I am curious on how the more advanced sellers respond to inbound inquiries. Would prefer to hear from users who have had actual 4, 5, 6 figure + sales.

If someone emails you stating they are interested in xxxxx.com (with or without a price), what is your response? Is it an immediate counter offer / bin price / make offer response or are you asking them what their intentions are as a buyer? Getting to know them/their company, etc.?

Look forward to hearing from many of you.

I'd say if the person that made the initial offer seems legitimate then try and have a conversation with them about their company and their interest in the name before talking further about price. Try and get them on the phone if you're comfortable with that.

What if they already made an offer?

depends on the amount of the offer and...

if it's close to, right at or exceeding expectations, then i may accept it, as i have in the past.

but that too, depends on the name and other factors such as:

how long i had it
initial acquisition cost
any traffic/revenue
how many previous offers
the need or desire to sell, at that time
and quite possibly whether they identify themselves initially, whether that's relevant or not, or if thru diligence a revelation is uncovered... should i choose to dig, and even still, would that affect price?.

Thanks guys, let me give a scenario.

Potential Buyer:

"Hello, I am interested in purchasing your domain name, I am prepared to pay $500. Please let me know at your earliest convenience.

Thank you,
Random Inquiry"

My response ?:

Thank you for your interest in my domain name. Please tell me a little about your company and your planned usage of this domain name.

Thank you,
Mike C."

Is that simple enough? Too simple?

i can see in some cases to ask what's their intent for usage, but most times (if you have good names) it's obvious why.
so getting what you want, is top priority.

in that example, if $500 isn't enough, then i'd just say "thanks for the offer, but it's too low to consider".

and leave it at that

or you could counter with your desired price and see what happens.

if they wanted to tell you about themselves and what they want the name for, they would have done so initially.

See, thats usually what I am use to, getting offers on names that have a clear use. But as of late, considering I have invested in so many brandables, it's hard to see their intent. I try googling the name to an extent, their email address, phone numbers, etc and most of the time I can't find anything.

I am also pretty sure a few of the inquiries are from extremely bored members here on the forum, wasting their life and attempting to waste mine (different names, different emails, but IP all leads back to same proxy), but I do have some that come out to be pretty legit and I really don't know what is the best way to confront them without scaring them away or seem like I am prying too far for information.
