Mission : 1 offer or inquiry per day

How many domains do you need for that ?

I'm not talking about portfolios with ultra premiums that very very few people have..... I'm talking about the typical domainer portfolio most of us have with a mix of crappy, half-decent and maybe a few decent domains....

So how many domains does one need to get 1 offer or inquiry per day on average ? Thousands !?! Please share your view.

It depends on quality, for example if you own just one LLL.com you'll get inquiries at least every week (of course, a lot of curious inquiries and automated spam from domainers).
You get the idea.

Many newcomers have the wrong approach (aka lottery mentality), they think that with a big portfolio they'll increase the likelihood of a sale. It's not completely wrong, but if the names are crap the sell rate won't rise. On the other hand the acquisition and renewal fees keep piling up.

Most domainers are losing money, even when they make sales. Because the sales do not offset the total investment.

That's a good point , Kate.

Are you saying that LLL.com's are getting regular end user inquiries ? Or mostly domain investor inquiries.

Maybe we should discount offers from other investors. These liquid domains like LLL.com and even LLLL.com can be liquidated quite easily anyway.

I am referring to end user sales here...which are more scarce.

I have about 1200 names. 1000 are probably hand regs 200 of higher quality. i get like 3 inquires or offers each week on the hand regs. maybe 1 or 2 low balls on my better stuff

A good sell through rate is 2.5% (with a good portfolio) and you wanted to get 1 offer/sale per day

To do that you would need 14,600 (good domains)

Really depends on quality. I have single domains that receive a few offers every single month and others that get 1-2 offers a year. Quality over quantity is a good business model as hundreds of domains with no offers doesn't pan out so well except for the registrars unless parking income exists.

True, but $50, $75 and $100 offers are a waste of time, usually don't amount to anything (just tire kickers)

Most good offers turn into sales, so the easiest way to estimate (good offers) is to calculate sales and work backwards.

Everything else being equal, the lower the quality the more domains you must have, to a degree.

Of course the lowest quality must still be a decent quality for this to work.

Buy/domains has many thousands of pretty low quality names, but still manages to sell quite a few every day.

This would not work for them if they did not have so many names.

I like the figure of 2.5 % sales per year. I believe this is what BrandBucket achieves with their 50k portfolio. It's probably a good order of magnitude for a medium quality portfolio.

Next point is: you have sizeable portfolio of perhaps 3000 domain name. What marketing efforts would you do ?
- a nice searchable website listing your domains (like BB)
- wait for inquiries
- something else
?

IMO Premium domains would fetch u enquiries once in a week, decent domains once in 4 months and mediocre domains once in 3 years.
Lets suppose u have all mediocre domains. Even then u wud need about 1100 domains to get an offer each day.
Here mediocre means desirable and not crappy.

This thread is about 1 offer per day. Lets stick to the thread and not talk about $xx or $xxx or $xxxx.
Also 14,600 good domains isn't the cup of tea for normal domainers.

Its really impossible to say, you can own 50,000,000 names but if they are all low quality names, you wont even get 1 offer a month

It really depends on the quality of the portfolio

i own approx. 1,400 names.

i get 1-3 inquiries/offers per day...some days none...some days 4-5 depends on day of week....so on average 30-90 per month. i get 1-4 sales per month on those offers/inquiries.

as you "advance" you buy less and less names on these forums.
