WOW! how many domains? New gtlds in that mix?

I have over 5k domains. Trying to cut back to under 3K by end of the year. Mostly hand regs and drops.

I spent $5k USD on garbage which I've ended up deleting. I suppose $5k USD was my learning curve; now (at least I hope) I've got quality Chinese pinyin VR/AR/MR domains in .com and .cn and .com.au

Well it's also the nature of future tech domaining and especially the virtual tech domaining field where it will take another 2 years or so for it to become clear which acronyms will win out.

I see and yes I agree 2 years to see which one will win out.

I didn't resent spending that amount on speculative investments (hand regging virtual tech names) as more expenses meant less tax I had to pay. Now I'm living in a different country/tax system where having such high expenses is harder so I need to cut back on domain investments.

In my country might even end up with a nice tax refund.

With so many domains, mostly in future tech? How many would you class as premium? ope you don't reg things like usedbrasmr or usedvehiclesmr :/

Depends what you mean as premium. I don't regret my investments, just come to the realization that I have too many to handle. Sometimes I'm seeing people post that they caught one of my names and I realize I'd forgotten I even owned it let alone that it was time to renew it.

My learning curve was buying trademarked domains I.e Vauxhalleco, audieco etc etc, spent around £2k on them..... next was buying 3 word.coms around another £2k, now my portfolio is about 60 domains mostly in future tech, im more of a speculator than a hardened domainer.

I'm 95% invested in VR/AR/MR and the Chinese pinyin translations in .cn with a few very long shot speculative domains which I intend to hold for several years. Anyway back to the topic I think VR will win out in the near term (I read a book [unsure if I should name it] which stated 2018 Xmas will be a VR Xmas) but after that it'll be AR and MR's time to shine.

Mr will for sure win in the longterm, imo of course.

And to prove his view on mixed reality is still prominent. One of his last comments was regarding a question he was asked about the XR term. Obviously he and Shel Isreal now reply under their company name "The Transformation Group":

Lol anyone who thinks that the tech term mixed reality covers all including vr ar and mr etc lives in dreamland and is delusional lol

Well that is what Microsoft are pushing it as mate ;)

I suppose Tom's hardware are pushing XR so they might have a chance of beating Microsoft lol.

I have some good XR names as well so I would love to be able to cash out of both.

But the Windows platform's just adopted mixed reality.

And that's a pretty big deal.

I own a few mixed reality domains too so i am pulling for mixed reality too it's just there is a difference between vr ar and mr and to say mixed reality covers all these three seperate techs has no idea how each one operates as they are all clearly different and not placed under the umbrella term mixed reality

@xr reality I wouldn't mind some XR domains too if I knew its exact translation to Chinese HAHAHA I'd reg all the killer categories.

EDIT: Whats confusing me is that @xr reality posted a screenshot saying Huawei will pursue 'XR' but Scoble is advising them to pursue 'MR'. I guess Huawei need to make a decision one way or the other.

I think there's no doubt that VR is a rock solid bet, but the real interest is in the 'mixed reality' area, which according to most forecasts will be substantially bigger than virtual reality in a few years, and for which it still isn't clear what the popular acronym or term will finally be adopted in popular usage for it.

I think there will have to be a catchall term for all these techs, especially as the headsets start to have the capability to do it all. Despite the first of these outsourced headsets (from Microsoft) running on 'Windows Mixed Reality', I can't see MR being the term that covers even VR. More likely VR would end up covering everything. Also, it's highly questionable whether Apple will eventually term their 'mixed reality' tech 'mixed reality' now that Microsoft has even named their operating system thus.

All i hope is what ever term wins we all have a piece of it and we all make a little I don't tell people what to buy ever i only ever advise on what i like it does me no good to have competition on terms but i feel if i win i want others to win too

ImmersiveBroadcasting / ImmersiveBroadcast(s)

Why Mixed Reality Is the Future of Immersive Broadcasting

Intel and Microsoft are among those building tools for a merged reality video experience that could be streamed directly to the home.

Mixed Reality merges real and virtual worlds to produce environments where physical and digital objects co-exist and respond to users in real-time. There are some who believe this could be the future of entertainment.

Distinct from the full immersion of virtual reality (VR) and from augmented reality (AR) which superimposes a graphical layer over the real world, Mixed Reality—or merged reality—overlays synthetic content on the real world that is anchored to, and, importantly, interacts with it in real-time.

The BBC’s Research and Development division is investigating Multiplayer Broadcasting [http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/projects/multiplayer-broadcasting] which blends live TV with the interactivity of online games by placing potentially hundreds of thousands of avatars alongside presenters in a shared virtual world. It sees this as “the next iteration of audience participation shows in a broadcast-VR enabled future.”
