domain Do Low Value but Quality Domains Still Sell?

Without a doubt the trend right now is extremely brandable names, that's the hot play right now. Catchy twist on words, the next "google" if you will. EMD's don't hold the same value that they used to, but how much has that hurt their demand?

10 years ago I could sell a two word domain worth $xxx within a few days. Now, I can't seem to move anything. Looking at the for offer section it doesn't seem like it's just me either. The vast majority of threads are going unanswered.

Presently I have tutorsme.com ($xx) and -.com ($xxx) on the market, but not catching any interest. These are not A+ domains by any stretch, but I strongly feel both would have flipped very quickly in the past.

What are your thoughts, can these type of generic keyword based domains still move in today's market?

Generic keyword domains (exact match domains) sell all the time. Recent examples are, SelfieStick. com $15,000, Comments. com $22,000. These are very recent sales, so YES, generic EMD's still sell.

Those are pretty high end. Notice any difference in the xxx area and below? Still the same demand there as well you think?

I think tutorsme.com is pretty low value. WorkoutReviews.com has some value, but it's not the kind of name that's going to fly off the shelf. If you are patient and wait a few years, you might be able to sell it for $2k or so. There are enough sites out there that offer workout reviews. I would do some outbound on them to see if you can move the needle.

The reason very few domains are worth anything to end users is development costs.

99.9% of web designers are clueless, they over build sites with worthless stuff like 10mb navigation sliders

Then when a page takes forever to open due to bad design for WPO (I bet 99% of you are saying WPO) they lose 99% of people that even bothered to click them.

They fact is most local companies today don't even need a website, the reason is simple

Search for any term, lawyer, chiropractor, etc.Over 70% of searches are now on smart phones.

What is first view? 1 or two page swipes of PPC ads, most now use CLICK TO CALL and that means no one ever sees a website.

then you see a map around 3rd swipe.

By the end of 3rd swipe or even 4th you start to see organic seo

So SEO is dead and EMD's were the heart and soul of SEO

today people search for something they see ppc ads and that drives response and almost none go to websites they click to call

same person then goes to googling something or is on a facebook or twitter app

so where is the traffic on websites?

IT IS GONE controlled by the big tech companies, the wild west days of the net ARE OVER

for traffic today you need a viral app, and 99% of apps get not many downloads like single digit range, so unless you have 5 million in marketing to buy CTD (click to download) user and then you lose most of those zombies google has blowing up your numbers, markets that don't speak English and download a pretty icon gif

there's no use for emd's today

yet developers are still building brands or trying to

500K to 2.5m typical development

a few bucks of that goes to the domain

then you need 5m to 25m to acquire a user base by paying google for downloads

oh the itunes app store, it is dead, over 70% of users are now android

even itunes music sales WAY DOWN, no one buys music now they STREAM IT, and if you're under 25 you stream for free on soundcloud and most of you never heard of soundcloud

google is the evil empire it completely took over the net

now it's apps you pay google to use and hope it goes viral in social media and even social media is now controlled

EMD's, yeah they're DEAD

It depends on the industry, but the overall is less than 60% from mobile.

EMD's not holding high value is actually a good thing for SEO and SEO is certainly not dead. In the past a company could buy an EMD, buy a bunch of low quality links and rank high for their term. That's not SEO, that's throwing money at a problem with great success. Today, you actually have to optimize, you actually need a high quality site, content and proven relevancy and authority in order to rank. That is the true heart and soul of SEO. Not being able to spam or buy your way to the top helps everyone. End users and website owners.

It's not gone, I've done SEO for blogs, hotels and local companies. Organic traffic is still a major factor and highly beneficial.

There are a lot of bad apps out there.

For branding and having an easy to remember domain, yes. For SEO, no. The latter though does worry me about the demand for EMD's.

It depends, but Android is definitely the better platform, it's no surprise that they're taking market share from Apple.

Agreed. I'm only looking for about $50 out of tutorsme.com and low to mid $xxx out of -.com I will definitely try your suggestion though, that's a good thought.

Also, to the mod that moved this, thank you. But, I'm not really looking for appraisals, I'm more interested in an assessment of the market. Looking at all of the threads, not just mine, I just don't see a lot of buying activity. On the surface it seems down from 10 years ago. Not sure this is the appropriate forum for that discussion.

My companies experience helping local companies see 50% to 75% response ratios from local PPC Budgets

You want to see results today, you do CTC

If they have a fast site like on my cloud network, I may send some desktop traffic ONLY to a site

If it's a mobile user looking for a local term

Geo whatever

We drive almost all mobile traffic now to CTC

A few exceptions are local florists with carts maybe

But even then CTC for many terms works better

People want INSTANT GRAT

CTC = instant grat

CTC is the king of instant hot leads

Just do a test of google ppc and you see most expensive terms bypass websites today and drive to a number that can be tracked

Websites are becoming obsolete
