How soon can I sell a domain name after registering it at 1and1?

Hello.

I registered a pretty good expired domain on 1and1.com. I want to put it for sale and the question is how soon can I sell it? I registered it last month at 1and1.com.
I searched on their website but 1and1 is difficult to navigate for me.

Thank you for the information.

You can try selling it now. If you find a buyer before 60 days from date of registration are up, you can ask the buyer to set up an account with 1&1 and push the domain to him. Keep in mind, however, that 1&1 will charge you their retail fee for 1 year renewal, same as for transfer-out! So best to finalize the transaction after 60 days are up, transferring the domain out to another registrar of buyer's choice.

Domains-Wanted,
Thank you for the explanation. So if I wait more then 60 days after the registration and I will transfer it out to another registrar the 1 year renewal fee will not be charged?

Unfortunately (to the best of my knowledge), 1 & 1 does not accept pushes

after 60 days, you can transfer a name to another registrar. New registrar will charge 1 year renewal for transfer, but 1 year is added to expiry. Some times buyer will ask for code to transfer out, in which case they pay the fee to the new registrar, gaining one year of registration

I was going to say. There's new noob born every minute. until I saw you've been a member here since 2012. What, on earth, prompted you to buy your domain at 1and1? It's true. You cannot push a domain at 1and1. The buyer has to pay for a transfer. And why would they ever want to do that, when they could at the same time transfer the domain to another registrar (after 60 days) and leave you with the headaches of canceling the hosting, or be put into the hands of debt collectors after 1 year because you haven't canceled the hosting.

Even if you transfer the domain out yourself after 60 days, you still will need to cancel the hosting. But it brings into question the wisdom of buying the domain at 1and1 and then having to transfer it out after only 60 days.

There is nothing good about 1and1 which could possibly justify the $1 purchase price. you will spend more time resolving all the problems. Time is money. If it's not? I've got some work for you :)

The person - you or the buyer - initiating the transfer-out, will be charged a fee by the gaining registrar.

They do, but they treat them same way as transfers between registrars and charge a 1 year renewal fee.

1and1 was a really bad move dude... I would say hands down the worst registrar ever..

I would not buy a domain that was at 1&1 - I'd only buy it after the seller had transfered it out.

Google stuff like "1&1 sucks" or "1&1 stole my domain" or "1&1 collection agency" to find out why.

Thank you for your valuable opinions guys.

I registered the domain name there because it was a 0.99 for the first year.

The big idea that made me use 1and1 is to register domain for 99 cents and turn around and sell it for $100. To me it is all about markup so when I buy domain for a $1 and sell for $100 I see a 9900% markup.
On the other hand, if I buy domain for $12 and sell it for $100 I realize markup of 733%
That was my motivation. I think the price charged by receiving registrar will be the responsibility of the new owner so I am hoping to only spend $0.99 on this deal.

P.S. I don't have a hosting with this domain. Just a domain name.

Thank you again for your opinions.

I would never use 1&1.

Rebel has a $2 domain special on now, for up to 10 domains I think.

YOU DEFINITELY HAVE HOSTING WITH THE DOMAIN. YOU JUST DON'T KNOW IT YET. BUT WAIT A YEAR AND YOU WILL FIND OUT WHEN THE DEBT COLLECTORS START KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR :( (I'm serious about this. It's part of their Modus Operandum)

@social_bookmarks As @stub said, if you bought 1 & 1 domain, there's a hosting attached to it without you knowing it. If I recall right, you can cancel it @ cancel.1and1.com. Pay attention when doing this, they make it tricky.

fatshosts.com has a promo going on for $1.25 .com domains. They are a bit of a hassle to get an account with but it is worth it. I've bought 170 or so names for around $200 over the last few months.
And yes 1and1 are horrible. I noobily hand reg'd frackingjobs.com there and lost it not being able to give them a different credit card for renewal, worst customer service on the planet.

You may have to call them in the UK to set up the account, can't be done online, I believe. Hard time getting them to call for me but I'm in US so that may have been the issue. Good registrar otherwise, I hear it is easy to transfer out when you need to also, which is essential to a good registrar.

If its difficult to get to register with them, then why are they in business.

I wondered the same. I'm sure they will make it easier soon, if not already.

Which registrars allow you to sell soon after registering a domain?

I have registered a few domains with Namecheap and have found them easy to deal with, but want to now register a few domains and sell as soon as possible.

The short answer is none. They all have a 60 day hold on them after being registered.
