I would appreciate any feedback on the following:

I currently own a .com domain that could be used for an online casino. (I don't want to disclose the domain due to the potential ongoing negotiations of the sale).

I purchased the domain as an investment in 2015. I have now been contacted by the GoDaddy brokers team saying that they have a client that would like to purchase the domain from me. It looks like the .net domain name is being used by the client already and is a Chinese branded online casino.

The offer is $6000.

Obviously I would like to get as much as possible from the sale, but do not want to lose the potential interest by asking for too much.
That being said if a gaming company is after the domain for a new website, it should give me some room to ask for more right?

Does anyone have any experience in a situation like this (or similar), that could offer advice on the negotiation process?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Take my advice . Take the money and run if your profit is good on it. Especially if you need the money. Unless you are loaded. In that case you can afford to be greedy.

I had a $5000 offer on a domain recently. Got greedy and the offer disappeared literally.

The guy deleted his Gmail and now I cant contact him back to accept.
Played the whole "got a higher offer" routine. Asked for counter .

Live and learn!! Lol move on.

Ask yourself if you can accept it if this deal did not happen and have to wait for an undetermined amount of time with no guarantees?

6K is a nice offer, without knowing the domain I could not advise.

You know if the domain you own gets a lot of traffic ? How much did you pay for the domain ?

Thank you both for your feedback.

I am not desperate for the money right now, but would always wonder what it could have gone for if I don't at least try to counter offer.

The domain is dormant and has never been used. And cost to me has been very little < $100 for 6 domains i registered at the time.

I am assuming that the commission fee paid to GoDaddy by the client is quite high ($1500+?) as I am not having to pay anything my end out of the $6000?

I am wondering whether to go back with a $10,000 counter offer...

Why did you get offer of $6,000 ?

Is this the minimum offer ?

Honestly nobody is going to be able to give you a full answer without knowing the domain name (I realize that can be tough during negotiations). The question is really if you feel like profit is large enough for you to sell it. Is it a generic term that other buyers might want or is it somewhat specific and only the .net owner might have interest? Unfortunately if its the second, then I would go ahead and sell because you've found your (and maybe only) opportunity to sell.

In the end you're selling a gambling domain and the sale is a gamble in itself.. do you feel like gambling or are you going to take the money and run?

Go back with $20 000 counter offer.
If they can pay $6000, they can pay $20 000 too :D

doubleU - This is the offer which GoDaddy has informed me about. They have sent a link where I can either Accept Offer or Counter Offer.

adsorbable - I would really like to give the domain to give more clarity, but if in the unlikely event the client searched and found this thread it would weaken my position. The domain is generic enough that it could be used by someone else, but as there is someone already using the .net domain (I assume the client), it would make mine less attractive to a 3rd party

Hi

gambling names don't have the value they once did, at least in USA because of the ban

wondering if you are getting any direct traffic or any residual from the .net website

before the ban in usa, majority of gambling sites utilized .net extension over .com, even thought they may have owned both.

if online gambling came back to usa, then you might have a killer name, if it never comes back, then that offer may be a godsend.

Good Luck!

imo...

You can simply break up the domain name by using / or other special characters which would prevent search engines from picking it up

Adsorbable i sent you a message already with the details.

Biggie - It is a Chinese gaming company, so again the .net website they are using is technically illegal there. I do not know what sort of traffic they currently have.

If their initial offer was $6000USD I would ask $88,888 IF the domain is a two word keyword domain.
Is it a made up name?, is it a two word domain? is it a casino domain?
Share 1 of the keywords.

The domain in question is f*tc*tbet.com

Replace the *'s with a's.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying this is like an A++ domain name or anything.

And very clever with the $88,888 sale price. I am sure they would love that :P

For that domain I'd either counter low, like an even 10k, or just take the six.

There is no info in similarweb.com for this site/domain...

sedosedo1 - are you checking the .com or .net?

The .com I own is dormant and has never been used. The .net is owned by someone else, and I am assuming it is this client that is using GoDaddy as the broker to try to buy it.

The .net is only registered 2 weeks ago, your .com is less than 2 years old !

Sell at $6,000 or you might try few K more !

I have my doubts about this offer, sounds to bizarre for such a name.

Thank you for the feedback doubleU

If it is a new brand which they have set up, then I am inclined to agree with you that a small counter offer is probably best.

i will let you all know how it goes.

Agreed, a large counter-offer could make them re-brand and buy some other name (even $6000 would get you a good casino domain)

Geez counter with $10k for quick sale. If need be say you already turned down high $xxxx offers and their offer is below the highest you've ever gotten.

If they show signs of leaving the table come back with $8k or $9k and don't give them time to dilly dally. Tell them limited time offer $8k quick sale. After which prices goes back to $10k

Counter with $8,888, I think they would be crazy to walk away over 3 grand! Good Luck to you, please let us know how this turns out!

I like the domain a LOT and I see a lot of value.
If fansbet.com sold for 18K, easybet.com sold for 44k.. why would you counter with 10k?? LOL
Ask 88K and settle at 35k-45k...
It doesn't matter if the domain age is only 2 years!!
When the Godaddy broker asks you WHY 88k? just say that " easybet sold for 44K so you may be flexible but you believe your name is the same caliber or better!"
Keep in mind that CHINA is ALL ABOUT BETTING.
That would be my approach....

Check this out: FatCat.com

" Welcome to Fatcat.com.

FAQ

What is fatcat.com?
Fatcat.com is a private email address for my family and friends. We never had a reason to create a webpage, so we never put one up.

Is fatcat.com for sale?
So far, no. If someone wants to give me a seriously fat sack of cash, sure, I can be bought. I'm easy, I'm just not cheap.

How much are we talking here?
I had an offer in 2013 for $25k. The last offer in September 2014 was $37,000.

But $37,000 is a lot of money. What do you want?
Enough to pay for graduate school…about $80,000.

What about a lawsuit?
Had those threats, too. It'd be cheaper and less annoying to offer me money, though.

Why fatcat.com?
I had a fat cat. It was available. "

As a 2nd Counter after you ask for 88K:

You could tell the Godady broker that FatCat.com is available for 80K, or you could take 40k for your name if the buyer can close the deal quickly.

6k-10k Think about how long you will be holding the kitty litter if you lose the sale. Good Luck

A) dont get cute with 888888 conters

B) Dont send them to a better domain
