You don't even get views on your auction.

Two pages of someone arguing why the domain isn't "reg fee" then coming back saying "I just sold it for (some ridiculous amount), nana nana boo boo, you guys don't know nuthin."
Yep, there is a lotta talk. I did snag a name at the minimum $1 bid here once. It was the ugly baby of the auction - getting no bids at all a week after being posted. I flipped it within a week for something like $350 on one or two outbound emails (which was about all there was in end-users). Made me feel smart for a day. Not sure that's even possible now though, with all the buy-my-domain spammers and the number of domainers combing these auctions.
Hard to believe that a no-bid name here would sell for 4-figures, but I wouldn't be surprised if it has happened in the past.

I'd say if it has a dash in it, but there have been quite a few decent sales lately.

...you started domaining recently and thought "I can reg a .com for $10, but I can reg 10 .tech/.ninja/.website domains with better keywords for that amount, so I will have better odds selling one of those 10 names".

Guilty as charged. Luckily, the last ones of those regs are expiring in a week or two.

...you reg 100+ names on a $0.01 .xyz promo within an hour.

Also guilty here, although I did an "amazing" flip and sold the bunch for around $15 a day later when I came to my senses :)

You know a domain is worthless if....

...if it is not registered.*

Because
every registered domain has a (specific) reason why it was registered (otherwise it would not have been registered*) - in other words, at least the person which registered it, sees a worth in (had a reason to register) it - of course this worth has to be seen as an individual worth (because reasons are individual).

To bring it to the point:
A 'registered domain' can not be (complete) worthless - simply because 'it exists'.
So logically a 'non registered domain'* can not have a worth - simply because it is 'not existent'.

*except unintentionally registered and registry reserved, not yet definitely registered domains

If you know it dropped a few years ago and keep seeing the name spammed on namepros like it's an awesome name with HUGE potential.

if you don't even get spam after regging it.

You keep bumping your thread just to show your significant other, "See honey, I'm trying to sell. Just have patience, the right buyer will come along any minute now."
"Yes, I know, you've heard that before, but THIS one is THE one."
"All the others, well those are long term holds." (although you didn't think that when you reg'd them, they just end up that way.)

In other words, your "Quick flip" ends up as an "investment in the future".

Peace,
Cy
