.
