Well the .WS registry has been in the news this week for releasing all 5N to 20N combinations last night, and 2 and 3 character .ws will be available later in Feb with new pricing scheme.

.WS registry also has a presence on NP now:
https://www.namepros.com/threads/ws...-ws-domains-will-be-released-tomorrow.915224/

Obviously the China story may be creating a new market for short .WS domains. ALL of the NNNN.ws were bought out over three days this past December according to thedomains.com blog.

I registered some 5N.ws last night when they were released, anyone else stepping into .WS now?

Its easy to make a call like that in hindsight.

I am surprised that experienced domainers could fall for this. Either there's more to the story or this is a classic case of the greater fool theory.

OK I got this unhelpful reply about my domains that won't renew

unx:Hi there, I was going to sell these two WS names and was curious why they are showing as premium? I purchased them at regular price

NNNNN.ws and NNNNN.ws

Thanks

hexonet:The following domains are the premium domains.

Domain:NNNNN.ws
Domain:NNNNN.ws

You bought these domains with normal price but in past the registry declared these domains as "Premium" domains.

If registry declared the following domains as premium domains then we have to implement them.

NOTE: Existing .WS premium domains registered before December 22, 2015 will be extended to the premium price.

Please do not hesitate to contact us, if you should have further questions.

So if that is true at least I have good taste?! They didn't give me a premium price either, just an error

Anyone else have a WS change to premium? I am off to read WS fine print

I don't think pinyin domains are better than short and familiar english words.

They might be if .ws gets approval in China. Because the English words aren't worth their RegFee in .ws

Please note that Mr Hansen from .ws is a speaker on the China panel at NamesCon. There's a reason for this.

If you know the reason. Pray tell us. I'm just having fun with you.... he might be announcing he isn't going into China after all :)

That's exactly why we're only keeping one fangdichan.ws ( "real estate") if .ws hit as mentioned above a "default" for .cn then we own a great one that's very valuable. If not we didn't blow very much money. I also dont think the "English" words will be worth much either just as they are only now picking up steam un .cn. We'll see.

Not really, because... when was the last time we saw a discarded extension make a comeback ?

People are making too many assumptions about the Chinese market, while Chinese speculators are making of a lot dumb moves.

It was a crazy time, lots of things were happening that never happened before.

I've been watching this show on Netflix, The Killing, and look what web address they used for a fictional escort service in the show:

That said I'm still letting all my .ws drop. I bought a couple dozen good keywords last year, but I think they're all worthless.

Good catch, Nat. Me thinks you've got too much time on your hands to notice such things. I'm in the same boat as you with the .ws domains. There might be a couple I would keep. But renewals hurt a lot compared to new registrations. We might do it for a good TLD. But .WS is much maligned. WS=WebSite. This could have been a great TLD. It's a shame. With a different pricing strategy, say like .com, things might have been a lot different.

I am dropping all except a small handful. I had some nice 4L, 4N and 5N. Figured they could get to .cc or .co prices. Even .co is off. Maybe in time but not soon. And not at 20$ reg fee!

Funny how .ws could be regged at a third of today's price a year ago! I might have kept a few more at 10$ or lower renewal.

Found a place for $13 transfer and renewal, so picked two WS to keep so far - stupid and fail. Unlikely I will keep any more than those

There's a mini review of the registrar I found on stupid/ws, link at bottom. Only did them today so take that for what it's worth : smile :

With my iPhone, if I tip it horizontally, people's NP signatures show up below their posts.

Good catch. We're just keeping one killer exact word for "real estate" in pinyin name we mentioned above just in case they get china approval. Other than that dropping all.

Such a mismanaged extension is .ws! They don't have a clue. Could be doing so much better in the right hands.

Western Samoa, Samoa, Web Site, World Site, World Service. The tld that doesn't know what it wants to be.

This is likely how most new gltds (that can remain solvent) will end up.
Still in business, but you wouldn't know it.
