I can think of a few .tv players who, if they'd got together, could have paid that amount with what they've collectively paid on acquiring .tv names over the years.

Yes, but while they could have paid it - they don't have the branding or industry credibility of Verisign. While the brands certainly have done more to put their hand in the cookie jar, vs helping the extension, I still think it is a good thing to have a name brand at the controls.

BTW What is Richard Rosenblatt doing these days. That is a name I haven't Googled in a while.
