I'm relatively new to domaining in general and was wondering what all do you guys look for when finding expired domains on FreshDrop and other platforms? What matters and what doesn't? What's worked the best for you? I'll be out of town tonight, but I'll be back tomorrow. Thanks in advance!

It depends on the purpose of your drop catching.

For traffic, domains with a good alexa rank and good amount of backlinks are worth going for.

Whereas if you want to dropcatch for reselling, shorter domains are usually considered better. You may even look for domains that have their other tlds registered.

It depends what you do with domains.
Many strategies...

My primary purpose will be to find good quality domains for reselling. Does focusing on short and/or keyword domains with good traffic sound like something that I could make work?

There will be a fair amount of competition for the obvious ones. Don't spend a lot until you've actually tried selling a handful of them and understand how difficult that end of the equation can be.

I know it sound easy when other people talk about it. But no matter what you do, there is no such thing as easy money. It takes a significant amount of time and money to make money.

Yes, it's easy and fun to buy domains but selling them is the tough part.
I guess a lot of people have to find that out the hard way (me included)

Get the appraisal of those names off of estibot
And then check what its appraisal is, how many endusers the names got, its CPC values

Sounds like a sensible and straight forward process. Thanks!

Getting this info from estibot is not free though, is it?

I don't have time right now, but someone will be along shortly to explain the many reasons why estibot is NOT a good indicator of a domains value.

Peace,

Estibot is probably best for knowing how much people who don't know that Estibot is worthless will be willing to pay for a domain.

If they start using that for their motto, I'm expecting royalties.

Nothing matters. Even if a domain is blacklisted that can be fixed but, it's a pain to have to do it. Domains are as good as their content once developed. That being said do what you think is right for you, no one can tell you secret info the trick was getting in early to begin with. The most important thing is do not register domains that make no sense at all and make sure you are getting the correct spelling on drops and not IDN's unless that is what you wanted.
