OK first I'm a .com is king kind of guy

Second, the O.co disaster proved anything but .com lost over 50% of public in trying to brand a tld outside of .com

Yet, after seeing a .dating name I thought, hmmm, that can't be bad for a dating site

So I start to check .dating keywords and stumble across .love

Got a killer LOVE word for .LOVE

So the usual production begins

Host site
Install wordpress
Install plugins
Get all the social media accounts ready
Do some custom work on what needs to happen

Bingo site is ready to launch after we do what we would charge 50K to 200K for

Try to get a cloud app for less

So I test the url to a person I know to test

GUESS WHAT android doesn't consider it a tld

LOVE

So zero chance it can go viral now, since anyone that sends the url to a friend via text which is huge in doing viral net promotion, well the links to the sites won't work

So if you are still drinking the .tld cool aid think about that now

You put 5 Million into TV or Radio and everyone goes to the .com
You can't get one person from a text link since the tld is not recognized by google for android

That's why .com is KING

I can't believe I wasted some time with a .love TLD

Anyone else notice their great keywords.tld are not clickable in a text?

haha

Just more reason to sing .COM IS KING

Some of the dead tld's so far I found

.mom
.estate
.dating
.love

CC tld's are of course clickable

.co is clickable
old tld's are too
.biz
.mobi

.pro is clickable that's a good sign

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Surely android is an operating system, so it shouldn't bother.

get.love works on my phone, but true.love doesn't. I suspect the problem is that you have to get listed in Google etc. to use direct navigation.

have you tried sticking http:// in front of the name?

a browser will recognize it but android SMS doesn't think most of the new tld's are websites

so it's how long now and google is still refusing to consider these are domain names

part of growth hacking is a viral explosion and people texting each other a new site is part of growth hacking

so most of the new tld's are useless for cheap viral growth hacking

just like they're useless for major media as O.co proved they barely had any one go to the site, the user is .com centered

so major media .com only

now text promos make most new tld's useless

they're not listed as websites with google for SMS

I dont know about calling all ntlds bad, because my website which is .christmas works just fine on my android text message. I didnt have to add www. or http:// just keyword.christmas.

You mean dead in Android only. Have you checked Top TLD Domainers Favorite .SHOP
AnyName.SHOP even in Computer Browser.
They redirect you AnyNameShop.com :banghead:

I just tested www.merry.christmas on my android, no link is clickable

What version of Android OS are you using, it may be a bug in older phones and not new ones, so that's good if it is

I was starting to like the .love tld

haha

android is the sms market it has more market share than iOS or apple
for under 25 years olds it's 90% of the market just like soundcloud is the main site for music with younger consumers
if you want to go viral with a dating site in a new .tld you are missing most of the potential users under 25 on androids

I just tried merry.christmas with no http or www. and it worked perfected. android software.

just texted a .shop keyword it is a dead link too
so let's just say android doesn't view the new tld's as websites
I wonder if they think .xyz is a legit tld, after all it's now their corporate url
haha
WOW .xyz is a dead tld on my android, so I guess google doesn't care that much about .xyz

It's an old bug, my newer android phones work fine, so only an old phone will be having issues, that's good to know

So I don't get it: are new TLDs still useless or already not?

This 'bug' I noticed today is not a bug to most on android, that phone was old

So for viral growth where text links is a huge part of growth hacking it's not a major negative that some old phones may not recognize new tld's

All the browsers do and new phones SMS do, so only the usual negative applies

You can't do major media unless it's a .com because everyone types in the .com usually

A lot of the old rules don't seem to apply any more. Direct navigation seems to have declined big time, and most people seem to enter urls into the searc box. This means that Google controls the traffic, and someties a new web site won't appear on the first page of the search results, and it should have loaded the page rather than the SERP anyway.

It's not a flaw. SMS = short text message, hence only text with no markup/links.

the flaw is real, old android phones do not recognize any of the new tlds for text links with http https www or anything

but those phones are only older phones so new android phones recognize the new tld's

.com is king not because of what technology thinks, it is because of the branding power and authority that it has.

As I said before, nothing beats a .com for strong presence and ideal perception of a serious, true business and brand.

Not knocking cctlds either, they serve the same purpose in their own areas, which big brands use to give custom experience to local users across the world.

But the new gtlds...pointless really unless your running a joke site or selling pots out of your garden shed.

most people seeing merry.christmas will think its missing an extension, its a mistake and type merry.christmas.com

.com is king .

for one reason, the public is .com centered, you try to use TV or Radio or whatever for marketing and if you don't have .com they use it anyway

so any old school media by any tld other than .com benefits the king

I would say 80% of my clients when I say go to this url, open up google and search for the url, they are completely ignorant of the url box on their browsers

so we have a lot of morons on 'smart phones' and if its not an app they got a kid to load on their phone they're clueless at moving around the net

now younger people are way more literate about how to move around the net, but over 40, the world is full of tech dummies using idiot phones

I'm not sure the youth are any better. There are many for whom the Internet is nothing more than a walled garden comprising Google, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.
At least their elders have remote memories of a different past.
Guess which extension the walled garden companies use ?
