Hi,

I've bought a 4L domain under the privacy protect, now I think it was not his and he insisted to pay as a gift 900 USD by PayPal. So I did yesterday,, because I don't like for sellers to pay 5% mostly and offer them gift payment.. Now as of today his account
@ZArunas is auto closed. :(
What can I do? I just made a dispute on PayPal for unauthorized transaction.
Thank you all in advance,

Robert

Why didn't you report him after his disappearance? I think such a deal should be closed in max. 24h. If the seller doesn't respond within 24h, send a message informing him that you are contacting the admins for possible fraud.
I gave him a day and contacted Eric - Eric is aware

I made Eric aware of the issue yesterday - he knows already

@namesilo how would be best way to handle this situation?
Sorry to hear bro, not likely i would send 900 to some unknown quantity violating paypal tos on a name under privacy
Need to find if he is the owner
@Eric Lyon this not good at all

As the registrar for the domain, we are always upset and concerned to hear about situations like this. There is a lot of good advice for best practices offered by NP members in this thread. If anybody reads this in the future, you can protect yourselves with domains registered with us by asking the Seller to list the domain in our Marketplace. We then guarantee immediate domain delivery to the Buyer. Unfortunately, in cases such as this one, and there is not much we can offer in the way of recourse. As much as we would like to, we cannot intervene in private-party sales in which we were not involved in the transaction(s). We are sorry again to hear that apparent scams such as this one persist, and we encourage all domain Buyers to follow the best practices listed in this thread and others, and to certainly proceed with caution when not using a third-party intermediary such as a trusted registrar marketplace or escrow company. We again feel very sorry for @decades80 to be the victim of this apparent scam and hope that a resolution is somehow found.

His buddy who was mentioned in the thread with the freebie sold me Repulsive.com and then sent Replusive.com instead. Then skipped town. I then put two and two together and quickly contacted the mods. Luckily I did not send friend and family so I can do a claim.

I think friends and family should be oopenly frowned upon. As a seller you pay the fee and realize it's the cost of doing business. Or you ask for fees to be included. It's not like the auction sites are going to waive their fees for people so they can make more money. There is always a cost to do business. Paying a few % for a safe transaction should not be frowned upon

hmmmm

correct me if i'm wrong, but looks like a "vrLL com and a cvcv com" were sold pretty cheap

so, getting a deal, may not always be a good deal

imo....
Don't need a lecture or ask for pity - just want the guy shut down

Not really, I am super on focus. The guy paid friends and family. Now he is not protected. Crummy people are all over. If your saying curing deception is the answer good luck. BC the bottom line here is the Gentleman paid using friends and family.

especially for those who may miss it, for the next time it comes around

if he paid by friends, family or by enemy, it wouldn't matter.

because if he actually owned the names and followed thru with the deal, would there be a discussion?

imo....

but they would have done so
with a normal transaction as well

Not true, if he would have paid as goods and services he would be covered under the buyer protection, The process is long, But with no hard evidence of him transferring the domain, he would have gotten the money back after the dispute.

There are some good people in this business that can be trusted. But you need to be careful who you pick and choose. Unfortunately there are some crooks in this business also. 1 reason I wouldn't of sent the money friends and family is he had only a 11 trader score and was a member for a few months. I don't think paypal will refund a friends and family payment to you. Maybe try a chargeback on your card. Good Luck man. I hope this guy does the right thing.

Wow, so this ZAnaus dude pretty much created his account and gained some reviews from dishing out some freebie domains all with the intention to pull a quick hit and run. He was able to get 2 members to pay him and almost got 3 members to pay him even...

I wouldn't be surprised if he tried the same move again with a new NP account.... assuming he doesn't already have another account set-up.

I guess awareness is the key here... at least after reading this thread people will have an idea of what his modus operandi is. So if they find themselves in a similar situation they will know it's a massive red flag.

Man, that sucks. :( Sorry that happened to you and I hope the scammer gets what he deserves. I've also lost hundreds to scammers in recent months, not on domains but on ebay transactions.

I'm trying to get away from using Paypal completely, sadly for some things there is no other option.

Hopefully you will get this resolved and get your money back.

Agreed.

It's like when people rent u-Haul vans and skip the insurance. Then when they run the truck into a pole and have to pay $1200 to fix it, that $8.50 insurance seems real attractive now - too late.

Always say no to friends and family pay (gift pay) when doing business transactions unless you really trust the person and you can hold them accountable. It's a hard experience for everyone scammed here, surely not a 'lesson' anyone wanted to learn.

Mods have a large task of keeping this forum a positive scammer free forum, and sometimes tricky scammers make it even harder.

For @ZArunas to run this con for such little return is odd, not time well spent. If he was actually domaining and not scamming he could have made just as much money.

Very sad situation for all involved.

Yes Biggie you are correct, but we didnt negotiate about the price, he sent his own price and concerning the fact that nowdays anybody seldom wants CVCV with q or w and the budget in Wanted sections for CVCV WITHOUT Q or W is 1000+, I was thinking such a name could be 1000 - 1500 on Namepros.

I wanted to give him a favour I actually pay 900+ Gift fees. For me paying 900 as gift was even more expensive than paying just 900 for goods. Altrusim maybe? Or because the next part of money should be sent out on Friday?

For the exact same reason I didn't buy buqe.com from him for $1400 because it had a Q....Even though if I had accepted the price, I would have went through escrow... unfortunately you and the other guys got scammed.. :(

I believe you guys who got scammed can report collectively to PayPal and send them the link to this thread... I believe you would have already done so... May be that will help in getting your money back....
