video FakeNews.com's Broker Gets TV Air Time

Spaceship Spaceship
"Fake news" is a term that has become extremely popular over the last few months, thanks in no small part to President Trump. Fake news has become a catch-all phrase for the President's distrust of many mainstream media outlets, and has been mentioned by the President in numerous tweets and live TV appearances.

President Trump has popularised the term "fake news"
As you might expect, the exact match domain name FakeNews.com is getting a lot of attention. When a phrase becomes this popular, the value of the exact match domain typically increases. This is exactly what has happened here with FakeNews.com.

After receiving many enquiries, the owner of the domain FakeNews.com, George Bacon, employed the services of a domain broker, Dan Sanchez (@DanSanchez) of NameAlpha, to help sell this domain that was acquired for $250 twelve years ago.

Yesterday, Dan was featured on ABC 10 in California, where he spoke about the domain name in a short interview with Robert Santos of 10News, which is included in full below.

Dan has revealed that there are "hundreds" of offers on the table for FakeNews.com. On a daily basis, between three and twenty requests via the FakeNews.com website.

Dan also revealed that just a couple of days ago an offer of $75,000 was received, with more than ten six-figure offers. With anywhere between four hundred and a thousand views per day, FakeNews.com is certainly attracting interest.

According to Dan, it's likely that the domain will sell within the next couple of months.

Here is ABC 10's report in full.

Thank you for the write up @James Iles !

On the video, Robert was great but some info wasn't 100% accurately portrayed. We have hundreds of offers on the table as of today. I get 3 to 20 requests through the contact form every single day. More than 10 are in the low-mid 6 figures.

Some folks have mentioned this is a "trend" domain, which I happily challenge. The term "fake news" defines a categorical world view that transcends into several generations, penetrates opposite sides of the political spectrum, and holds an organic place in the historic transfer of attention to alternative media.

FakeNews.com can be on one side or the other, comfortably monetized. What other name has gotten so many presidential endorsements by correlation?

Thanks Dan. I've updated the article.

Lol, @DanSanchez - Thanks for taking the time to reply on the thread. The problem now is that it's likely you will get a flood of PM's from people offering you their cr@ppy news domains... lol, probably stuff like fakesnews.com /fakingnews.com /fakenewz.com / etc.... :)

@James Iles. Of what use will the domain be used for? For carrying fake news? And of what benefits will fake news broadcasting be?

I guess it could also be a used as an news aggregator site... a site exposing fake news... kinda like a Snopes but for news... just my 2 cents though....

But right now you're probably at the peak for the term. I think eventually Trump will start saying it less/not at all because he's been dipping in that pool a little too much.

Is this true?

Just joking! But producing and distributing fake news for financial or political gain is now a huge industry.

That's what we thought at the end of December, it just couldn't get bigger from my perspective. It's beyond Trump, the term has two parallel narratives simultaneously trump is just one of those. We are looking to close at the end of February, so new ownership will have to be witness of the growth from that point on.

I bet before that we see a whole lot of stories around this name about low prices, dirty deals, debts, the name being secretly mortgaged or held by creditors or the Russian Mafia... all of them fake news put out by someone to drive the price down.

Trump seems to haved moved on to "very fake news". I see I missed getting that by about 3 months. :)

OK - I'll have a look to see if DonaldTrumpSaysThatItsFakeNews.com is available.

It'll probably get banned because it has got tits and arse (rumps) in it though. :)

I'd be cashing in and taking the best of the 'six figure' offers he has received... its a hyped-up term at the moment, so it could well lose a lot of its value quickly IMO.

Are we sure that this thread isn't about fake news? :}

Your seller should run with the best offer.

I see use for the domain in the future. How about a feed of less than honest stories or reports that are outright lies, complete with the outlets that decided to create bs news.
