news Chili.com Sold for Six Figures

Spaceship Spaceship
Following yesterday's discovery of Aron Meystedt's sale of Tablets.com, we have uncovered another sale that occurred a couple of months ago.

The domain name in question is Chili.com, which was sold by an individual from Hong Kong. According to DomainIQ, the transaction took place late last year or early this year.

The buyers are Chili Cinema, an independent European company that provides legal video streaming of some of the latest movie releases. Shareholders in the company include Paramount, Viacom and Warner Bros, according to the company's Facebook page.

Chili Cinema has been operating on the domain name Chili.tv and while Chili.com redirects to their current site, it's possible that Chili.com will replace Chili.tv eventually. Incidentally, Chili.tv was acquired in 2014 for $2,588.

The domain name's seller told us that Chili.com was sold for a six figure fee, although he declined to give an exact figure. According to a screenshot from 2014, the minimum asking price was $220,000.

Now that it has sold, we will begin to call it a good name. This is a 5L that the so called professional domainers will have called crap with no value. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Even your valued premium name might not sell in the next 20 years. Domaining is the most unpredictable business have ever come across in my life. Only God knows what sells tomorrow!

Good sale.A pronounceable name should never be undervalued.I am sure most would be comfortable with 50k .A good name is an asset that most haven't gotten to figure out yet what it's worth.

Good find James.

I've never really followed the domainers group think with domains. It's all about finding the 'next' big thing and for me pronounceable 5l.com are it.

For example, the current trend is 4l.com and there are 26 choices for the first letter, 26 for the second, 26 for the 3rd and 26 for the 4th. So altogether, there are 26*26*26*26 = 456,976 combinations. Domainers at the moment are going crazy for 4l.com compared to anything else (besides numerics) mostly because of Chinese herd mentality...

Do you really think corporate end users care if a domain is 4l or 5l? No -they just care about getting 'their' company brand and they will pay dearly for it. For example, Gavus.com is a better fit for any end user compared to gvus.com because it's pronounceable and easy to remember.

Regarding pronounceable 5l.com domains (lvlvl.com) combinations there are only 21*5*21*5*21 (231,525 combinations). So there are actually less pronounceable 5l.com compared to 4l.com. But for some reason 5l.com are priced extremely low at the moment... but maybe not for long

Why do domainers not see this and why is there no 'expectations' of high prices for pronounceable 5l.com?

I think this will be the next gold rush after people stop buying into the 4l.com fad.

What do you guys think?

Wow nice sale

I'm hopeful for pronounceable .com's that are brandable - I'm holding Chillly.com.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

I do believe that is the summation of domain investing and why each of us buy the names we do!
